Banchero: “Yall think i’m a center?”

I agree with your last sentence, but there will always be clueless fans that base everything on championships because they don't know what they're talking about.
Yup, the best team rarely wins the tournament and you have to factor other things in such as conference standings, conference tournaments, and quality wins.

Oh I see, this is why Shiteshefski backed off Chandler, he was really eyeing his Pt guard target in Paolo.
Now it makes sense.
Who knew, Shiteshefski is the only coach in America who knew Paolo is a pt guard.
Eat a bag of Di**s Shiteshefski, eat a bag of di**s.

I guess K’s way of parroting off of Cal pushing positionless basketball is to just tell everyone they’re gonna be a point forward. There’s no way we would have beat them for Wenyen if he had caught on to this sooner

He’s the perfect 4. Could easily play 4 or 5 in college. The 3 would be stretch but I’m sure he was told he can player all 5 positions

I can kind of see that but I also don’t think it’s “BS”. What Banchero wanted is have the freedom to roam around the court and not be locked into one position and I don’t really see a problem with Duke using that in their pitch.
My thing is where did it become this notion that UK continues to just park bigs in the paint and sit for 40 mins. Nick Richards took MANY mid range 2’s and showed plenty high post and gave up. He would’ve been given more freedom if he could do more. REID TRAVIS was allowed to take 3’s half the season, PJ WASHINGTON was on the perimeter plenty. That’s what bothers me lowkey. A big should ALWAYS work from inside/out and Cal allows you to do that IF YOU CAN.

I don’t really agree with that overall As well. When I watch UK I see people like PJ out on the perimeter. I think it’s more that the freedom of movement was as the key selling point for Duke and I don’t think Cal used that point as much in his pitch.

What are the cons of that lineup other than maybe Baldwin’s defense?

A 6’8 Griffin trying to guard a 6’2 ACC level guard.

Good thing K prepares kids for the NBA by using Boeheim’s 2/3 zone to cover up for this deficiency. Worked perfectly in ‘18 and ‘19.

And another thing, I think a lot of us wrote off the center position a bit prematurely in the NBA. And either we were wrong, or its making a come back, because you have a lot kf big bodies in the playoffs banging down low.

The NBA, i imagine, will make some changes to slow the onslaught of 3s.

But as you said, whats with this narrative that Cal cant handle bigs. Cal had one misstep with Skal, who in fairness was raw and not exactly mentally tough.. in the meantime, we're watching the emergence of Bam. Hows Okafor doing? Bagley? Jefferson?

We dont just have NBA bigs.. weve had some of the best bigs in the last decade. AD, Cousins, KAT.. then you got Randle, Bam, WCS..

This was more than just coach K lying. Again, we wont find out for a while.. but we will.

Yep. He's quit coaching kids, he just wants 1 more ring. He's in a no-lose situation, for himself, by telling them whatever they want to hear and letting them do whatever they want to do. He's a massive POS.

Sad thing is, a lot of fans wished Cal would take the same attitude Instead of putting player’s interest ahead of his personal success.

I’m sorry to break it to you but being taller than someone doesn’t mean you can’t guard them. He is just as athletic as most of those 6’2 guards and is regarded as one of the best perimeter defenders in the class.

Absolutely. I said that as well about an hour ago. Those are the types of losers that get the misery they deserve since they only care about beating their chest after a title and couldn't care less about the kids. Many have even admitted it. Have a good one! Jeff has me so scared of his imposing presence that I must leave for the weekend...........[roll].................heading out for beer and fish tacos. I'm in SOCA this weekend. The Cali Creamin beer is GOOD stuff. See ya man.

We shall see.

Barrett, Reddish, and Williamson were All-World at everything and could all play every position.

How did that go?

Best team ever assembled, GOAT coach, and no Final Four, right?

So Banchero Twitter profile pic has the Nolan kid in it that just committed to us.

Any chance Cal is trying to play hard ball and get Banchero to UK...or vice versa- K tries to take Nolan?

Actually I could argue that a team with John wall, demarcus cousins, and Eric Bledsoe might have been a more talented team. No final four either for that team. You can’t judge teams seasons solely on whether they made the final four or not.

The hype around Zions team was far greater than Bagley’s without a doubt. It’s also unfair to judge teams in college basketball solely on rather they win the championship due to the nature of March madness.
Wtf. Cal is judged daily here for that.

Wall and Cousins were hyped, but nothing like Williamson, Barrett, and Reddish.

And Bledsoe wasn’t even considered OAD out of HS.

Try again.

Both teams had great seasons up until their elite eight losses. They both had good seasons regardless If they made the final 4 or not.

Allegedly, that is what the Duke staff sold him on, and that is the reason he committed. He would work from the high post in college and fluctuate into the low post; but, Duke looking to make him more of a wing who handles the ball was the selling point.
Heh. They told Wendell Carter that too, then he got pissed when they signed Bagley and stuck Carter down low all season.

I disagree, Zion playing the 4 was the best position he could of played In college and both the Bagley team and Zion team were great teams that lost deep into a tournament where the best team usually doesn’t win it. I can kind of agree on I think it would of been better to not reclass Bagley as him and Wendell playing together wasn’t the greatest fit.

Are you a Puke fan? Seems like it reading you’re post. It’s ok just admit it. I promise you’ll feel better.

Great post! Also allows them to bring ball up off the glass or lead breaks if they are capable. This fallacy is all linked to Skal and Skal was a great jump shooter who hit a lot of them at UK, he just should've been facing up more but Cal was developing him like the guys before him and didn't want him one dimensional. He took the hit for Skal's limitations as well which is what coaches do, but it's like that 1 kid has "haunted" UK with recruits? I'd get it if the UK guys were busting because they weren't prepared for NBA but when Nick Richards makes it and I don't care where he's selected, he's going to make a team and stay in league a long time due to his size/mobility/athleticism and skill-he can shoot the ball as well as be a defensive player. I'd argue he has a chance to be a better version of WCS due to having more offensive skill---when will people wake up and see reality?

Hell Isaac Humphries was splashing jumpers at UK too and allowed to take them because he could make them. You get leeway to do what you want if you prove you can do so without being a liability.
