Our young guys are learning on the fly. However, the skill, depth and experience of another good lb would be perfect timing.

I don't want him to come back before he's fully heathy. But I'm hoping it is this week.

FWIW, Hargreaves didn't practice yesterday and is listed as questionable for Saturday night.

Put Heargraves on Baker, Bone, Badet, Johnson, Timmons, or anyone. He's only one guy. Even if he shuts down one of our guys, we've got at least one more on the field who can do some serious damage.

Won't say which one, but one of the defensive players told us afterm the game sat that he would be ready this week...we'll see

I've heard this as well.

Florida does get their other star db back this week though, so they at least get one of their two starters back.

How did you get this from the comment above yours? The one that said that he didn't practice yesterday, and he's questionable. Also, knee injuries are tricky, and Hargreaves has one. So does their big 5 star freshman OT, for that matter.

Hargreaves won't cover Baker (if Hargreaves plays). Baker is a 6'3, 210#, sure handed freak athlete. He's likely going to cover Johnson, who scorched Florida last year.

Although some on here are a little touchy... great dialog! I for one appreciates all your insights. Good stuff!

Stoops believe that Ryan was on his way to a breakout season before he got hurt. His improvement this spring made him one of the most improved on the team. I think he has potential to be as good as UK has on the defensive side of the ball. Getting him and Hatcher this week could change the impact of this defense. I doubt Stoops takes Flannigan to Columbia if he did not think he was close to being ready. That move really violated Stoops rule that if you do not practice by Wednesday, you sit for the game. Ryan must be important and Stoops must really trust this LBer.

That said, I think Henderson has stepped up and is playing his best football right now. It has been fun to see him really engage like he has not in the past.

We did the first game... We spread it out nicely... The second game we ran the ball down the field several times, and ate up the clock doing it... We still have these receivers that we can go to and a QB that can get them the ball.... We have to attack in the SEC... We can't hold back waiting for the D to catch up with the offense.... Put as many points on the board as possible....

If only we actually threw it to them....

Never fails. This dude is miserable about everything.

No point in trying to talk sense into him. He's been to about 5 different threads and has cried in every single one of them. I just came from one where he was b****ing about "I'm not spending my hard earned money on a chrome t-shirt!", as if anybody asked him to in the first place. Also acts like our team should dress how he wants them to dress. He's just whiny, not much you can do about that.

Vernon Hargreaves is apparently in pads and practicing today for Florida.

On a positive note... I do like a few things about the offense though it's only two games in...
run-pass ratio seems really good...
WO corps isn't one dimensional and are making great catches....
I think the RB's & TE's haven't been tapped yet in the pass game so that bodes well....

I don't have a clue about Flannigan.... but Henderson's play has been a pleasant surprise.

These WOs are, mostly, sophs! Badet, Johnson, Baker, Bone ... And, Dawson said there are inside guys who have skill but just have not yet had the opportunity. We have not seen Montgomery or much of Williams. Snodgrass came on in the spring, but his next catch will be his first. Wow!

I also expect Flannigan to play. Henderson has been great these first 2 games, but as we saw last season we can't keep defensive guys out there 99% of the snaps or they will be done after 6 games. Wish we knew what was up with Walker.

And I also have no fear of Hargreaves playing, we don't depend on one wideout like USCjr with Cooper. Whoever he is covering dont throw that way; throw to the other 2 or 3 equally talented equally explosive receivers. as East Carolina showed, those other guys cant cover a floor if they were a rug.

We also have a tight end that we haven't used yet.... We haven't showed anyone what he can do yet.... So, I think Stoops is winning and still holding back a few surprises..... Now that I've seen the team, I can see exactly why Stoops has been so happy.... I don't think we've seen half of what were capable of yet... I think Stoops said, that we are better than what we've shown so far.....

^This. I think we're gonna see a break out by Conrad Saturday. First two games we used the hash to sideline. Florida is gonna key on that and spread the safeties out wide at the snap. Conrad will be so open in the middle he'll get lonely. I honestly think they've been saving Conrad for this game.

Who is covering who shouldn't make a ton of difference, IMO. In the USC game most of UKs throws were pretty short passes. A lot were out to the flats. Usually there isn't a corner covering someone on these plays. Usually this is done in a zone coverage and the other receivers block for the guy with the ball. That is where Florida corners will make a difference. Can they come off blocks and make an open field tackle?

From time to time the corners will be asked to cover those slant/post routes and some go routes, but UK will probably still lean heavily on what you might call an extended run game. Where UK needs to make a difference is when UF starts to key in on those short passes and go to more of a man defense then UK receivers needs to be able to beat UF and their very good corners deep.

Above all... when we need to go deep, can Towles get the time to do so?

Leg injury? Whoever Hargreaves is on, make him run complicated routes, or a straight to go route. Test that leg to the absolute maximum. I don't want him to get seriously hurt or anything, but let's find out if he's really 100%.

Conrad is going to be a special player for us in the future. He still has a ways to go though. I hope Florida plays press man. I don't care if they are Florida. Our receivers can go toe to toe with anyone in press man.

If Flannagan misses many more games, would it be a good idea to redshirt him if possible? It seems like the backups are doing a nice job, and while Flannagan is a stud, it would be nice to have senior linebacker leadership next year if he's not able to go the next few games. I'd rather have Flannagan at 100% next year than 65% this year. Khalid Henderson has been doing a remarkable job in his place and Jason Hatcher will return this week as well. Jordan Jones and Nicko Firrios will only get better with experience as well.

I think Flannigan will redshirt if he misses the first 4-6 games. Somewhere in there, you have to admit you are wasting your final year of eligibility. Kid wants to get paid. Hard to do that on a small sample size.

This. Stress that leg. Let him deal with it, or get off the field.
