Asked another way: How much would you pay, out of pocket, for a Title?

It would depend on how rich I am. If I’m worth 5 million plus I’d pay a few hundred thousand as long as I’m still making good money. If I’m worth 100 million I’d easily pay 5 million to win the title this season. Again as long as ive got strong investments. Where I sit now I’d pay around 20K to win it in K’s last season.
This right here it’s all about how much your worth. I’m not really worth all that much so I’d put $10,000 on it that’s a lot of $ for me. If I was to win the lottery tomorrow then I’d put 10 million down for a title! I love my Wildcats and love when we have National Titles!

The 4 major have to do things in life:

Root for UK
Live
Pay Taxes
Die

I’m with you on part 1. I want the teams to earn it so I wouldn’t give a dime for a guaranteed undeserved title. Part 2 though about UCLA, their titles weren’t earned either unless you consider getting the best players money could buy as being earned. They cheated their ass off for most of their titles, same as Duke and UNC.
I should have clarified that in my post. That is what I meant, they paid for their players which resulted in their titles. I was gonna mention Sam Gilbert and how he had control over it all.

And yes, you’re absolutely correct about Duke & UNC! Still pisses me off til this day that UNC got away with it all; the same with Duke. Sad thing is, as long as Knight is in charge he’ll continue to push players to Duke.

Fans buying a title isn’t a thing. I would pay zero. I probably have 40K already invested in the school and bb program. BTW we are paying cal 9 million right?

Yes but this is to ensure the title. In K’s last season, I’d pay a lot to see UK beat him for the title in his last season. Just couldn’t turn it down.

Are all the pledges here going into the official "Fans Pay TyTy to Come Back Next Year" fund?

What would you pay, out of your own pocket, for a Kentucky title?

I think I'd pay $5,000 today, maybe $10,000 later in life for a title. I think that's worth it, to watch Kentucky win 6 games in the tournament, grab the title, and the joy of it all. But hard for me to spend much more than that. Obviously towards the end of life, that number might rise.

Try and at least be honest here, because I'm pretty curious to see how far people would go. It's an interesting case study in fandom, IMO, and how much sports mean to someone.

I'd also be curious how this differs for your other teams, compared to Kentucky. I'd also like to know how much you could pay before your wife throws you out. lol.
I wouldn't pay a single cent. If we're good enough to win it, then let's do it. That's the fun of following the team and rooting for them ... not ever knowing how far they'll go. That's why they play the games.

For a UK basketball title? Not a dime. For a UK football championship, or a Super Bowl win for the Bengals? Enough that my wife would probably divorce me.

I wouldn't. Knowing the title is coming wouldn't be as fun.

I have 3 kids and one in the oven, sole monetary provider, they suck my good income dry and I fully intend on retiring by 60 :)

No one really knows exactly where the money for Calipari is coming from. I don’t believe it’s disclosed. Anyone paying for UK in any way could actually be contributing.

Morg, it is disclosed how much University pays him in salary. Rest is endorsements, radio/tv/probably Nike.

So Cal cuts into revenue stream more than budgeted salary.

His base is $400k.

All the people saying “I wouldn’t pay anything, titles are earned” are missing the point of the exercise. Obviously, a championship would be meaningless if it were simply auctioned off and not reflective of what happens on the court. The OP is really just asking “how much is winning a championship worth to you personally?”

A better question might be: A genie offers you a choice of gifts: 1) a sum of money or 2) Kentucky Basketball (legitimately) wins the next championship. How large does the sum of money need to be for you to choose option 1?

For me, I think $20,000. Higher than that and I think the money would produce greater happiness. Lower than that and the Kentucky championship memories would be worth more than the money.

I honestly wouldn't pay anything. I don't really live and die by UK anymore like I used to, kids have a funny way of fixing your priorities lol (if I had money to blow though of course I'd pay something, would all depend on how wealthy I was), I'm a postal carrier, we don't have 5k to burn haha

I’ve suspected I was way below the average pay grade on here. If everyone is being truthful, now I know. I’m right at retirement age, with not much of a nest egg, but I do have some options, with real estate and business equipment assets. But that’s going to my kids when I’m gone. I can’t imagine giving large sums of money to any sports program over my kids, that’s just me.

This would make a full circle back to the truck versus championship thread. I think that thread is why ski created this one.

20K, but only if I got to attend the F4 in decent seats.....not like the trash seats I sat at in Reliant Stadium in 2011. 2012 I sat at almost mid court, lower level but they were still pretty far back the way NOLA had them laid out. PS, Lamb was draining 3's in warmup and at halftime warmups at Reliant and had the "depth" figured out, but Knight only trusted himself. Get it to Lamb, we absolutely beat UCONN.

Kind of, I guess. I see where people are coming from in saying that the title would no longer have been earned, and I can respect that.

But I made this thread because too many people couldn't get past the whole "I don't need a truck" part, and thought a better example was just saying how much you'd give for a UK title. There's different ways to ask it, and I like the Genie one too.

5 was what I thought when I read the thread title and I wouldn't bat an eye. We got screwed out of a championship when Wooden retired. This would be some payback for that, and just the joy of living out my days knowing that K lost to us in his last game would be worth that much for me. I've spent more on vacations and what do I have to show for them?

Lol. Like you man, but you’re too crazy rich for me.

I wouldn’t pay a cent but I would be at the Championship game. Then I would spend a small fortune on shirts and hats that had champions on them.

Based on my stock portfolio my account went up plus $60,000 and of course could go down $100,000 if the market goes down big time. I am 71 years old and set for life. I would easily pay $50,000 especially if it was beating Duke in the championship game or any one else for that matter as I probably don’t have that many years left. As they say you can’t take it with you!
