Anyone else feel cursed as a UK fan?

Did y’all think he was going to just head to the retirement home and pack it in?!

Dude is literally a HOF title winning, multi final four coach.

It’s not like he’s got a roster of scrubs. He’s got some ballers, most of whom came from here.

They all showed flashes, albeit inconsistently, last year. Now they’re all a year older. They’ve matured physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Hell Pitino left us 30 years ago and he’s still around doing what he does.

Cal ain’t going quietly folks. None of em do.

Making the Sweet 16 is a HUGE accomplishment for Arky, for UK, not so much. So let Cal and his crew celebrate that he can beat teams with flaws again as an UNDERDOG. Something that he NEVER could be at UK, no matter how LOW he brought the program!!!

Heck, look at how teams played UK this season with a new coach and a roster full of players from lower level programs!!! STILL packed houses with fired up fans EVERY time we went on the road!!!

Now IF, by some CRAZY twist of fate, he can win these next 2 and make it back to the Final 4, especially if he beats the Gators to get there, I will THEN feel slighted, but NEVER "cursed".
We’ve been to 4 sweet 16’s and two Elite 8’s, since yall have seen the second weekend of the tournament. I don’t mean that as a flame but to imply this is some “huge accomplishment” for us but somehow beneath y’all seems a bit tone deaf to be fair.

And your current coach was the very reason for that. You guys played a KU team that was ready for the season to be over and a St Johns team that was the WORST high seeded offensive team in Coach Pitino's career.

So, Cal FINALLY has a chip on his shoulder coaching your Hogs. Good for you guys. But to BRAG about UK's LACK of success when the very culprit for that is CURRENTLY coaching YOUR team, is HILARIOUS!!!!

He beat a 2 seed. Cal is a good coach, he just got caught up and enamored with one & done kids that is not a formula that wins championships. I bet he gets away from the one year kids going forward. I'm glad we have Pope but to continue to act like he had a trash team this year is just not true. The Fland kid's return from injury has given that team a whole new look just like if we had been healthy all year we would have looked totally different. We play Arkansas in their house next year and I do not look forward to that game. We may win but it most likely will not be a beatdown.
Fully lost me at "Cow is a good coach".

I guess, but I wasn’t “bragging”. To suggest going to the Sweet 16 is a “huge accomplishment” for us considering we’ve done it 4 times in 5 years, just seems disingenuous, no more no less.

We have our own chance to make a Sweet 16 tomorrow. Won’t lie…I’ve lived my entire life not believing in luck or curses but the rampant injuries have me second guessing
Come on dude. Barney is paying you to push this injury narrative right? I mean seriously? Have we had this complete of a team in the last 6 years even after injuries? I say no. We have the best shooter in the ncaa. We have a power guard who can get to the rack. We have a point guard who took his team to a national final. We have two big guys better than any other than Oscar the last 6 years. We have a stretch 4 we haven’t had. We have two Kentucky boys who have been contributors this year. Which team in the last 6 years did we have a dude at every spot? And if chandler gets going there’s your freshman future phenom. Let’s be honest here. We didn’t need Robinson to beat duke. Kerr was always going to be a problem like he has everywhere. Oh and 4 of our starters are super seniors graduate players so we have experience. Injuries have cost us ziltch it’s the narrative of a chicken

True. Barnhart directly told me injuries matter. Until he told me that, I knew the real truth — no matter who or the amount of injuries, they are irrelevant. “Barney” brainwashed me, but you came to save me. Thanks! 🙏

I believed UK was amazing as a 10 year old as well

Dog house? I suspect he wasn't paying within the offense and St Johns were cutting the lead without him. Rick was sending a message and he didn't care if it cost him a win. Best two players were on the bench at the end. Hard to win that way.
I gained a lot of respect for Rick today. Principled man.

St Johns shot 28% from the Field and 9% from beyond the arc.

I mean anyone thinking it wasn't St Johns having the worst choking job in history is nuts.... Coach Cal had nothing to do with those numbers.
Well, he wasn't out there blocking/changing shots, getting rebounds, and driving to the basket but be he did coach the team that did and kept them viable during periods of injury during the year. If a coach gets the blame when a team loses then they get the praise when they win.
Can't have it both ways in regards.

If you make it to the Sweet 16, you haven't won anything. You people are acting like beating a poor Kansas team and a St John's team that racked up wins in a shit conference is a fantastic job by Cal. If you don't win the Natty no one really cares who came in second and I doubt he makes it to the FF.

Don't forget 2012. Those type of seasons don't grow on trees. It has been 13 years and counting. Anytime a coach delivers a Championship, it hard to make chop liver out of him. I appreciate the trophy Cal delivred to Lexington and let's hope can do the same. A ton of really good coaches never achieve the Championship dream. We have been blessed to have 8 but only 4 since 1958. the is 4 in last 67 years or one every 16+ years. Cal beat our averagely winning one in 15 years. I think we just need to say thanks and let Cal ride off into a sunset.
I haven't forgotten it. I wish he'd never have been hired here.

Yo, can we wait until Kentucky equals this feat prior to saying it's not a big deal? Just seems like really bad karma.

It is, I mean you have one title in your history. Congrats. I honestly don’t care what you have done in the last couple years. Arkansas has a good basketball tradition no doubt but it’s not comparable. You have 10 elite 8 appearances in history. We have been to 38.

Its kinda obvious, Cal.held back those last few years. His hateard for mj and his disciples crippled our program and now Cal isn't under the KSR curse.

At UK, we don't hang banners for Sweet Sixteens or Elite Eights. IMO, we shouldn't do it for a FF and I don't think we do. We probably do for NCAA runner up, but even then I wouldn't do it. There is no substitute for winning and there are no moral victories where UK basketball is concerned. I've followed UK for 59 years and that's how I feel. How would Rupp, the Patriarch of UK basketball greatness, feel about finishing second? Remember the Texas Western loss? How would Nick Saban, Bear Bryant and Vince Lombardi feel about finishing second.

No, I'm not miserable because I understand that it takes a lot of things to fall into place to win an NCAA title. That's why I cherish the 8 we've won. We could have won 4 or 5 more with a break here and there, but that's sports and life in general. When you become complacent is when the program begins to lose its luster. For me, being satisfied with making it to the Sweet Sixteen with wins over Troy and hopefully Illinois is very nice for a first year coach with a team riddled with injuries and that makes me hopeful that we're on the right track to becoming the blue blood we have been for many decades. But we had a 20 year drought in Rupp's final years until Hall won in 1978 and unless we win this year which isn't happening, we'll be in a 13 year drought with Cal and Pope. If other schools can adapt to NIL and other changes, UK should be able to as well. I never give up and I enjoy it, but you'll never hear me crowing about a Sweet Sixteen or an Elite Eight. That's for schools that are not, never have and probably never will be considered blue bloods.

Why do you need validation from Kentucky? We all know why. If you really feel as you posted, you wouldn't be here attempting to convince this message board of your greatness. Fans of great programs don't run to other programs' message boards begging for acceptance.

This goober gonna act like this injured team is better than 2019 elite 8 UK or the 2020 UK team?

Don't see it.

Did you bump your head for the sport of it?

Cal is motivated. He wants to prove UK fans wrong and the media. He's always been like this. He got fat and happy at UK. Fact is, Cal wasn't doing anything else big at UK. He was placated. Too comfortable, no risk. If he sucks, what happens? He's at the job, he has 10 million a year, he has 56 "kids" in the NBA. But at Arkansas, all of a sudden, his legacy is on the line, he got ran out by those redneck UK fans, and they think he can't coach. And now the media agrees.

Cal has always been at his best with a chip on his shoulder. I think like us fans after 2015 he lost his mojo even though we did have a couple years of some success after.

Was no surprise to me that he's made this run.

I still stand by my previous post on page 1 that if St. Johns could shoot even 10% better than those putrid numbers Coach Cal would be sitting at home eating some Lays Potato Chips.

I’m not saying we’re “great”, we aren’t great, but spreading fake news, misinformation, and willful ignorance is a problem for us collectively across many spectrums…we should always call that out. Do you disagree with that?
