Approximate pay for high major players per Jeff Goodman

I bet Oweh is pushing 3 million. Heck he might make more than that.

If he does well at the combine and is considering leaving, he might be able to renegotiate. Pope probably has some wiggle money ready in case his leading scorer and his only All-SEC player is on the fence about returning.

Pope cannot afford to let Oweh go pro. He needs his experience and leadership. He may have to get that checkbook back out.

It was college basketball, they don't deserve this today
So just let all of the old guys (coaches, AD's and presidents) who are already rich get it all, while the players do all the work ???? Sounds fair. Not only did they get all the money using the players NIL, but expected them to keep up school work all while adding more games, travel, and time spent off campus to make the rich guys even more money. The 1950's called, they want your way of thinking back. Terrible. Work the shit out of kids and make tons of money off of them, and tell them, "here are some free books and a food card for the shitty cafeteria food, and a LITTLE allowance, now get your ass in the gym, get better, so we can get rich off of you while we sit back and watch. " GTFO here with that BS.

Shit is laughable. NBA won’t do it but Florida will?

The 6th pick in NBA draft makes 7.5M annually......

If college players who are not even first round worthy are going to command the same (not sure I believe that accuracy) is sort of nutty and in line for a correction eventually. And if Florida couldnt' pay Aberdeen 2M but can play a ball dominant guard like Fland 7M....then they need to examine how they do their money.

Instead of all this, how about we guess what Goodman's approximate pay is? That seems like a better time waster than farcical NIL guesses.

Players got 4 years of free tuition, free meals, free tutors, and many more perks that regular students did not receive. A four year education is worth onerxa $100K at most schools and that doesn’t cover room room and board, books and meals. If an athlete was so gifted that he would be worth millions, he was free to enter the NBA draft after meeting age and time requirements.
I understand those who say that they should be paid. But how much? College athletics were/are so endearing to many because the kids were amateurs, not professionals. It’s not the same when you only get players who are at your school because of how many millions they might make. It’s a farse to call many of them “student-athletes”. They’re hired guns! The only student athletes are.the ones who ride the pine for a chance to play at their dream school. And, yes, I’m an old-timer.
The tuition and all the 100+k$ is a drop in the bucket. That doesn't cost the university anything. They are just taking the money off the top of their profit. "Sure we will give these 10 people free food n dorms, they are making us 25 million $

If my work makes my company millions, am I entitled to it, beyond my salary?

Just playing devils advocate here. I get that these guys deserve more, but this whole thing has become a shitshow.

They weren't getting paid anything
Yes if you make a company 25million, you should be paid something

Same baseless argument, over and over. Full tuition, full room & board, training table, medical care, personal tutoring, annual stipend, etc is worth in excess of $60k annually. The airline travel, the hotel rooms, the gear and swag, the one-on-one coaching and skill development to lead to some kind of career, who knows what monetized value that has? And then there was all the under the table $. It’s never been indentured servitude.

Both sides of this argument have some correctness to them. One thing for sure if you take the amount of money the universities have made of the likeness of these players and for that service they got room and board and a few perks, it is like if you worked for say Toyota, and they made money off you. Not your work but you because you are in the publics eye, oh wait that happens every day, and those actors get paid extra for being in the publics eye representing that company. They do not get the same money that a guy working as a janitor for Toyota.
I would say that these guys deserve and have always deserved more than room and board, take away the flights and crap because that has nothing to do with the player personally, they are not flying on vacation, they are going to work, room and board, (food which was proven for years to be way less than the needed and they could not provide more than the basics till sometime after 2000) and 50 dollar handshakes (just as an example).

Go to work for someone and get minimum wage and do the work of the manager, how long you staying at that job? Go to work for someone and they make money off your name image and likeness in the private sector, are you going with base pay. No

He’s saying they deserve pay but not 7 million dollars. Obviously they deserved more than they got. This current model is not sustainable.

Let’s just make college athletics college athletics.

I could pull for a team of students who tried out and are willing to play for the love of the game.
The answer to NIL is simple. Everyone agrees to only pay 30k to any player to play and not a dime more. Easy peezy.
Immediately Tennessee, Louisville and A&M cheat the second they get back to campus.
Things would be easy is everyone would just be honest and play by the rules.

It's not about how much it's worth. It didn't cost the university anything. You are really listing travel for the team and hotel as part of being compensated lol
Good lord some of our fans are stuck in 1990.

It's to far out of control now, nothing can change it.
It comes down to the haves and have-nots.
You have the money to buy a contendor in sports or fall into the middle or the pack.

The upcoming court ruling will do nothing soon. When the ruling comes out it will be hit with a injunction and go to a different court.

Saw one article that ranked the top portal teams 'quality wise.' They only had us 7th. Ahead of us was UL at 3 and St Johns at 7. AR was right behind us at 8th. And TN was around 10th I think. Anyway, I thought UL got a couple of good guards and the rest was mediocre?
