8th place in SEC?

I think we're all hopeful based on last night. But at the end of the day it was Wright St. and there are currently 9 ranked teams in the SEC. And keep in mind 8th place doesn't mean what it used to now that the conference has 16 teams in it.

I'm still withholding any judgement on this team until we play some real competition.

Time will tell. You have to remember this is based on experts' opinions. I have no idea what makes someone and expert at trying to guess what a team's record will be. Seeing last night's game makes me feel pretty confident we will have a very successful season. I definitely feel confident this coaching staff can give us a deep run in March.

I may have overreacted some based on last night .

But even before this I was kind of higher than the public opinion on us . I think this team being very experienced will take us a long way .

This is a good experienced bunch . They to me have a better shot at making noise over the inexperienced teams we have had in the past and those teams were never expected to finish 8th in the SEC

Experts schmexperts. Not even the talking heads know how teams will fare from match up to match up. Especially a match up like UK where they have no sample size data to properly evaluate their claims.

I believe many of these clowns are just assuming we'll be BYU redux, or see Pope's average win/loss record as a HC as some kind of rationale for their claims that we aren't going to be much to worry about.

By January 1 I think we'll know a lot more about this team. There are three options - they do better than anyone expected, they do about what everyone expected (average rebuild but decent), or they do worse than anyone expected. I'm of the belief that it'll be better than most expect, teetering on possibly creeping into the "about what we expect". The only way we do worse is if we are plagued with unlucky injuries. The way we do better? Lean on this experience and execute on both offense and defense, even against the more athletic and physical teams we will indeed be facing.

Experts are all phonies. Just look at most experts saying who will win each game whether it is football or basketball. Most of them predict wrong. It is no more than talking heads installed to create drama and entertainment. Are you entertained?

I know it was Wright State we played but it was not the score I was really watching. I was more into the "how" we won.
Some would argue that past UK teams would not have won this big and some would say yes they would have. I just remember the last few years not having that feeling going into a game where I felt UK would blow someone out always waiting for that 6-7 minute stretch where we just crapped the bed without scoring or letting some unknown go off on us for 30 points.

The few mistakes I did see should correct themselves when this group gets more playing time together. I wasn't completely sold on the Williams kid but last night he showed me much more than I have seen and think he will be a player others will have to deal with.

Garrison worried me a little; seemed to want to take a shot when there was a better option. Hopefully that was a nothing burger.
Butler is a dog. You just have a good feeling that he is going to make a play.
Oweh is going to be a really good player for us. Seems sneaky.

I like the Koby Brea kid. When he shoots you have that feeling it's going in.
Robinson reminds me a a Kansas type player. Solid all over. Glad he is a Cat.
I could go on and on but everyone knows what they see.

This team could easily get down 15 points to Alabama, Gonzaga but with these shooters, hell Brea could hit four 3's real quick and just like that, you're right back in it.

What was nice for me was watching kids play without expectations like we had in the past where you are always judging what they did by what the expects rated them. More times than not we asked who gave this kid 5 stars.

Now for the part some will disagree with me and that is OK. What this old fart really like was how every damn one of our coaches were in a suit and tie. The old Adolph days. UK is first class and I liked how our coaches looked. Not saying they need to wear them all the time but it sure looked better then that look we had lately with Cal.
There were times when Cal looked like a slob. Maybe it was how his clothed didn't seem to fit at times, but I sure liked the shirt and tie look we had last night.
You look the part, you play the part.

I know last night was a small sample size of UK and the league, but I just don’t see this team finishing 8th (I get it’s espns prediction, but still).

Really think this team will be competing for one of the top 4 spots by year end.
We have no idea. Most teams crush their first opponent when that opponent isn’t worth a damn

The experts are being ultra conservative with this team and I can’t blame them. New coach with a team that was thrown together. No returning production. Historically it doesn’t bode well.

I love what I see and I &think it’s much better than we could have hoped for. Most analysts will wait for the Duke game to really form their opinion.

If this is the 8th best team in the SEC it's going to be the best league it has ever been. TAM lost so we're probably going to jump them. Just win and everything else will take care of itself.

UK should finish within the Top 5. Kentucky usually ranks higher in previous years and that was with new teams practically every year. With a better coach for a new team, they will be just fine and surprise many of these people. They should pass up Arkansas & A&M. Top 5 IMO, no particular order UK, Bama, Tennessee, Auburn & Ole Miss with Beard in year 2 returning 3 of their Top 4 scorers from a year ago. Dre Davis coming in.

I think most people do. Obviously we need to see some games and how the other teams look but I’d be surprised if we are not top 4 and seriously make a run at the top at some point late in the year.

Alabama and Auburn look good ,but so do we. Need to see this team play on the road before I can make an SEC prediction.
