Anyone Surprised By This Stat Graphic?

One of the biggest indicators of someone's coaching ability and Xs and Os is their performance after timeouts, end of game, end of shot clock, baseline out of bounds, etc.

This graphic ranks teams based on their success in these scenarios.

Look who's at/near the top of the SEC rankings in this metric, and look who is (comfortably) at the bottom.

Either way, great to see! Been fun to watch.

Biggest surprises for me: Tennessee, Michigan State and Houston all WAY lower than I would have guessed.

Each conference has it's own column, so you can see how you stack up in your conference, and how your conference overall stacks up against other leagues.

We were at the top of the SEC "column" (along with Auburn and Oklahoma) and Arkansas was in the basement.

LOL, yeah, they definitely could have used a better model to spell out what they were trying to say. That was a very odd graphic.

Funny thing is, in crunch time last night, Arkansas got a bucket off some nice action that essentially won them the game.

That's that broken clock type stuff though, we know that.

1. I’m not surprised at all about Arkansas and Kentucky. We all saw Cal struggle in these scenarios for years, and our team this year under Pope being much better at them matches the eye test.

2. You don’t have to like the guy (and I don’t, to be honest), but UConn being the best team in Division 1 in these scenarios if I’m reading this correctly would seem to at least somewhat validate Hurley’s opinion of himself.

3. Villanova ranking quite highly in this measure while being on their way to missing the tournament and putting Kyle Neptune out of a job says that maybe there’s limits to using this stat as a proxy for overall coaching ability.

Yeah, I mean no matter how good the coaching is, the players still have to go out and execute it. And success in execution depends partly on the quality of the players and partly on the quality of the opposition. So there's some other things that contribute. Don't know if this metric is adjusted for any of that. But definitely interesting!

Special Teams in basketball is what I described, and it also literally says it at the top of the chart- short clock, late clock, EOG (end of game), ATO (after timeout), OOB (Out of Bounds, usually baseline out of bounds).

This is literally a basketball chart you bozo, the Big East is on there GONZAGA is on here for Christ's sake.
