What a halftime speech, I will never question this team being down because they didn’t look a bit worried and knew they could win the game.
What a novel idea for a coach to actual give his players encouragement instead of yelling and screaming at them. What a halftime speech, I will never question this team being down because they didn’t look a bit worried and knew they could win the game.
Cal always talked about his teams empowering themselves but he never seemed to help them reach that level. Players are an extension of their coach. Our players after three games are more empowered than any of Cals teams. No matter how this season ends, it's obvious the future is bright with Pope at the helm because of how he leads. Great things are coming. I have zero doubt of that. The best part of the halftime speech IMO was the first thing out of Pope’s mouth was “what do we see”. Then the players spoke up and told him what was wrong, not the other way around. They have taken ownership.
Cal always talked about this but never actually believed it. The players taking ownership of the team. Not fake leadership but empowering the players through positivity and expertise. They responded because they respect them, and they respect him because he’s done it himself and he prepares them and he has built trust.
Such a breath of fresh air.
