Another game where an opponent shoots 10+ MORE Free Throws than we do

Alabama is 304 in scoring defense.
UK is 259 in scoring defense.

If poor defense generates fouls then why didn't Alabama have more fouls called on them, because their defense is worse than ours.

It is hard to play defense when the zebras call fouls for breathing hard on your opponent. Those of you who cannot grasp this simple fact are either so eaten up with your, tough guy, bootstrap bullshit, or you are a troll fan who is here to stir the pot.

That Oweh foul on the 3 was a weak ass call. We would never get that call.
Yep. Oweh was obviously hacked while shooting a three and nothing from the refs.

Alabama is 23rd nationally in FTr, Kentucky is 96th. Alabama is also 6th nationally in rim attempts, Kentucky is 59th. Strong correlation there.
This. Our style of play and limited ability by most of our players to create shots on their own limits our free throw attempts.

We are the ONLY SEC team that gets HOMERED at HOME!!!!!

It is getting RIDICULOUS!!!!

Hey Mitch, you need to say something to the league office about it NOW!!!!!
And to a team whose shot selection on the season is 48% three pointers. Bottom line - Oats played the referees like a fiddle today and Pope didn't.
You would expect this on the road, but to have the other team on your home court to shoot 14 more free throws than the home team, something's not right here. To out score a team by 8 points from the field on your home court you would figure the home team wins by 14 or 15 points. When the visiting team out scores the home team at the foul line by 13 points. That's not something you see very often.

Maybe SOME of it is we dont have a 2 guard or anyone off the bench that attacks the rim .. JR is no high flyer , Very much a finesse player , same with Brea , he wont get near the paint , so 2 of our top scorers dont ever get fouled , or rarely . That could skew the numbers some ,
That absolutely could skew the numbers some. Two of the biggest guns on the team rarely venture inside the 3 point line. If not for Butler consistently being in attack mode the numbers would be even worse.

I agree we don’t have enough guys who aggressively get to the rim. I watch Williams constantly try to lay the ball up at the rim instead of trying to dunk it, I think he’d get more fouls called for him if he would. That’s a big part of it for sure.

And we do seem to get beat off the bounce a lot. But I the are many examples in the game of Oweh and Buttler and one I know for sure of Brea driving to the rim getting fouled no call and Alabama getting the exact same “no call” called in their favor on the other end. I don’t believe we fouled anymore than Bama during the game, but teams that constantly drive the ball do seem to get rewarded with a tighter whistle in their favor.

We foul, a lot. We also don’t drive the ball to the rim much. Consequently, we don’t get fouled a lot. We aren’t very good defensively, therefore our opponents drive the ball right down our throats. Which leads to drawing a lot of fouls. All of that said, until the last two mins of yesterday’s game the discrepancy wasn’t bad. They shot at least a handful late with us trying to foul to put them on the line.

I thought there were a few wrong calls, but there's always a few. I don't think the refs were the problem here. The Georgia game--refs were a huge problem.

Sears and Nelson combined for 19 free throws. Nelson was eating our bigs alive. Sears is great at drawing fouls. They're more athletic and they go to the rim more than we do.

The thing is five games in and we are the ONLY SEC team this is happening to!!!!! I understand defensively we need to improve but are we worse than every single team in the league?
Actually, statistically, we ARE the worst defensive team in the SEC. Conversely, we are first offensively. Kind of a fun dynamic.

I agree- many teams just have more athletic players than we do and that leads to us out of position on defense

The teams with higher level talent/athleticism generally get the calls as the less athletic team can't stay with them on D.

Honestly the fact our super athletic and talented teams from prior years got the same bs ref treatment is more surprising to me. The outrage over officiating seems to be more on here this season and I think we all know why.

Very easy to explain Alabama was quicker at just about every position and they drive the ball on just about every possession which puts pressure on our slower players.

Our coach is going to have to make a decision as I’ve been saying all year to make this the best zone team he can make it Because if he doesn’t, we will continue to get in foul trouble plus allow the other team to shoot way more free throws than we do …now you can say well we can’t rebound out of the zone. Well, let me ask you how good are we rebounding playing man?
Rebound in a zone is the same as man go get the damn ball

That’s the biggest crock fallacy of all.

Zone rebounders already have inside position
