Bad News on Monk

Maybe that explains why he hasn't really been the player we all kind of thought he would. I hope he can get himself straight. Too much talent and potential, but drugs have ruined countless lives no matter their ability.
I sure hope there is a good end to this story.

True . Inhaling smoke of any kind into your lungs is perfectly healthy. Fact. PS you might want to stay in your lane
Yeah, marijuana definitely isn't used to help with cancer, alzheimer's, Parkinson's, depression, etc. How many cases of cancer have you seen caused by marijuana use? Stay in my lane? Adorable.

So you think employers just have anti-drug policies in place for shits and giggles? Of course marijuana has adverse effects on you. I've worked with people who were clearly under the influence of pot. That can get people killed around machinery.
I would ten fold rather work with someone smoking weed than drinking alcohol. But alcohol isn't illegal, is it?

Do I use marijuana? No, I've tried it. Wasn't my thing.

Do I think marijuana should be legal and is much less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes? Yes

Can you be psychologically dependent on it? Yes. You can become psychologically dependent on damn near anything. To suggest otherwise is a bit silly.

But, on the original topic, this does sound much worse than a little weed for Monk. I hope the NBA provides him with some resources and he takes this instance seriously and makes the change that he needs to in order to continue his career and overall well-being.

We are assuming it was weed

weed is smoked by like 90 percent of the league. There’s no denying that.

if it was more than weed id be a little concern but if it’s just marijuana who gives a damn seriously. If anything monk was dumb and didn’t get clean on time. Most of the nfl smokes weed. It’s weed not an addition to fentanyl

I wonder, how many of you have ever watched a 6'1" 190 pound, physically strong pipefitter, waste away to 135 pounds and pissing brown sludge, while dying from cirrhosis of the liver? I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

I would rather my older brother still be here alive puffing on a joint and stupid, than sucking down a six pack a day and a case on the weekend until his death 8 years ago. Btw...the strongest strength liquid oxycodone they make was a blessing to him...until he couldn't swallow anymore.

A man high on booze wants to start a fight. A man high on pot wants to start a band. '

I lived with three of the biggest potheads on campus one year at UK. The Chinese said it best...moderation in all things. If you're just using it to take the edge off no big deal. If you're using it every day and not having it around affects your mood, you have a problem.

It is to keep insurance rates down. INSURANCE is king of this country.

Funny, I know plenty of professional athletes who smoke weed daily and still perform at the top level. I don't smoke, but I've seen it positively affect far more people than the opposite.
It's no different than any other legal drug in use. If used properly (medical marijuana/alcohol/opioids) can all be beneficial. If used improperly or abused, they can do physical and/psychological damage. Weed is not as nearly as harmless as many portray it nor as dangerous as many paint it. It all depends on how and why it is used. Same as alcohol....two beers a day, no problem.....12 beers a day.....you got issues.

Sorry for whoever disagrees but if you think pot is bad than you either have never smoked, smoked and personally found that you didn’t like the effects or believe propaganda. I smoked an ounce a week for 12 years and quit without picking it up the past 8 years. It’s not even remotely close to anything else that you can be dependent on.

Just quoting the medical community who have to deal with all the problems and it isn't just children, family pets are being poisoned as well. (Just one quick reference I found below. There are many more.)

"Young children have been poisoned by swallowing medical marijuana. Some have needed treatment in an intensive care unit."

https://www.poison.org/articles/2013-dec/medical-marijuana
Poison can KILL you. There has NEVER been a documented death from an OD of pot.

so answer this if monk had FAS how was he 6’3” and 190 pounds and coordinated enough to play basketball and dunk the ball multiple times a game in high school?
Plus, M2W, "coordinated enough" is a gross understatement. God took all the athletic traits most beneficial to a basketball 2G and gifted them squarely to Monk. I've never seen a more athletically gifted 2G playing at UK.

Reading this thread, good Lord. You don’t get suspended for weed. You get suspended for blow, PEDS, or messing with the test. Usually with PEDS they don’t give you an “indefinite” suspension on first pop.

100%. If they suspended players indefinitely for smoking pot they’d have to shut down the league.

What makes you say that? I read the article but it didn’t allude to what type of drug it was or wasn’t.
They don't suspend you indefinitely for weed. You'd have to fail like 100 drug tests for weed before the NBA would even suspend you a few games.

Honestly the guy probably had a little too much fun over the allstar break. I highly doubt hes this coke head like some of you are implying.

Agree with these. Definitely some hard recreational drug. Also don't think it's an actual addiction issue. But it was concerning enough to get a suspension. So they must want to see him in at least some short term rehab. Otherwise it wouldn't be indefinite

Ah yes you can judge a persons drug of choice by watching them play basketball on the TV. You should start a business. Its not weed

You could start your own business. Talking out of both sides of your ass. You’re doing the same thing. Love your tone by the way snowflake. Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings

I love when the guy with the ultra defensive post says things like "snowflake" and " didnt mean to hurt your feelings" keep projecting

First, hope Malik gets the help he needs. I’m assuming coke, amphetamines or prescription opioids. You don’t get suspended indefinitely for pot.

Second, I’m a legal cannabis advocate. I’ve seen it provide relief to cancer patients suffering through chemo treatments. I’ve seen it help veterans cope with PTSD. It helps my wife with her anxiety and depression and it helped me with migraines and crippling insomnia (i had a 2 year phase where I averaged 4 hours sleep per night. MJ made me sleep like a baby)

Third, I was an absolute wild child in my late teens and early 20s. I did all of the drugs at least once except for heroin. I used to drink to the point of drunkenness 4-7 days a week. Now I might have 6 drinks each year. Marijuana is the only drug that I wouldn’t try to talk someone out of trying. I smoked literally every day from 97-05. I didn’t smoke at all for 7 years after that. Now, I blaze on most weekends but if I don’t have time, no big deal. I’m happily married, have a college degree, am employed full time at a job that’s more mental than physical, and pay all my bills on time. So, stupid weed stereotypes don’t apply to me other than enjoying video games as a hobby.
