Yes, but other teams don't have a coach with one of the most fragile egos on earth who turns on the fans for simply expecting him to be competent. Poor guy has to run out and ask all his buddies to defend him online. It's gross.

I don't understand people referring to themselves as UK fans, but root for other schools in football. That would be like me rooting for Duke over UK in basketball.

I am that. Not so much football. I pull for UK football but it is just because I am from Kentucky and attended UK. I mean they will win 1 or maybe 2 SEC games this year. Do you really think they will challenge for anything above 10th place in the league.
I just happened to see Bear Bryant at a young age and he was getting so much attention that I started being an Alabama fan. 60 years later and, I am still a fan. I am not asking anyone else to be.
I have secondary teams I like. My favorite being the 1950 USF Dons (when they had a fb program). Always UK first

Maybe the most stupid post I've seen and that says a whole lot. There are no better fans than UK fans! Yes, we can be tough on bad coaches, 1 and done players who care nothing about Kentucky, etc. But there are no fans more passionate or devoted. I got a message from Bob Arroyo who used to be in the group and is close to Cal and followed him to Arkansas.
He sent me a message about this tweet from TyTy Washington. - “Coach Cal understands it now“
He said that is was pretty much the same message most of Cals former players were sending Cal privately.
While they all know BBN has some great fans and some True fans that support you Win or lose there is a large portion of the fan base that want to act like True fans but just support you if you are winning. These are not true fans. They are fair weather fans. They are bandwagon fans. They are fans with no lives. Thus are fans that have nothing but UK basketball in their lives and if UK loses you don’t want to be in their households. Wives and kids are probably beaten.
But TyTy sent the message to tell Cal what many of the players already knew. The fans don’t care about them. They only care about winning a championship so they can boast and brag to a coupe of the few friends they actually have or they can troll social media now.
This was made obvious also by tweets from AD and MKG and Darius Miller another Kentucky boy and all on a championship team and all congratulating Cal and then the fans turned on them. Calling them traitors. Saying they should never come to Rupp again. Calling Miller a Benedict Arnold.
Again this is known in the high school ranks and AAU circuit and all over college basketball. It was a reason no top coach wanted the job

Just ask any player before Cal (except maybe Rex) what they think about BBN. I'm confident the responses will not align with this drivel in the original poster's post. Not saying some have not had a negative encounter, but they wouldn't make a public statement on it because how much in the minority those encounters would be, and they truly act appreciative of the positives of being a part of BBN. I was not going to click and even read that hit piece after reading his nonsense and what others commented about that trash.
BTW, I acknowledge that some bad things are posted on here and social media and that some of that are by people who really profess to be fans (a lot are trolls), but that small percent of posts should not overshadow all of the positives. If a player can't understand and handle that, then he needs to go to North Dakota State or similar because he'll encounter this at any big-time school. It's just magnified at UK because of not only the size of BBN, but because of those out there from other fanbases and media who will stoop to this level due to their envy/hatred of KENTUCKY basketball and their fans.
Every fanbase has its share of those "fans". Every. Single. One. Doesn't make it right, but doesn't make UK any different either. We just have more because we're bigger than most fanbases.

I'm a fan of UK, the fact that players are being paid now changes everything for me.

The OP says that former players say we don't care about them. Do the former players care about us Kentucky fans? I remember a few years ago we had a player that was on our team for a semester and never played. We had a couple of players hurt that year and he still didn't play because he didn't care what happened because he was going to the NBA after 1 semester. Cal knew Sharpe wasn't ever going to play and was fine with it. How do you get to know someone when all the players go to the NBA after 1 year? Does that mean they don't care about the University of Kentucky or Kentucky fans.
We should care for our former players as fans. We should support them and remind that we are not only the biggest fanbase but the best fanbase. Not everyone will love it here and i suspect some will be upset despite our efforts but I believe giving up on symbiosis will result in players not wanting to be here as much. Those of us who are supportive need to be as loud as those who are bandwagoners. That’s my opinion on it
There's a small kernel of truth here about fans contacting players/coaches/relatives on social media, but the tone is a little too hyperbolic to be taken completely seriously. It was also posted on a very-pro Cal facebook page.
We do have some absolutely awful online fans and it's amplified because our fanbase is so big. I usually try to avoid social media after losses because our lunatic fringe will be out in force eating their own. We might have more nutjobs than other fanbases, but percentage wise it's probably closer to even.
With that said, I do firmly believe grown adults who get so upset over UK basketball that they attempt to contact players, recruits, coaches or players'/recurits'/coaches' relatives on social media are losers. That's taking what should be a hobby a little bit too seriously and seems a little insane to me.
