At this point, it's not Mitch...

It's Eli Capilouto...the school President

And apparently he thinks MB is doing a well enough job....

Not sure who can put the heat on him outside of thousands of empty seats this upcoming season....
Capiluoto isn’t going to get rid of Barnhart. Barnhart delivers on exactly what he’s been asked to do by the university and he’s the most well respected AD in the SEC.

He’s been chair of the SEC AD’s since 2017. When the SEC needed someone to coordinate with ESPN and oversee that all of the schools were making the upgrades necessary to launch the SEC network, they asked Barnhart to lead that. When the SEC needed to pick two people to oversee implementation of the House settlement provisions, they asked Barnhart and Trev Alberts to do that. Which reinforces the fact that Barnhart is exactly what a university president wants their AD to be.

There’s no way Capiluoto would consider firing Barnhart over a coaching situation related to wins and losses.

Yup, university is getting fat and rich anyways.

This confirms the rest of the SEC wants Barnhart as our AD since wins and losses become secondary to the above work. Nice distractions.

Yep…I always say that Mitch as a president and BOT’s dream as an AD. He’s not going anywhere until he wants to.

Unless it’s Alabama, Georgia , Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida or LSU.

Mitch has his faults, but he has really grown the UKAA in a prosperous organization. Could you imagine if the Lee Todd hired Joe Hall or some former basketball player instead of Mitch? Football would be a complete wreck and UKAA broke.

Incorrect. All of these schools have had AD's who hung around through bad times. A couple examples:

Mal Moore was the Bama AD from 1999 - 2013. He survived through hiring Dennis Franchione, Mike Price and Mike Shula. 6 seasons....4 bowl games (Independence x2, Music City and Cotton Bowl), put on probation by one coach and hired another coach who frequented bars and strip clubs and never even made it to the season. he was still the AD after all of that.

Jeremy Foley was a god at Florida. He hired Ron Zook, Will Mushcamp and Jim McElwain during his tenure. 3 guys over 10 years and only 4 of those ended with a top 25 ranking.

And that's why the football program will remain mediocre
It always will. The only sport that matters is bball and they will sacrifice and do what they can to ensure that.

Everyone can deal with football losses…just not losses on the hardwood.

You clearly don't understand the long history of UK football. Capilouto is among the most successful UK Presidents in every respect, including fundraising and athletic success. If you think you can "put the heat" on UK's President, good luck with that.

I agree.
But that’s also like saying it’s not Stoops
They can all kick rocks.

Okay Ill bite, what is your explanation for the mess that UK football has been for the overwhelming majority of the last 60+ years.. If it isn't the leadership from the top down at UK then what is it. It isn't fan support, its not lack of great players,we've had plenty. Its not money,UK actually turns a profit or breaks even most years,so what is it.Is it coaching, who picks and retains our coaches. I'm 67 and I have supported UK football for decades and with a couple of notable exceptions NOTHING ever changes. Why is that.

UK football has great fan support, but it’s not at the level of fan support for most other SEC football programs. We are also in the worst position of any SEC program in terms of recruiting (Kentucky just doesn’t produce much talent).

UK football is a like a Porsche 911 race car. If it’s run by a good racing team with a good driver, it’ll win an awful lot of GT races. The problem is that we’re not competing against other GT cars. We’re trying to race against Formula 1 cars (i.e., other SEC football programs).

It is extremely difficult to make that jump to a sustainably good program. Very few programs have done it over the past 50 years. Oregon, VaTech and Kansas State are the 3 that come to mind that had traditionally very weak programs and have made a leap to pretty consistent success. Programs can have patches of success, but it’s really hard to make that leap into a consistent top 25 program.

South Carolina, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vandy, etc.

I’m not making excuses. That’s just reality.

I have explained this very issue to you several times before. It isn't a "mess", but you aren't going to listen or change your mind. Like some other unhappy posters, you have already decided that everything is wrong. This reflects on your state of mind, not on the University of Kentucky. When things are going well, you tend to become subdued. But when things are not going well, you obviously enjoy posting these characteristically negative comments, and you are not alone.

The University of Kentucky is a founding member of the SEC, the wealthiest and most competitive conference in college athletics. Those sincerely interested can learn about the history of UK athletics here-

In current news, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees is about to invest at least $40 million on upkeep and new renovations for Kroger Field. Currently, University of Kentucky football is running the largest recruiting budget in its history.

UK football has produced 32 All Americans, 48 first-team all SEC performers, and 6 SEC Players of the Year. Five All Americans, 8 first team all SEC players, and one SEC Player of the Year have been named during the Stoops era. Stoops also produced a Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski Award winner.

Stoops was named SEC Coach of the Year in 2018.

By any objective measure, Stoops has been UK's most successful modern football coach. It is totally fair to wonder why Stoops seemed to peak in 2018. It is fair to observe that Stoops' 2022 and 2023 teams were not as good or as physical as his 2018 team.

It is totally fair, and correct, to observe that 2024 was a season of regression for UK football. We have already discussed the reasons here extensively for months, and it remains a ripe discussion for fans looking for a position by position assessment of UK's 2025 team. SEC football games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. UK regressed in skills necessary for physically controlling gaps upfront. At the same time, we had an inexperienced QB and we paid the price. The current transfer portal class should go a long way toward resolving those problems. But how will they match up week over week? We can't predict learning curves and injuries. That's why the games are played.

Notwithstanding problems of 2024, Stoops and his staff have maintained their recruiting chops. But there is a context to that - most SEC coaching staffs are strong recruiters. With that being understood, Stoops continues to recruit well and use the transfer portal effectively.

This board has been heavily reactive. While doomsday advocates are still melting down over Vince Marrow's departure for UL, there is no objective evidence yet that Marrow's departure has hurt UK. Stoops continues to add to his list of 2026 commitments. So far, none have decommitted from UK. Remarkably, though, instate DT Josiah Hope actually just did decommit - FROM UL! In a nutshell, that's how much recruiting traction Marrow currently has.

For those negative nancies, skeletally challenged UK "fans", and UL trolls who are gaining so much obvious enjoyment from the aftermath of UK's unsuccessful 2024 football season, there is nothing more to say. If this is what turns you on, enjoy while you can.

I and others have made an effort to provide threads for discourse by fans interested in analysis without pretense or 2024 hangovers. We have a football program with good facilities and a good staff. Whether enough coping and adaptation has been accomplished is a different story, and anything is possible. I am making no predictions, but I remain optimistic. I am cautiously pleased by the roster improvements and haven't forgotten what Stoops is capable of doing.

I agree that tings are never as bad as some make it to be. And Stoops has done some amazing things for UK football. 10 wins twice is no small feet at UK.

My concern is that this is a 3 year slide and not a 1 year slide. 2 wins vs SEC teams that finished with a winning record. 2-10 in home SEC games. That’s not good.

We are a society of what have you done for me lately. I can appreciate what Stoops has done for the program and feel that the past 3 years have been unacceptable. UK has put major resources into the football program. If Stoops has a 4th below mediocre football season. It’s time to figure out how to work on the buyout with him imo.

All fair points. I agree, the 2025 season will be make or break for Mark Stoops. As it should. Right?

However, Stoops has managed the transfer portal pretty well. He has the necessary state of the art facilities.

The more I think about it, and this isn't sour grapes, I wonder if Marrow's absence might provide a breath of fresh air for Bush Hamdan and the offensive staff. I'm just becoming suspicious. Hamdan has an impressive resume. There were rumors of division in the locker room in 2024. Now that Marrow has awkwardly violated the facade of friendship and begun dropping foolish public hints of his true negative feelings, I suspect Marrow was a source of division last year. Maybe that is why Lemaster, Dingle, and Anderson left? It adds up.

So Stoops now has a more than adequate roster, a rebuilt OL, an experienced QB, and great training facilities. The test is going to be whether this coaching staff can translate those assets into a good, sound 2025 football team that executes assignments and wins more games than we lose. If he can, then Stoops starts looking like the comeback kid. But if he can't, then it looks like a staff that can't get the players to play up to their abilities. We have discussed the 2024 team's shortcomings on the OL and at QB. Those have been fixed. Now we need to see Ws. Either way, win or lose, it's on Stoops. If we still can't win, I think he resigns, maybe with a shove from Barnhart. l honestly don't know why anyone would be surprised by that under the circumstances. After all, Barnhart pushed Tubby and Cal OTD. That's a fact.

And I think Jon Sumrall is probably the guy in waiting. I don't know that for a fact though. It just looks that way, if he wants it.

Exactly. They probably call him their whipping boy. Why wouldn’t the other schools want him to stay. He’s the only one that’s always 3 years behind. That makes their job easier.

I just read an article by Rowland thats a subscriber article so I don't want to say much, but it read like the only coach unhappy is Stoops.

Of course I don't know Vince, but he has always come across as someone who had huge ego. He wasn't liked very well by his staff or other staffs. If what Roland is true he could be the highest paid person in college sports.

Your right the last 3 years I have been subdued. Also you talk about Stops 2 great teams and they were, he has been here 13 years and those teams are rapidly disappearing in our rearview mirror. My post wasn't so much about Stoops as it the University itself, this cycle has been going on for decades.

And that's why the football program will remain mediocre
The program was not even mediocre for the vast majority of it's existence prior to their arrival. Sorry if some of us prefer a steady run of not horrible. You can't win the Indy 500 in a Chevette no matter how many drivers and crew chiefs you fire. If you can be consistently respectable then maybe you catch lightning in a bottle and have that special season but it isn't just a matter of whining enough about those actually doing the work. Two 10 win seasons here deserves a hell of a lot of respect which it never seems to get from too many.

If Sumrall ends up here I'll hope for the best. I do not find it an exciting hire nor do have much faith he will be as good as Stoops.
