Another masterful Coaching Job by Coach Cal

You know, sometimes, just very rarely and occasionally, does the universe give back to those of us that really deserve it.

I count myself as one of those lucky people today. I guess I'm easily amused by things that apparently don't (or maybe shouldn't?) matter ?

I never needed John Calipari to come here to Kentucky and tell me what mattered as a Kentucky fan. Not the NBA draft nor as far as the SEC tournament is concerned. He was hired to WIN. Period. So he got off to the wrong start with me. I laugh at the ending and to see what fate will befall him in the NCAA tournament this year. I'll watch every second.

To those of us he labelled his "basketball Bennies" .... we know far more about basketball than he ever would like to admit we do. That's why we're critical of him and that's why we've been right about him and where he is at right this very instant.

Coach Rupp said : No coach has a monopoly on the knowledge of basketball.
There are no secrets in the game. The only secrets, if there are any, is good teaching of sound fundamentals,
Intelligent handling of men, a sound system of play, and the ability to instill in the boys a desire to win.

Cal loses at the buzzer again. Ones I can recall without looking

2011 Indiana
2014 Arkansas
2017 North Carolina
2024 LSU
2020 South Carolina
2019 LSU
2016 Texas A&M

Any others?

Maybe they are but they sure shouldn’t be. I don’t care how good your conference is, if your team is 8-11 and 5-9 against quad 1 teams, that is a losing record and should not get a NCAA bid.
They were 8-10 in the SEC. A whopping 2 games behind us in the standings. 7-4 after their terrible start. They have 5 quad 1 wins. Look, I don't like them and I'm certainly not pulling for Cal...but they absolutely should be in the tournament with that resume from this conference.

Another coaching clinic by Cal. Up 3 with 29 seconds to go and finds a way to lose by 3.

After fouling an OM player for an and-1 tying FT, Hogs gets bailed out of a traveling call with a foul and misses 2 straight FTs.

7 seconds to go and the Ole Miss shooter dribbles the ball up the entire court unchallenged and shoots over a token defensive effort for the winning 3 pointer.

It’s a crazy BB world with coach Cal…somebody oughta sell tickets.

GBB!

Merging this thread to protect Cal. Mods on a powertrip/some BS tonight
thanks for being on top of it, lakercat !

And I absolutely think Arkansas should be in the tournament this year, even if Thiero won't play a second for them in the game. They came through after finally coming awake playing us this year and played up to their ability. They're FAR more deserving of a bid than Indiana and UNC** or Ohio State or Xavier, or ... a lot of teams. They started to actually HANG in the SEC this year. I'll eat crow that they didn't fold after the Kentucky game. which is what I thought.

But Cal can't change his stripes. It's all out there for the world to see. Failing at Arkansas at exactly the things he was failing to do at Kentucky. Just good enough, but it isn't good enough. I'm glad Arkansas fans can debate that next year. It's over for him here.

All that talent. and they still lost. WELL, AT LEAST THESE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS DON'T MATTER. And I just love the total mindset and culture change underway with Coach Pope too. We got this year to finish polishing off !

Go Big Blue !

I stand on my opinion that teams with sub .500 records in their conference should not get an NCAA bid, regardless of how good the top teams of that conference perform.

Arkansas fans have convinced themselves that Cal has done a great job after an 0-5 start in conference. Who lost those first 5 games?
The Razorback fanbase is the only one dumb enough to buy Calipari’s BS.

Someone said here that Arkansas is a guaranteed in for the NCAA Tourney...

How? I know they beat us, but what else have they done in conference? Did they beat Auburn? They had 19 wins before the SECT. What am I missing here. Aren't they also down a star player from early in the season when they won some games?

Doesn't matter, but it just seems like the SEC has so many good teams that the 9 seed isn't or shouldn't be likely to make it.

We could very well lose tonight or tomorrow, but that doesn't change how asinine the take is by Cal.

Remember all the garbage he spewed about changing and rededicating and such, then he bolts and says he's going to do that at Arkansas, then he does the same things and the same things cost him the game today....

Did Arkansas hire him to not care about the SECT? That doesn't sound like the Razorbacks. I remember the NR teams and how their fans showed up to games. Maybe they were just desperate to get something at all going.

Is what it is I guess. Arkansas can't hide Cal.

Strong rumor in Nashville is that Texas will fire Terry and make a strong run for Cal.

Texas will get right past him, because Cal doesn't do zone.

Seriously, how would a team want a coach who doesn't care about possibly bursting his team's bubble with a mediocre showing in the conference tournament? It's not exactly shooting for the moon to go after Cal, so more power to them, and Arkansas will probably listen very carefully if they do call. But are there just not any good coaches out there in front of whom they could throw their loads of cash?

The bubble this year is incredibly weak. If you left Arkansas out you have to put even worse teams. Just one of those years.

I gotta be honest, no Boogie and no Adou this game was a whole lot closer than I thought it would be. Arky is actually playing pretty well, given who they are currently.
Yeah I thought they were dead with Adou out .

But they are scrappy and play hard . But like a lot of Cal teams they go through too many scoring droughts .

After Pedulla's three pointer I noticed the clock paused at 1.3 seconds allowing Arkansas enough time to inbound the ball and attempt a desperation shot. I thought it was a time keeping error, but no, it's the rule.

"In college basketball, the game clock stops after a made basket during the last minute of the game and any overtime period."

If Arkansas had a timeout left, Cal could have setup a final play.

LOLOLOL!!!!!!
I was told Arkansas has the highest paid roster in college basketball and the highest paid coaching staff ? Is this true ? I bet Brad Calipari is the highest paid dry erase board cleaner in the country. That’s all I’ve ever seen him do. Cal draws up play hands board to him and he cleans it and he’s pretty fast at it. Mister earned not given himself has an extra board behind his seat. Great preparation !
