Boysssss it’s gonna be a long season…

But no complaining from me. Just stating the obvious. We don’t have SEC talent or athleticism. Slow footed. I don’t worry about the offense, although it could struggle against top tier competition as well, but the defense is where we are gonna struggle. And rebounding. But I’ll take a year or 2 of pope getting his players in place over another year of Cows 1 and done early round exits.
It could very well be a long season...from now until April.

I’m not ready to completely change my opening opinion, but I am ready to retract on 1 small part of it. Kerr Krissa showed me some defense intensity and ability to stay in front of the ball lastnight. Koby brea showed a little better defense as well. So i will go against my thread title and say that it will not be a long season anymore, however until I see us against duke i still think there’s a chance we could be overwhelmed by superior athleticism. Once again, hope I’m wrong tho lol

Did anyone else watch the Puke game last night? I was able to split screen their game with ours and watched the first half that way.
I didn't really see any eye popping athleticism by Puke. They have really good shooters and some size. But i wasn't wowed. in a lot of ways they reminded me of UK. They have shooters yes. I think our shooters are on par with them. Flagg is good but we can defend against him.
Their rebounding was better than ours in a 1 game comparison but not by much. I just think they blocked out better.

We might struggle with quick guards who can penetrate or super high level bigs but I didn't see any of those bigs on their team. based on 1 game, we should be very competitive with them in my opinion.

I think we can all understand that there is a small sample size to go on as far as how to feel about our chances this year. Realistically, I think the rest of the country and sportswriters look at Kentucky's schedule and see it's brutally tough. And in Pope
's first year, expectations are low with an entirely new roster on the floor together for the first time....

But I think it's fooling a lot of people. On the surface, it would seem to be bad news for Kentucky's outlook this year. But underneath the surface of it all .....

This team was handpicked as a roster to be complimentary of each other in ways where the raw talent of one and done coaching philosophy has been left behind for a more balanced & experienced roster approach, with a focus on spreading the floor with a modern style gameplan, getting back to the basics. Study game film, scout the teams. Work hard.

This team has great hands, from bigs to small. Williams, Butler, and Oweh are a trio that will lead us to many wins. Robinson is a drop dead shooter. So many weapons and players that can make shots. It's unlike the less talented in the shooting department Kentucky teams of Cal's era. These guys got handles, and can shoot well as a team. We have some decent size too. I think we're going to be in the mix of a top ten team all year long, once we get in the top ten. I love the idea of earning it as we go along, too. We will !

And we have experience. For me, that is the key. Mark it down now, I say this ....

We're going to destroy Bucknell. These Cats got a chip on their shoulder. They are hungry young men. They want to exceed these low expectations.

We are going to beat this young dUKe team too.

Then kick back and watch what they say about Kentucky. I'm quietly confident in this team. And maybe ... not so quiet?!

Go Big Blue !

I agree. I didn't see the entire game, but from what I saw, they are very similar to us. It's going to be a really good game. I don't expect either team to run away with it. Whoever wants it more will win it. And I believe we already want it more than they do.

I'm taking Kentucky in the "upset?"

not an upset in my book.

we shall see

Run back to your hole now.

How do you feel now?

I have already came back to eat my crow, actually did it last week lol but doing it again tonight. The first half defense was atrocious, anyone with any set of working eyes would be able to see that. Straight line drive after straight line drive. But the 2nd half they showed the fight that I would expect to see of a mark pope team coaching for his beloved Cats.

We got punched in the mouth. We responded. All you can hope for.

Well I remember it like it was yesterday. If there’s a way to go back and look at threads from 15 years ago then be my guest and go prove me wrong
How do you remember? You didn't join til January of 2021? Asking for a friend?

Isn’t the “asking for a friend thing” just when you being self-deprecating and/or coy? Why say it when you just straight up wanna call someone out? Asking for myself.

Hey cannot get on anyone before the season predicting either way. Many had feelings both ways. This team is tough, smart, good to above average athletes (not great jumpers on the team except maybe Oweh, Chandler and possibly Robinson. Anyway I like what I see right now. Coaches have been impressive as well. Keep it up CATS!!!

And anyone who has ever watched or played sports before knows the season outcome is not determined the first week of the season. Grow a pair.

After our first upset loss this season some fans will fall off the bandwagon again and claim we don't have enough talent and Pope's system can't work here.

You can bet on that.

I’ve tried to watch some non-UK games, and have seen some of the preseason top teams. Not really seeing anyone who is head over heels better than the rest. Not saying we won’t struggle against certain styles/teams, but I’m comfortable with this UK squad. I think we should have a good season.

Trash-level thread.

Congrats on that.
