I work in eastern Kentucky every now and then. I've admired the way mountain folk think before they speak and say more with less wordage. Life is hard enough there without looking a gifthorse in the mouth. Why make lemons out of lemonade? As for pumping sunshine, personally I think it beats the tar out of pumping negative assumptions about our coach. I should think a Harlan native could use all the sunshine they could get.

This is true, he does push some out but he pushes the ones that you should push. If you're a top 5-10 pick then of course you push them because you never know what could happen. It's unlikely that you're stock will get much better just like when he tore up john Walls scholarship

Ok. So he does push some out. And probably does push some out that are below 10.

People he's not going to tell a projected #15 pick to return and tell pick #10 to leave. He's telling first found picks to roll. It's quite obvious. And it's his pitch. He needs guys to leave early. Otherwise his system will not work. You don't get it both ways. Cal is actively recruiting kids telling them player X won't be coming back. He recruits a totally new group. Not player, group. He's selling quickest route to the NBA.

Anyone who doesn't think he's pushing guys out is not paying attention or coach speak and fluff articles about wanting them back is eroding your thought process. The platoons should have shown this to be fact. Cal wasn't expecting those guys back when he started early recruiting.

It doesn't take long to learn with Cal you don't listen to him talk. You watch what he does. Remember when Ulis said he was told "if you want to graduate don't come here?" That's him selling his pitch. He's doing it with lots of guys. It's directly in your face every year and some people just won't accept it.

Why do some take that as a bash on cal and the system? If someone doesn't like that, fine. But it's what we do. Denying that reality is bizzare. I think it shows some don't actually like the system we have and they just can't allow themselves to believe Cal is really pushing them out. Denial is fine, but at some point you gotta see through it.

I think he makes them give him a good reason to come back to school. I think Boogie wanted to come back and felt he was not ready, but Cal told him he was an NBA superstar in the makings and did not need anymore college ball to help him develop. I think the Harrison Twins, Poy, Willie, Dakari, and ETC did not have a super high draft stock in a loaded year and he could accept that they all needed another year. TJones was fearful of a lockout and his stock was high but uncertain.

Calipari does tell players that their stock is the highest it will ever get and they'd be silly for leaving.

The only "ripping up the scholarship papers" incident I know of involved DeMarcus Cousins. He had filled out scholarship papers to return and paperwork to enter the draft.

While talking to coach about how he couldn't decide because he loved playing at UK, he asked for Cal's opinion. Cal then ripped up his scholarship papers in a way to make the decision for him.

That's the only case I've ever heard of that involved Cal ripping up scholarship papers.

Sons of my details might be slightly off, since it happened 8 years ago, but the gist of the story is correct based on memory.
