I don't know why anyone would bash the current guys. To me they are doing the best they can with the talent they have and the fact they have been together as a team for 4 months.
Disagree with OP. These kids are getting paid. You don't like how they're playing, bash away, they're still getting money.
Matt belittles our players all the time. I believe that Matt Jones hurts the program more than he helps it.
I know right. I'm amazed at how many people in this world hate seeing successful people so much that they'll make stuff up to justify their hate.
I listen to KSR every day, Matt is extremely fair, I've not heard him say anything that is even close to player bashing. If a guy isn't good enough, it's okay to respectfully state that. It's the truth, but Matt doesn’t even do that.
Fans that don't want to hear criticism of the program pile on Matt.
Its funny to me, they blame him for the bad state of UK basketball (whatever that is) and think that UK does well in spite of his constant attempts to bring the program down.
Its almost Jerry Tipton levels. I am not a Jones Fan boy by any stretch but the guy has been the most fair in his criticism, both pro and con than he has ever been. His knock under Tubby was he'd NEVER criticize and would bag on the fans that did - ostensibly because he was trying to build a brand, business and relationship with UK.
Seems like once KSR sold, he was free to see both sides of the coin without UK administration approval ahead of time.

It's been one of my biggest issues with this board - bashing of players. It's pervasive and has been for a long time. It's one of the main reasons I lose my cool and start criticizing other posters. I would love to see this cleaned up.

Spot on. Most UK fans are appreciative of them moving to LEX for a short time but every fan base has that 1% that can’t even take care if themselves so naturally they act like idiots.
I didn't see many fans bashing the players. Most were bashing the lack of adjustments against Arkansas, the reluctance to fall back to a zone, and the lack of feeding Amari Williams when he had a clear matchup advantage.
These guys are pros now that they are getting paid. You want to be paid like a big boy? Then you get everything that goes along with it, especially criticism. Having said that, I don’t particularly have anything to complain about with the current group of players.
Weird take on fandom. You get paid so I get to insult you? Is that your attitude at work. You’re so happy to get a paycheck that random strangers shitting on you has no effect on you? You deserve whatever treatment someone decides to level at you because you are being paid? Does that make any sense at all?
agree, they are no longer "student athletes". They are receiving pay to perform. That means they are open to praise and criticism.
Am I being paid as a public athlete, where my pay comes from my ability to play basketball well? No. And you bet your ass, my boss gets on me if im not performing well.

While I agree the what your saying, that sounds a bit condescending. This team has a ton of talent. They beat Duke and a bunch of other top 15 teams didn’t they and 2nd best efficiency(?). Every team has shortcomings.
I think every Cal thread should be combined. I’m sick of scrolling through the threads and seeing every other one updating us on the last 15 minutes of Cals existence.

I didn't mean it in a condescending way at all. You can't think, with the injuries we have, that we are on the talent level of a lot of teams we are playing in the SEC. Travis Perry is no where near the level of a Zachi Zeigler or even DJ Wagner. Collin Chandler isn't in the same league as Mouhamed Dioubate or Chad Baker Mazara.
This is stupid. This is a place for honest basketball discussion, not propaganda.
If a player can’t handle a little online criticism then he shouldn’t have chosen UK.
I didn’t necessarily mean it towards you. I know your not like that. A lot of people have been saying that. If I was a player and people kept saying your team is really good considering you have no talent I wouldn’t take that as a compliment at all. That was my point.
Bingo, when you don’t preform at work you risk being fired. I guess that ball players are off limits, and we should be happy that they even came to UK and took the money.
I think we should be thankful when we win and thankful when they lose, because it’s not about winning and losing but rather the competition and friendships made during the season. We should give the players participation trophies if they lose and provide them to the other team if they lose. 🙄
These guys are paid employees. Constructive criticism is fine and fair play to me.
I don’t make millions of dollars for a living, nor am I in a job where anyone would really care that much. It’s not the nature of my job. But, it is the nature of a professional athlete’s job and they all know it going in. If I were making millions, my level of care about fan criticism would be squarely at zero. Players know what they need to work on, why would you even bother allowing what fans say affect you at all? If you really feel this way, then you need to fight same fight for NBA players too.
