Am I the only one...

UK football is like an unrequited crush. I give them my attention, but as the season continues get the feeling that they aren't interested in it. Then a new girl comes on the scene (basketball), and gives a little smile. . . boom . . . she has my attention now. The best problem to have would be both vying for your attention, no? I give support where it's wanted/earned. It doesn't have as much to do with me as it does them. How much effort do you put into an uninterested girl?

With that logic, I've been crushed every year of my life with basketball, except for "78, "96, "98, "2012..
So, out of my 51 years on this earth, 47 out of 51 the basketball team has failed me, going by your logic.
HA! Comparing aggravation from football to basketball is hilarious. If you want to use your logic, you should just watch the last game each year. Fortunately, UK has an entire season...and football is unequivocally much more depressing.

Well our football team is on verge of turning corner. They are actually getting really football talent.

I hope we do turn it around. Would love to see the football team win a major bowl, the basketball team make the Final Four and the baseball team make the College World Series.

Throughout the country, Football is much more popular. Ky is among a handful of states that bball even approaches that sport. Over my 58 years, when we've had decent teams or the 1-2 really good Football teams I got the impression Ky fans were more into Football than bball.
There is a reason Football is more popular. We've just not had enough success to consistently draw fans. Since Football has failed so often, many Ky fans settled to be bball fans first.

The thing that pulled me to bball as a kid was the excitement of winning, not the sport itself. It didn't take long, after being introduced to Football, to recognize I simply liked the sport much better.

I like football much better, too, but I focus on my favorite NFL team and only really watch college games between juggernauts. I have no interest in Ohio State-Illinois, but I can watch Ohio State-Michigan. Same with Alabama-Vanderbilt vs. Alabama-Auburn. Competitive football games are exciting to watch.

...who just can't get into the football team unless they pull off a shocking win (see Louisville last year), and waits impatiently through September and October for basketball to start?

I know, I know. Blasphemy to some. But there's a ceiling with our football team, and that ceiling doesn't include a bowl that moves the needle, as Cal would say. There are just too many juggernauts in our way.

You probably aren't the only one. There are possibly several other just like you. Thankfully, only several.[banana]

I'm a diehard UK football fan just as I am for basetball, and I haven't been this pumped about our team in a long time. It's a fantastic time to cheer for Kentucky football. Hop on now before this train gets moving too fast.

Being a graduate of both FSU and uk I keep up with uk football but not like I am with FSU football just like I live for uk basketball. I love college football though best time of year until March then the second best time of year.

I think this is part of it....I went to UK. If I hadn't, I still would have been a UK basketball fan. But I wouldn't give a damn about the football team. Since I did go there, I want them to do well. But to me the best part about UK football is that it means UK basketball is two months away.

The tailgating scene at UK lends one to believe we're just like every "football school" in the country. The atmosphere is awesome.

Right, wrong or indifferent if UK starts having top 20 teams with contentions for BCS bowls each year, basketball will become an afterthought. This irks a lot of the "basketball-only" fans, but it's the nature of football--especially being in the SEC. The day we beat Florida will be a "dark day" for some fans, and I think that's both sad and hilarious at the same time. Their tears will be delicious ..and I say this as a UK bball fan.

I like uk football, I keep up with the team but I Love the noles and I love uk basketball those are my passions for sports teams, and I don't consider it bandwagon when I've been a fan my whole 35 years

Because some fans root for Kentucky basketball because they are successful, and it is a positive part in their life. A sense of pride. The football team usually isn't, so they don't put a lot into them. If U.K. Basketball went 8-10 years without going to a tournament or leaving the first round, a lot of fans would be gone.
Don't fool yourself.

Well said........I got excited every summer for 40 yrs. This is going to be the year........yada, yada, yada. Stoops looks to be heading in the right direction. It will take a win against FLA or TENN to get me excited about football.

As if that means anything. [laughing] Expand your horizons. The basketball forum on here who answered in this thread isn't representative of the overall fanbase.
Actually it is. It answers the question. The amount of threads on the football forum vs basketball forum tells what the fans support.
If you follow both great. But most fans only care about basketball and cheer other sports when they are doing well.

i root for both with all my heart
i always thought every true UK fan did

If UK has to play football, I hope they win but I sure hope I am not forced to watch the game. I will watch every second of UK basketball win or lose, real game or practice but I have no interest in the football team and really don't care if they never play a football game.

I understand how you feel. I'm just the opposite. I would watch any two college Football teams play Football before I'd watch any two teams play basketball, except possibly a final four or nc game. in fact, I'd probably read a book, watch some HGTV, WWE or Naked and Afraid as opposed to suffering through a bball game. I'll pull for Ky in bball when it counts. If they win the NC, I'll enjoy it just as much as anyone.

He is talking uk football specifically. His disrespect is so deep I do t consider him a fan at all.

The one where we had 35 players suspended? That was a meaningless bowl game in the most decade of FSU football. Big win for uk though at the time. I would love for uk and fsu to get together now that would be fun.

I can tell you dont follow UK football. We will have a very good team this year. Dont worry there is plenty of room for you on the bandwagon after we win 8 plus games this year.

As much as I wish it were true, we won't be winning 8 games this year. I don't think we've won 8 games more than once in the last 30 years ?

We played to the level of our competition.
