We came off of a 3-8 record in 2005 to then go 8-5 in 2006. I was curious to how this first game stacked up to that of our breakout year back in 2006 to set up the fun '07 season, so I did a little bit of digging. Back then, we played Louisville first. But I am looking for non P5 comparisons...
We played 3 non P5 teams that year. Texas state (41-7), Central Michigan (45-36), and Louisiana-Monroe (42-40 and also second to last game of season). In addition, we got blown out at LSU 49-0.
If we were to blow out every single non P5 team 50-0, we would no doubt be a T15 team. But we are not there yet. We are on the way to becoming what we were 10 years ago, and probably even better. We have lots of room for improvement, but we are not quite there yet.
I would also be willing to bet that ULL were far superior teams than Texas State, Central Michigan, and ULM were back then.
Everyone pump the brakes and relax for a bit. People were calling for Woodson back in the day. Whether it is Towles or Barker, the QB situation will be resolved in due time. Let a few games play out. Let us get back 3 key defenders. Let the freshman get rid of the game anxiety. Let Dawson get a feel for calling games. Just let the team work itself out. I have confidence it will.
