Anybody ever been to Athens Greece?

No help here, but when I was stationed in Turkey, took some leave time, hitched a ride on a mail plane and spent a few days there. That was almost 60 years ago. The Acropolis was the thing I most remember. A little later, they thought Turkey and Greece were going to war. They are historically bitter enemies. We were told to pack our gear and be ready to deploy in one hours notice. Worked 12 hours on and 12 hours off for 3 months without a day off till things calmed down.

I wonder what kind of jobs there are in the world for people who just want to travel the globe. Drug mule? Organ harvester? There must be some that allow for sightseeing.

You'd be shocked. Look up digital nomads on youtube. Young people live in a world we don't really understand. If my health holds up my wife and I plan to retire to Koh Samui, Thailand. SE Asia is crawling with digital nomads.

Looks like I’m going for 5 days in late May.

Any recommendations on things to do there, other than the obvious historical sites ?
For our 30th anniversary, my wife and I took a 10-day Mediterranean cruise back in Oct 2023, with several days in Rome both before and after the cruise. We made stops in Athens (actually docked in a suburb named Piraeus), Santorini, Mykonos, and Katakolo. Basically, our ship would dock early in the morning, then we would spend the day in port and get back on the boat late afternoon / early evening.

The cruise company had local tour companies to provide various options. For Athens, my wife and I simply took a bus from the boat into downtown Athens. Prior to the downtown, we made a 20-minute stop at the site of the 1896 Olympic Stadium. Once downtown, we hiked up to the Acropolis, checked it out, came back down for shopping etc. The Acropolis was cool to see up close, but

If you have the option to take a side trip I would definitely recommend spending a day at Mykonos.
