Who do we have returning? What qb out there will the cats try to go after transfer wise? Just trying to see what we have coming back .

I believe everyone but JJ Weaver can return on defense next season.

On offense we lose Leary, Davis, Tavion Robinson, Eli Cox, Cummings and Horsey for sure. I also believe Coach Stoops said that Marques Cox and Flax have a Covid year if they want it.

Outlook for 2024 looking like:

shit-poop.gif

You could put Tom Brady in his prime at QB in a Stoops offense and he’ll struggle. Until we change our conservative mindset on both sides of the ball nothing will change.

We will beat the cupcakes and the rebuilding teams in the league and get our brains beat in by the big boys. I’ve read this book before.

To be honest…they’ll maybe can Buffano snd or Yenser/Woodard and try to sell some bulljive

But in year 11 we have done all the offense re tooling you can…for Coen

Defense has eons of experience guys and White is high paid snd in place for years

This is Stoops ….all he csn sale now is wait on Bolley snd Saunders. But it’s a bleak picture for sure today.

Why Mitch does his lifetime contract nonsense is beyond me. We’re tied to Stoops thru 2031 for 9M. Unreal

We play six teams that will top 25, three of those will more than likely be top 10 by the time we play them. At UT, at UF, at Ole Miss, at Texas then Auburn and UGA at home. Hate to say it but we’re going to have to beat UL at home to pull out six wins, that’s counting home wins vs SC and Vandy. I think we’ve seen our best days under this staff, we may see 7-8 wins occasionally but we’ll probably see the rapture before we ever see those 9-10 win seasons again.

The 2018 9 regular season wins will be the high water mark for this program under CMS. That team dropped clunkers to a terrible Tennessee team and a mediocre Texas AM with absolute offensive no shows in both. They also no showed against MTSU. So what SHOULD have been an 11 win season was almost an 8 win season, and we act like CMS is some history maker.

Last three games of the season and on the road against Tenn, Ole Miss and Texas. That is insane. The conference should not do that to any team.

You’re right we are but when fans stop showing up they’ll have to do something. It looked like the stadium was 35-40% crimson yesterday. It appears it’s already beginning.

Lots of sophomores starting for and playing significant time for the Cats. Lose some very talented players, too, but a solid core of returning players. Can't go after anyone until they enter the portal, iirc.

No experience returning at QB and maybe ILB. Safety position also may be a little thin. OL and specifically OT will also be thin. I need to look at the roster in more detail. These are just shooting from the hip

Was thinking about it, might be a good year to bring Boley around slowly. Start Sheron but work Boley in so he feels comfortable mid season then turn him loose. We’d like to see two years separation between him and Saunders anyhow and that would do it. Only drawback would be the effects of the final three games both mentally and physically.

It seems weird to be afraid of Florida and Auburn in that schedule. Auburn has wins against Ms St, Vandy, and Arkansas this year. We would have home games against Louisville and South Carolina also.

Ole Miss beat A&M, Auburn, and LSU this year. It may be their high water mark as a program too. There's a ton of change that will occur between now and next August. Also, I think our fortunes will be massively impacted by the outcome of the next two games.

Wash, rinse, repeat. We'll go shopping the portal for a QB, OT (or 2), help at LB and DB/S. We'll beat the OOC we should and get scorched by the good teams who LOVE passive zone defense. Will struggle to get to 7 wins, will lose at least one game we shouldn't, will look woefully unprepared in 2+ games, will still not be able to solve UT's offense, will lose/play poorly after the bye week, etc.

Not calling for Stoops' job as he's done a wonderful job getting us to this point. But, the schemes on both sides need to change, imo. Not wholesale but philosophically. Especially defensively, we're way too passive for the talent level we have. We need to create turnovers, TFL, sacks, havoc plays and QB pressures. Rushing 3 or 4 and sitting in zone is not getting it done. On offense, we need be more aggressive taking what the D is giving (see: 30+ yard pass to Bates and then never running that play again), putting our foot on the opponent's throat when we have a comfortable lead instead of going 4-corners, be more creative with the running game in game situations, etc.

We can, I believe, be a solid 8+ win per year program. But, changes need to be made. Otherwise, we'll struggle to be >.500, imo.

Teams we should beat:
Akron, Ohio, Murray St, Vandy, SC

Teams we can beat (but can doesn't always equal will):

UL, Florida, Ole Miss

Teams that are on another level and won't be ready for:

UGA, Texas

Wild card teams I can't call (meaning I wouldn't be surprised if we beat them or if they ran us out of the stadium):

UT, Auburn

Vols blow us out last year, we keep it close this year.

Auburn is still kind of rebuilding, but pretty much have same record as us losing to mostly good, ranked teams with one surprise loss.

Freeze and Huepel are offensive guys who can light up a score board which is the kryptonite to CMS' play FG and defense which is fine with leads against lesser opponents that lack offensive pop.

Historically his squads will not win once a comparable and obviously better team with some offense take a lead.

See UT down the stretch with a lead...he kept playing for FGs and D. Mizzou popped off in the second quarter and it was over. His game plans, mindset, philosophy just aren't built to come back against offensive oriented teams.

More of the same.

This whole team is really young, almost all fresh and soph, but the talent level is questionable. Then you have to wonder how many we loose to transfers. I think it could be quite a few. Next years schedule is ugly too.

If Stoops doesn't hit it big in the portal it is going to be a very rough season.

Not the case, The teams have been selected but the dates haven't been scheuled yet. If you're going by the FBS schedule website, Notice all of the conference games have Date TBA by them. Louisville will still be the last game of the season. and it looks like the other OOC games will be spread out next year as well instead of all up front. I prefer that.

One less win than this year if UK develops a QB. Since Stoops appears to not be able to do this, next season could be the nightmare season.

Yeah, thinking along the line of what we’re losing on offense next year vs how improved they’ll be. We lose our two best linemen in what had been our weakest unit plus Davis and probably Leary. I hope we can do well in the portal but those guys are hard to replace. Auburn’s not going to be down very much longer with Freeze and their resources and UF’s a road game and you just don’t know how they’ll play with all that talent. It’s just a really tough schedule imo but you never know.

Not a bad returning group, hit the portal for O line and a play maker or 2,3,4.

All depends on what we do in the portal on offense. QB and RB massive losses. Need to find one of each. Need depth at wr and RB.

If we come up dry in the portal, it could be a very, very tough year. We probably need a home run performance in the portal to get bowl eligible.

This is an underclassmen heavy team. A couple great portal pickups and we could improve a lot.

It will be even younger next year. The main talent will be 1st and 2nd yr players

Will depend on the portal but 7 wins is probably the ceiling. We missed our chance last year to have a special season. Hopefully boley or sanders is the real deal. That will go a long way for this program

Usually a lot of good QB’s and RB’s in the portal every yr. If you aren’t starting/ featured , you’re looking …and teams can only start one . Plus , NIL can lure anyone …and mid-major players that overachieve that want to step up to power 5

Couldnt Leary come back for one more year if he wanted too? Seems like I have seen that said somewhere.
