They're up 1 with 3 minutes to go. They don't score again. They had absolutely no clue what they were doing on the last 5-6 possessions.

And the thing is, they were right there. They play the best defense in the conference. And then when it mattered the most, well, we have seen it before.

They got the lead and went straight panic mode!😂😂

It looks like you are playing great defense when you go 14 minutes into the second half without getting a single foul called against you when you are the most physical team in the SEC.

League trying hard to get Cal and Arkansas in the tournament.

I watched the game.First I noticed Wagner much improved on defensive end this year. Second Davis is healthy, different ball club when he is.Finally Big Z is their biggest liability

You can change the uniform colors but you can’t change the fact that Cal is a horrid late game coach!

Aaron harrison and Brandon Knight absolutely bailed him out in those two improbable final four runs. I will say we had a good game plan versus Ohio State in 2011 at least. Left Harrelson on Sullinger and stayed on their shooters. But late game that was all Knight as Cal didn’t even try to set anything up. Same with Aaron in 2014. i’ll give some credit to Cal for getting the team to that point but once again late game it was just aaron hitting contested threes. We got extremely lucky Aaron had a set on him.

This is what drove me crazy the most about Cal. It plagued all of his teams. He coached them to hold the ball and drain the clock when they had a lead, and it started as early as the 8 min mark, but usually around 5 or 6 mins. When you do that, the team instills that habit, so that when they need to score late in games, they don't have the muscle memory of doing it. Not to mention he didn't much of a systematic offensive approach, or elaborate plays.

I thought about doing it, but never did, but I was going to start charting how much other teams score in the last 8 mins, and how much we scored. It was very often lobsided. We would play stall ball, and the other team would be aggressive and score pretty easily because that was another aspect of his coaching. Lax defense down the stretch. I will never understand why he did this. It cost us another title in 2015.

isn't that what happened to us against Texas the other night

Yes it did. With a freshman point guard that had never been in that position before. UK has won several games this year BECAUSE of better execution down the stretch when all of our top players are playing. Saturday was the exception, not the norm. Cal’s teams have done it routinely over a period of 20 years. Big difference.

I love it when people bring facts to the table and don't go off in the moment emotion. Cals butt puckers so much in games like that. It's defintely a trend.

And this offense down the stretch surprises you, we saw this over and over at UK with Cal for the past 5 to 6 years. Cal does not run a set offense, once he gets a lead he runs the shot clock down and they end up taking bad shots. Strange how Cal gets up for the really big games then loses to teams he should never lose to with the hogs.

Cal put a lot of trust in Z to take that 3 to tie even though he was “O for” from the arc. Hate to see it.

Can’t believe they shot the 3 ball like that against us. Can only hope with Richmond and Knox finishing strong they all bounce and cal is left with nothing.

Typical Cal team. Talented and right there only to do the little things that kill them. 7/14 from the line. He wont let Z shoot 3’s while he is hot all year but lets him chuck away and take a huge late shot that he air balled. 0-9 from 3. It was time for him to go because we got tired of that all the time. Same script every single time.

Let us wait and see if Pope can play Auburn as tough as AR played them before we continue to bash Cal. Cal is gone except we will not turn loose of him. Damn, why do we daily continue to give Cal move coverage than we do our coach Pope? Insane we can't let Cal go. He does not coach our team so why do we give a shvt ?

How was the end of the game execution the last time Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, the Mississippi schools, Tennessee and Vandy played?

IMO Arkansas being in that game at the end had way more to do with Auburn than it did Arkansas. Auburn played the whole game very lackadaisically, almost like they weren’t fully into it. Cal letting Z shoot threes over and over reminded me of how he gives guys way too much freedom. But that seems to be the trend in today’s game at most schools. I kept hearing Cal’s voice in my head saying “ you don’t have to make them all, you just can’t miss them all.” Well Cal, he missed them all.
I can’t stand Cal and love the fact that he’s no longer here, and hope they miss the tournament. But after the meltdown at the end of the Texas game where we couldn’t even inbound the ball it’s hard to say much about end of game meltdowns.

Reminds me of our overtime loss to Texas A&M last season, where we never made not 1 field goal in the 5 minute overtime. Choking up at the end of tight games. Where have we seen this before.

What we do against Auburn has nothing to do with Cal being Cal. We could lose by 50 and it doesn't change the fact that Cal is coaching another team full of elite athletes that struggles to score every trip and then chokes by taking the air out of the ball in the end. Early in Cal's career I felt the "Cal just rolls the ball out" narrative was unfair. It still may be unfair but either he just rolls the ball out or he has lost it. However, he is coaching Arkansas more like he did early in his career. He definitely is putting more effort into coaching now than he did his last few years at UK. It is painfully obvious because I watched Arkansas run an out of bounds play in the second half and score. Seriously....they did.

He is trying to prove the Bennies wrong but his current fastball is equivalent to a 35 year old AAA pitcher who still thinks he has it, but he is in AAA for a reason and he is the only one who can't figure it out or can't be intellectually honest with himself.

Funny...Arkansas was clearly mentioned in the title of the thread.

You could have easily bypassed since you don't care..

But....you responded in the thread..

Let's explain slowly for those that don't "care".

This is a basketball forum. The former 15 year coach of UK, left to coach in the SEC. At a school that for many years was our main rival in the SEC. That may cause some (blush) to comment about that coach and team on occasion.

If there was only a way not to respond in these threads in which people don't "care".

Isn't it crazy that they beat us..

Maybe when looking at their record it was crazy but they are way more athletic then us and our defense was awful and allowed them to shoot wide open threes and they hit them. If they hit 8-10 threes in a game against anyone they are going to have a good chance to win. The problem is they typically shoot like they did last night against Auburn.

I know a lot of people poke fun at Kansas coach Self stating they “ran out of time” in 2012. But they really did. Cal puckered at the end of that game and almost lost it.
