Baker commits to UK!!!

Coach Cal could have a three guard offense next season. Baker will get 20/25 min per game.
All we need is Bam back and/or Bamba. If one or both sign or resign we will be top five easy.
Baker will not see 20/25 min in one single game next year. Diallo is a freak and potential number one pick, he'll be our sg and do it well.

Jay, you must be kidding. Cal does not recruit players to be here 3 years.

Let's put some money down on it then....I don't believe there is any chance UK/Cal will still take Smith. Not happening.
I don't know what world you live in....but cal doesn't offer scholarships and pull them in the same week. You are 100% wrong. Sorry

I like Baker a lot. But let's not confuse the situation. UNC started 5 McDonald's All-Americans. They didn't develop guys like Baker - they got some of the very best, and got them to stay more than 2 years.
Kennedy Meeks was a 4 star player

Kid is a Top 75 recruit. This is the kind of multi-year player that most teams out there are going after to build a contender around.

Teams like Villanova, Louisville, Virginia, Kansas have thrived with rosters built out of similar recruits. I can see Baker playing spot minutes next year when we need a zone buster and having a growing role throughout his career as he gains experience and strength. I love our adding guys like this - just hope we can get him to stick around.

Best take right here. He will fill a need have a few games he barely contributes and a few games he hits multiple 3s. Whoever said above his handle looked weak didn't see him playing pg vs duvals AAU team and win. He handles as good as say doron lamb who backed up knight some at pg

I think Diallo is going to be great, but I have not seen him in the top 10 on any draft sites. A big reason why a lot of people don't think UK has any 1 and dones next year, although I am sure we lose a couple.

I hope we get Bamba also. With Baker on board I wonder if this will affect Johnson ?
Doubtful. The only concern Johnson should have is will he be in the rotation when it is reduced.

Diallo will be playing SF and if everyone else is right, Vanderbilt will too. Does Johnson want to transfer in and play backup minutes at the 2 spots where the OAD players are.

Can I be the voice of reason here? He's not going to play much other than being a practice player next year. Mulder was better and didn't play much. Does he fill a need? Yes. Is he good enough the next couple of year? Probably not good enough to get on the floor. Probably more like a Hawkins guy with better offense but worse defense. Just my opinion guys.

Missouri gets a 3/4 star guard and people talk about what an impact he is going to make there with Porter. UK gets a much higher ranked 4 star and people say he cannot make an impact until he's a junior or senior. We have had plenty of four star guys make an impact here. Only difference was many of them committed a little earlier so they were bumped to five stars. Eric Bledsoe, Doron Lamb, WCS, Devon Booker, Tyler Ulis were all 4 star guys when or just before committing to UK.

I agree that Baker has the potential to contribute sooner rather than later and especially since we have the need and playing time available in the backcourt next year. Other guys need rest and foul problems arise so Baker may be called into duty much more than some are thinking on here right now. Nope, don't think he'll be a super star next year but I think he can be a very serviceable player off the bench and donate a few 3's here and there to keep the defense honest. Very happy we got him today. Add Johnson and Bamba and we can all get very excited.

LOL...he's still committed to Cal, just a different one now.
When Jaylen Brown committed a couple years ago my update said he committed to Cal and I didn't have a chance at that point to read further. Because Cal came out of no where it never crossed my mind if was California and not Calipari. Was so disappointed in the end.

Baker is the piece that kind of completes the roster. Part of me wants Bam to come back now instead of getting Bamba (I know we can have both).

We have our scoring guards in Green and Diallo. We have a shooter in Baker with Johnson probably coming on board too. Wenyen and SKJ are experienced/talented returning 5 star players. Richards, Washington, and Vanderbilt are plenty of length and skill in the post. I feel like Bam as a sophomore can be that unstoppable presence that can be a go to guy when we need a big rebound or bucket.

Oh now I see where they think ur a troll ur just being facetious and acting like Baker is going to start at 2 and not Diallo. So then people attack you for the error. Clever

Cause Alexander will back up Green. Johnson will back both Diallo and Vanderbilt up or vice versa between him and Vanderbilt at the three. Baker will figure in when his shooting is needed or bad foul trouble. So plenty of min for Johnson and almost impossible for him not to be in the rotation

I agree with the Doron Lamb comparison. Maybe not as quick but everything else I've seen of him reminds me of Lamb. I watched a few of Lambs high school vids and the similarities are striking. I hope he gets the chance to show what he can do and not get buried on the bench.

Not hardly...

But somebody has to play behind Quade Green and Diallo in the backcourt...those two probably average 30mpg a piece at best. You still need 1 player and probably 2 that can back these guys up.

- Shai Alexander is probably our back up PG...and I hope he can handle it but not 100% sure.
- We have no person to back up Diallo at SG.
- Finally...Cal likes to play 3 guard lineup for stretches of games at times as the matchups suffice. He probably won't do that as much next year but there may be times he'd like Diallo to be at SF and have Green/Baker/Alexander at the PG and SG spots and go smaller with Diallo at SF.

So there is plenty of time for Baker to play 10-15 mpg next year IMO. If the kid is a great zone buster...he'll probably play more minutes as teams are going to want to pack it in vs. UK next year.

Hopefully he'll stick around to start as a junior unlike Poole, Matthews, etc so people will stop forgetting the Cal actually does recruit four stars to balance classes (sadly only the Kentucky kids have stuck around thus far).

This kid will see the court a lot and he may even be gone by his junior year. I think he is under rated and will contribute next year for sure.

Glad to get a shooter in this class. Can never have too many. However, as we all know if he can't play defense he won't get on the floor. He'll have a chance to make his way into the lineup while going up against some tough competition in practice. I'm thinking he may be here 3 years?

Incredible level of expertise about a kid none of you had heard of a month ago.

Just a whole lot of things that seem mutually exclusive. How can he:

Be the best shooter in the nation, have a good enough handle to run the point and beat Duval, be crafty like Doron Lamb, only contribute as a junior and senior, be a top 75 recruit, be a four year player, scare off Johnson, be a difference maker for next season, and not play 20 minutes in any game next year?

Anyway, watching the film, that shot is beautiful (can't believe no one is freaking out over his percentages), physical gifts are average, we'll have to wait and see.

All we need next year is to catch and shoot and not be a disaster on defense. Great piece to have going forward. Seems limited enough physically to not be a major draft prospect.

Apparently not. It is totally UNREASONABLE to think Cal recruited this kid to not play. With just 3 other guards on the roster he'll get plenty of PT. If he shoots it well he will play a lot.

I think how much he plays will depend on the game. I could see times Cal playing him and Diallo at the same time. Kid will play how much depends on his D and hustle.

Coach Cal could have a '''three '''guard offense next season........................only if you call Vando a guard........ Baker will get 20/25 min per game.

Sound better?

His release point is excellent and I can honestly say that's all I've seen from this kid. So for that I offer no other insight to what he'll be for us, but as a shooter his release point is perfect for a guard his size.

I don't fully disagree with you. I'll just be suprised if it's next year. My complete guess is Cal will go 6-7 guys next year if he can.

Of course he does. It's up to them to get on the court but no way any coach in the country plans on recruiting 13 scholarship players to play consistently. I'm guessing he runs three guards this year and the rest front court. I could be wrong but that's my guess.

He very well could see 20 mins in a game next year. Depending on what happens with Knox and Johnson. If we miss on them and Diallo plays some at the 3 spot, Baker very well could easily see 20 mins. I don't think he'll average that much but that's not what you said. If he's as good a shooter as expected, he could see alot of time. He may just jump in front of Alexander.
