AP Top 25 2/10 - UK #12

Damn, it's an embarrassing year for college hoops. Three of the top five teams in the poll are Baylor, Gonzaga and San Diego State. And the other two teams in the top five are basically the poster children for cheating.

It's not too far-fetched that UofL and Kansas could actually play for the national title. What an indictment of the NCAA that would be. UNC has already proven that it actually pays to cheat. It appears it's a successful business model.

Right now those three look like Final Four teams, although Gonzaga is probably the one most likely to lose before that because it will not be in an easy region. It’s gonna be a dogfight for the other 1-2 spots. Realistically any of the top 15 teams could win it all this year.

Can't be mad with that.. But that Auburn game really boned us. Probably would be in the top10 already.

Either way, as it stand now, this is not a 5 or 6 seed as some want us to believe. The SC isn't going to take what appears to be a final 3-seed/4-seed and then move us down a whole seed line or two.

As for upcoming games this week.. not a lot of opportunities for teams ahead of us to lose. Only one matchup has two ranked teams playing each other, that are ahead of us, Duke, FLState.. and I'm not sure either team losing would move them below us. Maryland does have two ranked games.. Either way, If Kentucky can take care of business this week.. we'd probably be about 10th.

Passed Villanova, Oregon, and West Virginia. Also, Butler dropped one to Marquette on Sunday so we didin't get 'jumped' by them and obviously Mich State dropped. All five of those teams were in the top 16 over us and I think we are clearly ahead of all five now.

Our other competition includes Iowa (lost), LSU (lost), and Arizona (lost)

Butler is a good example. They lost to unranked Marquette on Sunday, but beat Villanova, who lost to Seton Hall as well last week (and Crieghton the week before that). Butler stay ranked at #19, the same as the week before.

We lost to South Carolina and beat Arkansas on the road that one week and dropped five spots. Some of it has to do with who won and lost around you, but some of it doesn't make sense.

Bracket Matrix isn't 100% live. It sometimes takes guys a few days to update after the weekend. A lot of the ones that are updated now show us as a 4 seed.

Auburn has won 6 in a row with 2 of the last 3 against ranked teams but dropped a spot in the coaches poll.

LSU took a really hard hit with that loss to Vandy and also a loss to Auburn by dropping 7 spots in the AP poll to 25th and 8 spots in the coaches poll to 26th.

In the meantime Mich St has lost 5 of the last 8 and is still in 25th in the coaches poll. :joy:

Auburn is really coming on. They’ve won 3 OT games in the last month. They could be a problem. If they’re able to land Jalen Green with what they already have coming in next year, look for Auburn and U.K. to be battling it out for the SEC title.

Seth Dookie Davis put UK at #14. No surprise.
His is actually not that bad. Jesse Newell (Kansas City Star) on the other hand is a joke.. Some notables:

9. Michigan State - yes, you read that right. 17 spots above ranking
13. Ohio State - yes, you read that right too. 19 spots above ranking
14. Arizona - and you read that right. 16 spots above ranking
16 Purdue - this one too. 16 spots above ranking
22. Kentucky - 10 spots below ranking
24. Auburn - 13 spots below ranking

Good grief.

UK would beat Penn State by at least 10 points. They don’t have a single player that would win a matchup with any of UK’s players.
Penn State is actually a very good team this year. Lamar Stevens is a legit college player and would start for us at the 4, no doubt.

Idiots like this should have their voting privileges revoked.

Wow that’s embarrassingly bad. He should have his voting privileges revoked. He’s showing a true lack of knowledge and or biased voting.

That assumes Sharife Cooper can play as well as Doughty and Harper have the last 2 years. They have never run a freshman at PG, much less one that is 5’6”.

Cooper will be a really good college guard. He’s got some Ulis in him. Let’s not forget that Cal was after him for a long time. If Cal thought he was good enough to play PG at U.K., he’s certainly good enough to play at Auburn.

He just clearly doesn’t know basketball very well at all. It shows with him putting 15-8 Cincinnati coming off a loss to UConn at #20. Cincy has losses to Tulane, Xavier, Memphis, Colgate and Bowling Green as well. Terrible resume.

Interesting that AZ and MSU have dropped to 30 and 26 respectively in the AP poll (and similarly in the Coaches) but are still at 10 and 11 in the NET.

This seems to validate some of us here who think the NET is very flawed. When the human eye test is applied those teams don't fare to well.

Similarly the NET has UK at 22 while the humans have us at 12.

I believe that when the SC looks at seeding, they'll use NET as one of their tools and use Q1 and 2 wins (and yes, the polls some) to seed. We already know this when the 16 were disclosed Saturday and we didn't make it but were in the conversation, even though we were NET 24.

Cats in the hunt for a 2 or 3 seed, no worse than a 4, if we take care of business.

Jesse Newell is a KU grad. nuff said.

Gonna be a gazillion upsets in the 5-8 seeds this year. You could throw a blanket over everybody out of the top 15. Very little separation.
Yeah, my thoughts too. We have as good a chance to make the final four as about 30 teams. This year will be a dartboard-type tourney.
