Article Shows Brutality from Fans on Recruits' Social Media

Absolutely ridiculous how some of these "fans" on social media react when players don't choose their school. Easy to type behind a screen and bully/threaten online. Wish these dumbasses had to say these things to the players face to face. Then we would see what they say. Not sure why some fans feel entitled that recruits should pick their school. It is the player's decision to pick a place where he feels comfortable and thinks it will help better his future. I know we have idiots that do this as well. Just wish it would stop, but as long as these moron fans remain anonymous, it will continue to happen.
Should do some sort of show that brings all of these people who bash players for not choosing their school, put them all in a room and tell them they have been chosen as the teams biggest fans to discuss the upcoming season. Then have the players they threatened for not going to their school walk in and make the trolls read their comments directly to the players. Would love to see their reactions and have them feel the embarrassment on national television.

Every fanbase has idiots and people who will threaten an 18 year old kid. The Media will only make it a story if it's Kentucky fans though, that's what pisses me off
UK's fanbase has its own fair share of morons and individuals tweeting ill-advised comments to young men for making decisions they believe to be in their own best interests. Hell, as a member of this site, I have seen quite a bit of stupidity when recruits choose to go elsewhere.
1) I have zero issue with criticizing any player over their play within a message board context
2) I have real issues when you directly tweet players over their play or decision on where they decide to play
3) I have serious issues when you hope they have some sort of injury when announcing a decision...and by serious issues I mean I hope you get hit by a train.

I agree totally with 2 and 3. But even on a message board, some go too far.
Criticism of play is one thing but personal attacks are out of line. I've seen "fans" call players trash. That is ridiculous.
I've seen some UK fans do this and it's embarrassing. Sure , saying "oh I hope so and so school losses all their games " is one thing... but to wish harm , use slurs call names etc is absurd.

Good article that some of our fans need to read. This really brings to light how stupid and cruel some fans can be when it comes to recruiting. We have the best coach and recruiter in the world, but even he can't get everyone he goes after. I take the wins with the loses. Don't like it when a recruit I really want picks another school, but that is life and I just deal with it and move on.

No. People are ruining society. Don't blame it like people do with guns. Guns don't just fire themselves. Same with social media.
You should be as good or better than the player to criticize his play. If you are either of those then you'd know enough to keep your mouth shut. Then, of course, that would be the end of sport sites where the Walter Middys flourish like weeds over a leaking septic tank.

I'm so glad that no UK fan would do this. I truly believe everyone and I mean everyone in our Fanbase is above doing something like this. Thank goodness we're on the good guy side.

the shared link(story) had Duke, UNC, and VCU fans as being hateful...nothing about UK fans. nothing to be paranoid about.
As it applies to fans of every school including UK, if you're an adult and harass your own players, opposing players or recruits on social media, you're a loser and should really question your purpose in life.

If you become this unglued over some 17-18 year olds college decision, then you have some serious problems.
Absolutely. I love making fun of UNC, Louisville, and especially Duke fans but to think we don't have people making fun if kids who choose other schools is being foolish. I saw a guy wish an ACL injury on Anthony Bennet for choosing unlv over UK. "ride or die with UK or die" I think was the tweet he sent me when I confronted him about with his tweets to Bennett.
And to think we don't have fools posing as UK fans like Zay and ukups1 sending kids stuff on social media is fantasy. Trash gonna do trashy things
This is high level sport. From a coaches perspective, I'd say use and and abuse it. If you can't deal with it, you're too soft.
I like the drama. I like players having to deal with it. I like seeing which guys can handle it and which guys can't. Without crazy idiots in sports this wouldn't be any fun. Maybe I'm wrong for that, or maybe Knox should count money as his touchdown dance when he slams a ball off of UNC's face?

To be fair some of our fans are just as bad. This is child's play compared to the Higgins comments on his fb which were pure gold
I see what you're saying, but I'm a 36-year-old man. If I use the twatter or the BookFace to harass 18-year-olds who have a skill I'll never possess, I'm a worthless piece of crap and everyone who knows me should shun me from all gatherings because I take the sportsball - and likely myself - a tad bit too seriously.
