Aaron torres "multiple sources think kentucky may be on top for nate ament " but

Of course it would be good if UK had some continuity with at least 7-8 returning players every year but I'm not sure you can do that with 5-star recruits. Most 5 star recruits expect to start and are NBA players a year later if they do start(and maybe if they don't start). At least the ones from out of state that don't start and aren't draft picks are now more likely to transfer than return.

In my opinion, UK shouldn't recruit five stars not from Kentucky unless our coaches expect them to start. I'm thinking if UK doesn't sign any more five star recruits they'll still have 1 or 2 freshman starters. I really don't want to go back to seeing 3 or more freshmen starting. Maybe I'll change my mind if Duke wins it all this year to "it don't matter at all" but for now I'd rather sign a big time portal player at the wing instead of another freshman.
A la Mashburn, Wall, AD, etc...
The game has shifted due to the availability of players in the portal. There's only a handful of freshmen who can be significant difference makers.
The rest of freshmen are role players and development pieces to build continuity. They may improve and their roles roles significantly increase but teams have needs which most freshmen aren't ready to provide.

UK would be top 5 next year if they added Green and Ament this Spring.

Oweh, Ament, Johnson, and Green give you four all-SEC level players.

I'm 50-75% in agreement with you. Don't feel bad; most people don't score that well...

I would like UK having all four of those guys. But those four players can't be four starters on next season's team - and an All-SEC player is usually a starter, right?

Watched some Holy Cross highlights, Green is not currently ready for SEC starting lineup. I think our Freshmen are better than him. Athleticism of the competition level is dramatically different. He might be. 2 or 3 year development player, I don’t believe he is anywhere near SEC starter level.

His dad is best friends with Hart and by all accounts has a good relationship with the son. Doesn’t mean we will end up getting him, only that this one may be different because of that. He is a Hell of a player. Plays like Lewis, but quicker and better bounce/athleticism.
I’ll be surprised if Hart is still here when Crowe gets to college. Hope so , but he’s going to have opportunities.

How good is Ament at handling the ball?

If he is good at dribbling, he could very easily fit in as a 3. We could get him and a solid player at the 4 from the portal. A potential starting lineup could be something like this:

Johnson
Oweh
Ament
4 from portal
Garrison

On the flipside, Ament might not see himself competing with any incoming 4's for Duke or Louisville. Nipple's status might be more a concern for Ament than Boozer's if PT at a specific position is an issue, for example.

Garrison just doesn't have it, not if we want to try and win the SEC and make a FF. The portal is the only hope if we're going to be better than this year.

Sure. Slide in a portal 5 or Moreno into the position.

The point was that Ament and a portal 4 from our collective fantasy aren't mutually exclusive. They could start on the court at the same time.

They should start at the same time. Nate is a wing, not a PF. He plays one in HS because of his height. He would get mugged in the low post weighing 200lbs against other seasoned SEC PF’s. He might get away with it for short stints if we go small, but he would get physically assaulted for any long stretches. His handles have gotten progressively better and with the threat of his potent 3pt shooting, one head facke and he can get down hill to the rim.

heard that trilly Donovan said Garrison wasn't going to return next season I don't have his discord so I couldn't verify it

Whenever I think of Cal and him trying to get in on everything that Pope does:

GIF by KQEDScience
No he doesn't. He was a top recruiter when Pope was still shitting yellow. And no that is not a dig at Pope, Cal's strength is landing top elite high school players, he will try to be in on every top guy, not just the ones Pope is on. I am glad he is gone, but stop the pettiness and making stuff up.

Somebody had to say it. The CDS has resulted in people just straight up lying. We now have a social protocol to pretend the man is literal Satan and he literally was incapable of doing anything good.

I just do not see Duke getting him. They have the Boozer twins and other front court players. He is a focal point for Pope, I would be shocked if Duke is the team, Louisville, maybe. I truly think UK gets him in the end.

$$$ talks - pay this superstar whatever he wants to seal the deal
just don't see how Pope can spend a ton on this guy and others are getting less
this has to v=create jealousy, just as it does in the work place

Tipton reporting that he thinks louisville will get him

Look, I can’t stand anything UL and I sure as hell hope they strike out with Nate. But, if they do in fact get him to go along with Mikel Brown along with who they have returning? They’re gonna be a really good, well coached team. I hate to admit that Kelsey has them rolling and doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all. If Ament does go to UL, we are gonna have to win BIG in the portal to hold serve. Gotta fight like crazy to stay out in front of this rivalry!!!

IF a kid has a bigger NIL offer to go to Kentucky(like has been reported) and has real interest in going to Duke…he’s not going to Louisville.

Now if the UL NIL comes over the top by a considerable gap over Duke and UK. Sure, guy could be a Cardinal.

Louisville will continue to be good as they’ll have one of the top NIL situations in the sport regardless of this one recruiting decision.

I know UL is listed with all the top recruits. It seems they are doing something right
Yep and a few guys, namely Joe Tipton, reported yesterday that UL actually leads for Nate. I don’t even want to entertain the thought of losing Top 5 rated recruits to effin UL!!

So you’ve read that we’ve offered a bigger NIL DEAL than UL or Duke? If so, I’d be much more positive about our chances here. Apparently this is the biggest factor in his recruitment.

In the past 15 seasons, we’ve played UL 17 times and they have two wins. Through those same number of games we are 8-9 vs KU. 8-9 vs Duke. 12-5 vs Florida. 12-5 vs IU. 8-9 vs UNC. 9-8 vs UT.
There are rivals to worry about. UL isn’t one of them.

Rick Pitino has said he's not even going to recruit high school kids at all, that they are a bad bargain when highly talented and highly experienced players exist in the portal. Sign men, not boys.

And yet Kentucky is supposed to "worry" if one high school kid signs with Louisville?

I'm fine with Kentucky signing Ament, as long as the cost doesn't become ridiculous, which it very well may. But the Cats have several high school kids coming in next year already. For the remaining team slots, I'm more interested in Kentucky signing 3 or 4 of the very best players available in the portal. Setting aside Cooper Flagg, I'm not sure how many freshman I'd rather have than Butler, Robinson, Williams, Carr, Brea and so on. And while I believe he's a good player, he's not Flagg.

After Calipari's last five years, in which Kentucky continued to have top rated freshman classes as the game was rapidly changing to favor experienced portal players, I'm finished with celebrating Big Recruiting Wins.

I have a couple of UofL fan friends/coworkers who were celebrating UofL being back because they were rolling through the ACC and were a projected 7 seed. They were high fiving each other over a 7 seed. We’d be ticked off if we were a projected 7 seed even with all of our injuries.

Speaks volumes about the two fan bases, IMHO.

Who cares.... Let him to to UL we will be just fine... Some of you sky is falling is comical.
I care because of what we just watched when we played Texas. Tre Johnson, a freshman, put 32pts on our heads and led his team to the win. Just one example of why you and I should both care about landing top 5 recruits! For the most part I think that recruiting high schoolers isn’t that big of a deal but when we are recruiting top 5 caliber guys like this guy, it matters a lot!
