2020 Baseball/Softball Media Day

Ming said a bunch of preliminary stuff. To the meat:

Thinks the team will be much more experienced this year. We only had 2 returning players in 2019 with over 80 at bats. There are a lot more in 2020, but I can't remember the exact number.

Said we lost 7 league games by a run or two. So, feels like we were close.

Will have team speed.

Pitching mentality is changing and Roszell wants them to be 'the tip of the spear.'

0 pitching seniors. Just 6 total seniors.

Ramsey's body is much better and has changed dramatically. Swing and miss slider and a changeup now.

Hazelwood dramatically better.

Two Fresh: Stupp and Lee have been impressive.

Jordan staying with basketball until season ends. Throws bullpens once a week.

Collett, Shelby, and Curtis getting praise as seniors.

Schultz - Suffered injury and did do much this summer or fall.

Hill, Anu, and Kessler won summer league Cape Cod title. Hill is in left because it is difficult.

Rhodes is a freshman to watch.

He is at questions, but I lost the feed... trying to get it back.

Seems to be pretty excited about the hitting prospects.

Ramsey made the biggest jump mentally and physically. The changeup is now in and he now has a 3 pitch mix instead of 2.

Seems like he has figured out that pitching in the new ballpark will be extremely important because it plays much bigger than The Cliff.

A lot of alumni have come back to throw bullpens and to get in work at UK. So it is good to see those guys back and getting in that work.

Anu is a 'professional hitter.' Just kept repeating that he is a great hitter.

TJ is the voice and the leader of the team.

Ben Jordan will be eased back in. They won't waste much time getting him back and facing hitters, but he will start out coming out of the bullpen.

The way the guys carry themselves a lot better this year and it gives him a lot more confidence.

Thank you for the report Comebakatz3. Not much new from Minge.

Nope... not sure if you tuned in, but he definitely didn't have quite the energy he normally does, especially at the start. Kind of like he didn't even want to be there, which isn't like him.

He spent a lot of time kind of doing a marketing type role, telling everyone about the promotional days and how the kids run the bases on Saturday instead of Sunday. Things like that instead of really talking in depth about his team.

Not saying you are wrong, but I didn't get that sense at all. He seemed very energetic to me. He was also more upbeat about the team than I thought he would be. He seems to think several players have really improved since last year. I wasn't disappointed in what he said at all compared to my expectations.

That was my impression as well. I thought he was a little more upbeat than I expected.

To be fair, I think that he improved as he went on. Still, the initial impression I got from him wasn't great. Plus, he just had a different kind of feel than Lawson, who seemed much more eager to go to me.

Of course, this is just kind of reading someone's tone of voice, and I am certainly no expert on that, so I could be WAY off. lol

And I have no problem if you say I'm wrong. Won't hurt my feelings at all. :sunglasses:

To be fair, Lawson has games this week. She is closer to getting going with real games.

Thanks for the details. TCU is going to be a tough test right out of the gate. Should be a good gauge for us.

I really want to see the pitching step up this year. SEC is going to be a meatgrinder.

Have to at least feel good that Ramsey has now developed a third pitch. You're going to have a really hard time as a pitcher in the SEC throwing just 2 pitches. If you're going to pull that off then one of them needs to be special. So, at least getting a changeup will now make his fastball a bit more effective and will hopefully help keep the hits down.
