Are Indiana And Butler The Only 2 Mid-Majors To Appear In Title Game Last 40+ Yrs?

What other mid-major programs besides those 2 have played for the title? Off the top of my head it has
been a long time.

1950 CCNY
1963 Chicago Loyola
1967 Dayton

Darryl
CCNY was a power at the time.

Someone help me...... Who the hell is the Pitino-lite crypt keeper assistant that is in every damn Crean picture? The guy looks lost every time I see him. ....... needs to abandon the slick back.

That's Steve "Shooter" McClain!
The Dennis Hopper character in Hoosiers was loosely based on Steve's life story (or was it the other way around, lol)

Shooter used to be the HC at Colorado, just finished a stint of about five years as an IU assistant, and is starting this year as the HC at Illinois-Chicago.

Is he better than Crean?

Is he better than Crean?!?

They gave him the clipboard and told him to take over once.
He ran the ol' picket fence to perfection.

Oh come on Hoosierjoe, you know you wouldn't have hired Clappy if you had it to do over again.

1) I don't get to hire anyone. I root for my team as long as they are keeping ethical standards up. If they aren't I root for them to clean house.

2) Was Stevens available when I would have made this alleged hire? ;)

Are you really trying to tout that line? Why do Indiana fans not demand excellence off AND on the court? How much are you paying your basketball coach to teach the university ethics course. And anyway, he's doing a terrible job at ethical recruiting. You guys have had turmoil pretty continuously.

Your post reads like you perceive anyone who does both to be, well, not doing both. I think we both know you're coping.

Come on, I know you. You know you. And I know that thou know that I know you.

Yes say Stevens was available.
Wasn't he available?

Many IU fans fully support Crean, and some do not.

From those two categories, all of them would like Brad Stevens to be IU's coach!

Would Stevens coming back to college at UK winning in legacy style be the end of IU as a real destination job? Like, for good? End of story. It's over. Just beat Valpo?

I love what ifs....

And he denied my question. That's probably a tough one.

You have to be kidding me. Name a program with less ethical standards than Indiana over the past decade? What a joke.

A program riddled with drug and alcohol problems, Players being run out every single year due to over recruiting, probation because you hired a cheating coach that then cheated at Indiana, constant allegations related to IU and A-Hope, The recruiting scandal involving Crean and Gary Harris, the classless incident at Michigan with Crean....

For Gods sake, the word "creaning" describes as unethical behavior as a university can allow. Is there anyone on this earth more self righteous than Indiana basketball fan? You have not been relevant in 30 years and promote this nonsense of doing it the right way while practicing exactly the opposite.

Or a better question, if that was Kentucky and Calipari's issues, would Indiana fans feel the same they do now?

They're using the "good kids" line that is so damn 2009 it's past time to be put in the dirt. I always find it hilarious when programs like Memphis and Indiana put us down while they STAY IN TURMOIL and we literally have no issues. It's delusion on a pathetic and sorrowful scale. This guy doesn't even have a clue what he's doing or really saying, LMAO.

the SCANDAL about Gary Harris!!!

RIDDLED with drug and alcohol problems!! (unless you're talking about Sampscum - yes, needed to clean house after his one and a half years. HE was a real problem ethically)

CONSTANT CHEATING ALLEGATIONS about AHope!! (that led to Tijan Jobe, Peter Jurkin, and Perea at IU...two honor roll students, zero good bball players)

CLASSLESS INCIDENT with Michigan!! (yes, Crean got really pissed at a Sampson assistant after an IU win)

PLAYERS RUN OUT EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR!!!! (geez, we're under the scholly limit again this year, thank goodness we got Max Bielfeldt! oh wait, he had eligibility left at UM but they told him his scholly was revoked)

lol - Lots of incendiary adjectives doesn't make it so. The IU fans that don't support Crean feel that way because of legitimate doubts about his coaching, not because of questions about his personal character or whether he's running a clean program.

Prove me wrong on one of them.

Crean admitted he was at HSE during a dead period and admitted to secondary violations.

Maybe you missed the start of last season?

Did you forget about the characture drawn of concrete on the cover of ESPN the Magazine regarding the shady stuff going on with a hope? You really think ESPN the Magazine is going to do a cover story on something without any proof?

Did you not see the end of the Michigan game? And you thought the blow by Crean handshake couldn't get worse....

How many scholarship players have been "Matt Roth'd" by Crean?

Again, give me facts. An IU fan lecturing anyone else on false accusations might be the most hypocritical thing I've heard since "doing it the right way."

--> "Crean admitted he was at HSE during a dead period and admitted to secondary violations." TRUE! Self-reported, didn't talk to Harris, was in his gym on a dead period day. One secondary violation in eight years. Scandal? c'mon
--> "shady stuff going on with a hope" I read the article. IU got three Ahope players out of countless ones who played D1 ball. Got a couple from Indiana Elite (as did UK). Not sure that there was any factual basis for anything there. Not even sure what the "there" is!
--> "Did you not see the end of the Michigan game?" After an IU win at Michigan, Crean screamed at former Sampson assistant Jeff Meyer that the Sampson era tried to ruin IU. Yup, Crean was fired up and NOT a gentleman at all. Not much of an ethical lapse in any sense, but okay, being mean to Meyer was...mean.
--> "How many scholarship players have been "Matt Roth'd" by Crean?" Oh...you mean players who have gotten a degree under Crean (in Roth's case two degrees), but still had a year of eligibility left and weren't invited back for a fifth year in the program? Two; Roth and Creek. BTW, Bielfeldt plays for IU this year under the EXACT SAME CIRCUMSTANCES - UM stated that he graduated and wouldn't be invited back for Bielfeldt's last year of eligibility. Roth has two more college degrees than all scholly players UK has recruited in he Cal era COMBINED. This year is looking to be the fourth out of eight Crean years that IU will start the school year under the scholly limit. I know the urban dictionary likes the catch phrase. So what.

Once again; criticizing Crean's ability to win at the highest level is legit. This stuff is grasping at straws unnecessarily, given that Crean is going into his eigth year at IU and hasn't gotten past the Sweet Sixteen.

indiana is the belle of the ball... kentucky is filled with trash , lies , cheats , and scandal..

i'd love to see crean and calipari in a fight, crean would destroy him

I like ya HoosierfamJM, but this statement is just ridiculous. I can think of at least two players during the Cal era that graduated early, Patrick Patterson and Alex Poythress. Not to mention all of the lesser athletes like Jarrod Polson and Jon Hood who graduated as well. P-Pat and Poy won't get two degrees because they have a great profession lined up already. If not, I wouldn't put it past either of them to continue to excel in academia.

Not knocking Patterson, Hood, or Polson at all. Patterson was a BCG recruit who I think only played one year under Cal. An excellent student-athlete that UK should be proud of. Hood was a BCG recruit. Polson was brought in as a walk-on (and was a great guy for UK's chemistry).

Poythress rocks! A model student-athlete who is also an excellent player. I'm a big fan of Poythress. (BTW, I fully understand that Cal's model for UK is fully authorized and appropriate. Just a bit of a cranky old throwback guy with the OAD rules the way they are.)

So a UK player going to college for 1 or 2 years then going pro is bad, but an IU player going to college for 1 or 2 years then transfering is fine? LOOK AT ALL THE TRANSFERS ON THAT LIST!!!!!!

Every player under Cal has gone pro or graduated. How's that compare to Indiana? Transfer U!

ummm about the same numb nuts... creans players all go pro or graduate...

kentucky hasnt had anyone transfer?

you sure are dumb

You have to be a complete dumbass to even attempt to argue any aspect whatsoever of the state of the two programs. There isn't a single aspect you can criticize about the UK program-on court success, academics or otherwise.

The greatest achievement of the last decade of IU basketball? Undeniably beating Kentucky. Congrats!
