Law of the land. Blame the NCAA for not fixing this decades ago when athletes were just asking to be able get money for signatures.
Oh there's lots of blame to go around. Including the players. College education my foot.
Players are just using the system. Can't really blame them. Again, had the NCAA allowed a common sense thing years ago, we wouldn't have this mess now.
I don’t really get any of this. Why is 2016 the magical starting year when athletes should supposedly be entitled to this retroactive NIL settlement money? Why not 2015, 14, 13 or any prior year ...weren't they shafted out of the theoretical "what might've been" NIL payout too?

Yup but I’m guessing there is a statute of limitations or that’s the agreement reached, sucks but they are SOL.
Maybe some of the NBA stars like Maxey and SGA can write of their amounts and donate it to the new NIL fund. They don’t need that little relative money to them.
So how far up in the judicial system have these ruling came down.

Well, $600/month probably means a LOT to some of those who never made it and are making $40k/year in the G-League on puddle jumper planes in the cold.
I will never understand any of this. Regardless of whether anyone believes the athletes SHOULD have been allowed to be paid, they CHOSE to take the scholarships and play within the system and rules that existed, under no coercion or duress. In fact, they willfully engaged in the recruitment process, took advantage of the all expenses paid official visits, and made their own choices about which school to attend. They could have gone and done anything else they wanted to in the world, but instead opted to play college sports in exchange for free tuition, housing, food, tutoring, trainers, training facilities, and medical care.
