The college basketball landscape was thrown into a loop last week with the possibility of Marvin Bagley’s reclassification into the 2017 class. The best high school prospect that the game has seen in recent years, Bagley is the type of program-changing ballplayer that can get any type of contending team over the hump and immediately make them a national championship favorite. The five-star is super skilled, talented and productive power forward who can lead the break, score from each level on the floor and is an elite rebounder in traffic.

USC, Kentucky and Duke are the likeliest of landing spots for him. This past weekend, Bagley visited Duke for an official visit, and the Blue Devils sit in the lead for him.

USC should not be slighted, however, as the Trojans have gained ample ground in their pursuit to the point that they are nipping at the heels of the Blue Devils. Bagley could take an official visit to USC in the coming weeks.

Kentucky solidified, once again, the top-ranked class in 2017. They would absolutely love to add someone of Bagley’s caliber to a roster full of premium athlete and versatile wings. However, USC and Duke are the favorites, and the likelihood of the five-star reclassifying into 2017 next month and attending college in the fall gets better by the day.

If that happens, Duke would immediately become the national championship favorite. The same could be said for Kentucky if the Wildcats land the talented prospect. If Bagley chooses USC, the Trojans should be seen as another threat to cut down the nets; pairing Bagley with Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu would be give the Trojans the best frontcourt in America.

Article says he visited Duke officially. Thought someone mentioned in the other thread that he can't visit officially until certain academics are set.

That shows you what some people know. With his dad being from Durham & grandmother still living there Duke will be tough to beat.

He didn't commit to duke on his visit, i think wendall carter will knock them out of this race. He may land at usc, but andy enfeild can not put him in position in the nba draft like cal could and cal has the big men in the league to back him up..

Doesn't matter if he goes to USC or UK, it will not affect his draft stock. He will more than likely be the # 1 pick, no lower than top 3, even if he goes to a Juco.

And from @Dablueman , the Dad only went to Duke first because of proximity. He had a pretty good write up in the other thread, if any hasn't read it.

Makes me think they're still making their rounds for visits.

Never count out Cal. It seems if duke were a lock and his academics were in order, this would be over by now. Who knows Of course, anything can happen, but this kid wants to play at the 4, Carter is the 4 at duke. Nobody has it locked up at UK. Have no idea about USC.

Obviously, you take Bagley if he wants to commit (no brainer), but we'd definitely have some PT issues with all the talent in the front court. It'd be interesting to see how things shake out if he does commit!

If Bagley reclassifies, wherever he goes, he will play wherever the coach tells him to.

The difference between Cal and K is that K will play him wherever it benefits the team (and therefore, benefits the legend that is Coach K). Cal will play him in a way that will prepare him for the next level.

Buzz now is reclassification is a long shot. If so, Duke took a big risk doing an end-around and bringing him in this early. Means Kansas or Kentucky will get last visit.

After landing Knox I'll never count Cal out of a recruiting battle. But the dude just took an official to Duke and lined up two more official visits, one to USC and the other to Zona. Doesn't sound like we're on his mind much

Just really curious to see how a kid with academic eligibility questions is suddenly going to reclassify.

We'll see. I'm sure every kid would love to do it and go get paid a year early, but there's going to be lots of hoops to jump through.

Maybe that's why Duke is involved, could be on that Tre Duval study program where it doesn't matter how many schools you went to or if they were even real schools.

Might also be worth keeping an eye on him "graduating," not being eligible to play college hoops, and just practicing with a team for a year before entering the draft.

In all fairness, if you are a high profile recruit and UK isn't at least one of your top schools, you aren't very smart. If he's a me first type player, by all means go to USC. If he wants to be underdeveloped as a freshman, by all means go to Duke. If he wants to prepare for the next level, and get prime time exposure, there is only one true option.

"Oops I just missed the enrollment deadline but it looks like I will have my diploma before the start of the NBA season. I will be in the 2018 draft."

That's my best guess at where this is heading.

Would be quite astounding that a kid could go to 3 different high schools in 3 years yet bounce early to dook or for that matter here too.

Not disagreeing with you at all. The thing to consider in all of it is, some kids (let's be real they still are as freshmen) just can't handle all that Kentucky will demand. We are the most demanding fan base/program out there.........and that is undisputed. It's also why we are the BEST.

The lights shine brighter in Lexington.

Love to have this guy. We're winning it all if he should come here. If he goes to Duke.... I don't even want to think about it. Go get him Cal!

He ain't going somewhere that wants him to play the 5. You can book that. Kid is an NBA 4.

I'm sorry, but this is a bunch of bs. If he decides to go to USC it doesn't mean that he's a me first player. They have a very talented roster where he will be sharing minutes.

When K has a player as talented as Bagley is purported to be, then he uses him to great effect. And we all know the advantages that UK and Calipari bring. But let's stop with the talk that he's somehow making a mistake if he doesn't choose UK. A kid this good is not making a mistake by choosing any of those 3 talented teams.

Except Briscoe was not ever able to handle running the point. He was given the opportunity to back up Ulis as a Freshman and it just didn't work out. Briscoe was a 2 without a jump shot, in the body of a 1. There wasn't much that could be done for him, IMHO. I guess Cal could have benched him instead of finding him a role. Briscoe couldn't shoot, so Cal turned him into a defensive stopper. That benefitted Briscoe more than it would him trying to run the PG and failing miserably.
