Pope said in his presser today he's pushing for 40 games before postseason play starts (albeit some of those games could be additional preseason contests). His reasons:
  1. With all the player movement right now you'll put out a better product if you have more games to get better
  2. Players are better prepared for long professional seasons
  3. Helpful for NIL purposes
  4. Makes it easier to sign up for MTEs like Maui
  5. Other college sports do it so it shouldn't be overly demanding academically
Here's the link to the KSR post discussing it

I'm for it, anything that gives me more UK basketball is a step in the right direction in my opinion. I've often wondered why the NBA is so much longer than than CBB. It's probably a money thing, but now that CBB is basically semi-pro we may as well expand the season too.

I'm MUCH more in favor of adding regular season games than expanding the NCAA tournament.

A lot of you likely will shut this down but I'd be highly interested in an "Elite 4 Best of 3"

Start every season off with the Blue Blood Classic.

UK
UNC
Duke
Kansas
UCLA
UConn
Michigan State
Arizona (or rotate the 8th spot)

Play it like an Elite Eight tournament. Losers in each bracket play each other.

You need 8 teams, so you "they're not a blue blood" purists will just have to bear with me.

Arizona? They have won one title. I guess you are leaving UL or IU out for obvious reasons.
You've got to have 8 teams, man. Think about it. I understand the purist response, but it's either them or one of the teams you mentioned, or Gonzaga.

I’d rather see a standard double elimination after you get it to the elite 8 (or Final 4) rather than a best of 3. I still want the chance for an upset to mean something and if you go into the losers bracket in the elite 8…it forces you to ultimately play more games back tk back to climb out and makes it an uphill battle…but you’ve still got a shot if you’re a dominant team like 2010 or 2015 UK for a single misstep.

Hate series tho. It’s why the NFL playoffs and March madness are wildly more popular than the NBA playoffs until the finals. Baseball is a chess match w pitching etc and so unpredictable so you need a series to get a fair judgement of teams.

This is all for fun tho bc they’ll never change it. It takes away from the Cinderella story and that’s a big part of the March madness sales pitch. Crazy enough when a George mason/FAU makes the final 4 and there is “hope”… a double elim basically caps the reality of how far a Cinderella can go

Well, they are ostensibly still students, requiring them to do classes and whatever. Yeah, trust me, I know but still the NBA goes 7 months with no breaks. NIL or no, it's just not the same thing. Not snarking, just saying that's my take.
