Just his PG from Iona so far has jumped on board. I have no doubt he will win big at St Johns but thought he would be killing in the portal by this point.

He’s pretty old. There are a number of coaches that are a bigger deal than he is now, especially to the younger kids. He also is tough and a stickler for conditioning. I think a lot of the kids want coddling more than conditioning.
Vamptino can’t pay NIL to anyone. Most of those in the portal are screaming ‘show me da money!!!’ It’s up to those willing to pay for likeness at R3P’s school to get players now. That’s how semipro works.

Have no doubt St Johns and Pitino will be fine and he will get some players out of the portal. You have to remember he is moving from one job to another with a lot of moving parts.
I find it weird that people expect kids to still care about him and want to play for him. I mean some will but it's not going to be any great players.
Well, moreso the families of the players. Which I get is messed up when you consider that all these schools have girls that entertain the recruits. But I mean look at Katrina and read about the stuff they were doing. Some of that has to stick to Pitino when moms help their sons make decisions.
He'll have NIL resources ... just getting a meeting with Mgbako (SP?) is a big deal for St. Johns ... I'd give it a little bit of time.
I think from UK side of things RP is a hot topic and everything is emphasized, the rest of the world he is guy who might be viewed differently than how UK sees him. Although I’m not sure he is viewed as a great anymore either by the rest of the world.

St John’s is a has been school with a terrible campus and a 70+ year old coach. It’s not all that appealing to top guys.

No, this board hypes Pitino up like it’s still 1996. I’m sure he’ll do okay in the Big East and make the tournament, but I don’t see him making St Johns a big time threat.

It may have been their decision . Mike Anderson isn’t very demanding , and they can get the same NIL elsewhere….don’t subject yourself to any more demands . The NBA will find you if you’re good enough …worst case , you get in RP’s doghouse .
