I don't get inside info much, but have a close friend involved with the Texas basketball program. I've never asked him about much in regards to their recruiting, but we got on that topic today talking about his schedule... A few things I took away from the conversation:
1. They believe that right now they lead for Bamba.
2. He said that they feel they have the leg up with Mo because Shaka coached him at U-18 to a gold medal and Mo values his relationship with the coach more than anything.
3. Incoming freshman, Matt Coleman, has a great relationship with Mo as well and they are good friends.
4. He said they ultimately they believe he will commit to Texas after all the hype of being around UK and Duke recruits at these all star events settles down. He said that Bamba is a different type of guy and they think he wants to create his own path.
5. I will add that he said they feel UK is their biggest competition and that's because of how well Cal has developed bigs since he has been at UK. He said they believe it's a 2 team battle between Texas and UK. Don't discount Michigan's chances either...
I personally still think we have a great shot at Bamba and it's going to be a war to the end... I think you could play devil's advocate on a lot of the info he said, I.E. Matt Coleman being close to Bamba. Quade Green is even closer to Bamba than Coleman. I wouldn't overreact, but Texas feels very good with their position. Just passing along some info.. Long way to go still. I still predict he will be a Cat. Hopefully I get some more scoop closer to his decision.
