Kennard Davis - Southern Illinois - Combo Guard 6-6 210 pounds.
Averaged 16.3 ppg / 4.9 rpg / 2.6 apg / 1.3 per game.

* Great in the pick and roll
* Very good post up scorer against smaller guards (6-6)
* 38% 3 point shooter (5.3 attempts / 2 makes per game)
* Was only a sophomore last year so has multi years remaining
* Can play the 1-4 positions because of his combination of size, strength, and quickness, is very versatile.

In Pope's system he would be the perfect 2G / SF who can also play on ball. Lots of things you could do with him and is still very young and will only get better.

I prefer two year guys over one-and-done portal players.

Also, it seems that mid-major studs usually need a year to adjust to SEC play. In their second year, they tend to reach their peak performance.

Just look at Mark Sears, Walter Clayton, Antonio Reeves...

Can't have enough portal threads. It's only second to actual games to me. I quite enjoy it.

To me this one would be very valuable, and could really contribute next year in multiple ways!
Imo i would take Davis over eaglestaff.
I would love to see Pope get a athletic combo SG/SF along with a combo SF/PF.

The fact he is a sophomore gives you a lot more upside potential then a 5th year SR!

Not to mention he can play the 1-4 positions. Obviously the 4 in small situations. But he is 6-6, can drive, great mid range game, and hits the 3 at a above average rate. His 5 rebounds per game suggest he can get in there with the bigs and mix it up. The nearly 3 assist per game shows he can and will find the open man, and the steals per game suggest he plays defense also. Looks like a solid 2 way player, think a little bigger, better shooter Oweh. He can fill in and play most all positions on the floor, very valuable for depth and filling in at most positions if someone needs a break or foul trouble, he can slide over to the next position. He played 34 minutes per game last year.
He had 11/5 against Florida this year, hitting 3/4 3s. Scored 22 against Drake hitting 4/7 3s, and Drake is very solid on defense and plays a slow pace. SIL only scored 65, and he had over 1/3 of them.
Last 5 games :
26/10
21/3/6
24/4/5
19/2/2
22/6/4 with 2 steals and a block

Other games of note :
@ Oklahoma State - 16/5/5
Louisiana Tech - 16/10/1 with 3 steals
EKU - 21/7/3 with 2 steals
Evansville - 19/10/2 with 2 steals
@Missouri State - 18/8/2
N. Iowa 24/10/2
Murray State - 20/7/2 with 2 steals and 26/10/1
Ill Chicago - 19/4/2 and 23/5/3
@Belmont 13/3/5 with 4 steals
Valpo - 21/3/6

Truth be known, I would bet Pope and many other big name coaches already are 80-90% finished with recruiting and know who they’re gonna get out of the portal. Might be a last piece they’re after or something, but these guys are about 9 steps ahead of where most people think.
