Surely they have a good hire already signed or arnett did something egregious. Otherwise I just don't understand the firing at this point. He took over in an awful position. They handled the entire thing wrong and burned a promising DC for stepping up in a time of need
I agree, Jon Sumrall will be on their short list. I suppose it'd be best to see what he's got there and if the time is right. They've gotta compete with Texas A&M and soon Arkansas for a new hire so better get ahead of things
This sucks. We need the bottom feeders to remain bad because that’s the only chance we have of winning. Just hope they suck more than we do.

Years past Chadwell would be by-passed, he has had NCAA issues. But after Auburn hired Freeze all bets are now off.
Arnett was put in an almost impossible situation. Good, young DC will land on his feet somewhere.
I hear you….. the SEC dropped them from our 2024 schedule; replaced by Auburn. AU is by no means elite, but definitely a tougher opponent than State.
Edit to add that Arnett was clearly not getting it done, but he was essentially set up to fail IMO.
His downfall was changing the offense. He had the QB and players in place to keep Leach’s O and went another direction with it and it has been terrible.
Even Miss St won't put up with mediocrity... UK would have given him 5 years.
I agree changing the offense was rough but what else could he do? Leach essentially dominated the offense and coaching in all aspects to the point where no one on the staff could step up and takeover. With such little time, they had to get an OC in and undoubtedly took whoever they could get.
The season was destined to be awful. There was really no way it wouldn't be.
Question...wonder if JF's contract is structured so if he takes another job he forfeits TAM money.
I suspect that they fired him now in order to give them time to try and line up a new coach before December 4th.
Arnett was making 3.5M...lowest in SEC (Vandy doesn't provide their salaries as private school). So buying out whatever years he had won't sting too much and was the right move for them.
THey can and should be better with SEC money and those SEC and Big 10 jobs will look alot different now that realignment is basically pushing ACC, Big12 and Pac 10 jobs to a lesser extent. So this job will draw better pools of candidates.
As far as UK goes...we don't play them as West foe anymore....not even on the 2024 schedule. So I don't think it impacts UK much at all if they are bad or decent. Sort of like Arkansas...little impact to UK now-a-days.

Would he be a candidate for position coach at UK (I'm thinking safeties, DL, etc)? Might be a DC-in-waiting if Stoops gets disenchanted with BW's passive defense that gets torched by good teams. Don't know his resume but might be able to pick him up cheap and he'd for damn sure be >>> Buffano as far as coaching (how could he be worse, honestly).
Getting rid of BW would only be an escape goat for Stoops. The D is his baby as much as BW.
Considering the situation, he should have been considered an interim for the year with the chance to earn the job permanently. I know it was to appease the players and prevent a mass run of transfers, but I think the Interim tag could have done that just as well.
I mean if they can get Mullen back that's a good outcome. They just neer to temper expectations. In the NIL era and expanded sec msu isn't gonna do much.

Our defense is a little down this year, but not actually by all that much. We have an inexperienced secondary. They are talented, but we are starting mainly freshmen and sophomores in our secondary. Criticisms of our defense on this board are not very well researched. UK's defense is basically performing at the level of MO's and TN's defenses. That isn't what we want, but not nearly as bad as many impulsive posters are saying. Our problem is clearly our OL. How are people missing this? IRDK.

Disagree. Every team with a pulse on offense has pushed us all over the field. Our overall stats may be 'normal' but in the games where we aren't heavy favorites, we've stunk up the place. Milton had a career day vs our D and has looked a lot like a big step down from Hooker in pretty much every other game that isn't some cupcake. Missouri had no trouble putting 38 points on the board in a little over 3 quarters. Only team that Bama hasn't given up a sack to this year, INCLUDING a couple of real cupcakes, is UK. Not sure what you're seeing besides stats but, to me and many others, the defense is definitely a step or two from where we've been in previous years.
Beamer was there from 2004 to 2006 as RB coach a couple years and CB coach and recruiting coordinator. I didn't know he was there either but spent a little while there, not sure anyone he knew is still there.

ATM will have to hire a coach first before flipping Lagway, but I’m not sure why a top QB from TX wants to play for Napier’s UF right now. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them hire Norvell/Elko then flip Lagway pretty quickly to kick things off.
