What a halftime speech, I will never question this team being down because they didn’t look a bit worried and knew they could win the game.
That is great stuff and just makes you way more excited about the direction of our program under Pope. This guy can coach and had the full attention of all his "older" players when he was telling them stuff. They were completely tuned in to what he was telling them to do. Way different from what we saw from the previous coach when players couldn't wait to walk away from his when he was talking.
What a novel idea for a coach to actual give his players encouragement instead of yelling and screaming at them.
The best part of the halftime speech IMO was the first thing out of Pope’s mouth was “what do we see”. Then the players spoke up and told him what was wrong, not the other way around. They have taken ownership.
Cal always talked about this but never actually believed it. The players taking ownership of the team. Not fake leadership but empowering the players through positivity and expertise. They responded because they respect them, and they respect him because he’s done it himself and he prepares them and he has built trust.

That's the difference between a 18 year old lead team and a 23 year old lead team. No ego, no gotta get my 20 points tonight to look good for the NBA. Say what went wrong, how we fix it, and bust your ass in the second half to win. All with a encouraging coach who knows how to connect with his players.
Could you imagine if we had you know who and his best bet would of been "go and "run" with B-rad making adjustments??? We would of been run out of the building easily a 20 point loss.

Great to have a smart coach who actually coaches and cares about Kentucky. Instead of the used car salesman selling the NBA.
