Not surprised. He was one of the bigger busts in the transfer portal last year. Uconn might have blown their wad.

Folks need to relax. Very few of these guys push teams to the next level, and you have just as many like this that tank their team's season.

Mahaney, Storr, Griffin, and many others were top transfers last year who went to top teams and really struggled with some good coaches. That’s one of the reasons I’m glad our coaching staff is selective and looking more for fit. Taking all the best doesn’t mean you will improve the team. Similar to Cal taking all the best available athletes and then they don’t fit or too many are one dimensional. If I had to say what coaches philosophy is I would describe it as player movement, ball movement, and everyone being a threat to shoot well. Now that he is at UK and not BYU the talent level available to him will be better so he will change some I’m sure. Defense wasn’t a top priority at BYU but it has to be here in the SEC. I mean we beat most of the top teams we played this year with a last minute roster and tons of injuries. What can we do with better freshmen and hitting the portal day one? We can all dissect it once the roster is set but I imagine we will be even more excited to start the season than we were last year
Remember that Johnell Davis was the best player in the portal last year and he was a big bust
Actually, he wasn’t. He injured his wrist falling off a golf cart and it took awhile to heal. Then once Boogie Fland went down, he was able to play more freely and had a good finish to his season
I think that saved their season honestly.

Be interesting to see the comments on this board when we lost this kid to UConn last year. I doubt anyone had anything negative to say about Pope or about our future prospects. Heh
