Oh I Snell it. I better take down all the UK deco out of my office before the game, probably my UK degree too, probably both my wife and my UK license plates too. I probably should not go to game Friday night either.

I mean as an obvious UL fan, at least according to Colombo over here, I should just keep getting depressed and bring up touchy UK subjects.

I also probably shouldn't know more about UK basketball than you either, that would be weird.

Oh, thanks for giving your permission. My best friend who has been playing along with you on this thread can attest to the fact that I'm a complete jackass and have no problem making a fool of myself.

I never have quite understood why people hate Pitino anyway. He won title with us and buried UL? Can't get better than that .

Worldwide Wes probably helped with a couple guys, but his influence has always been exaggerated by people, especially our rivals. He's not been close to the same "friend of the program" for Calipari at UK as he was for Cal at Memphis.

If Pitino had stayed Kentucky basketball would be where Louisville basketball is now. A man with no morals and glad he left before his true colors came out.

Lol, I said Pitino sold his soul to the devil, pretty sure that isn't a slight to Cal. My thought was sort of around Coach K. Pitino would be going on 30 years here and had a hell of a run going- that's it.

As for WWW, I just wanted insight. I don't think Cal or anyone around UK was worried about him- hell Cal talked about him on ESPN. I wasn't worried about him.

I have zero agenda. I just like having other convos outside of why Cal doesn't do this, or why Keldon wears different colored shoes.

I see where the other guy was coming from. It’s a dumb topic. Pitino is one of if not the most hated person on the planet amongst BBN. His run was no better than Cal’s. And he had the benefit of guys not leaving. Can you imagine a guy like Delk staying 4 years these days?

That is an interesting take. One I have thought about too. I don't know that I agree. I feel like he knew he made a bad decision when he left for Celts, was so egotistical that he thought he could take UL job and UK would still be ok with him and then stuff went sideways and then realized he was getting mauled by Cal in recruiting and got desperate. It was all a hurt ego thing with him...plus to see Cal suceedding, had to be hard since at one point they were close- many yrs ago.
 
I think had Pitino stayed at UK, he would have still only won two more titles max. And I seriously doubt he could have pulled off the 1998 championship with that team. Winning titles is tough. So essentially, we'd be right about where we are now. The only difference is we wouldn't have suffered through so many lackluster 10 loss seasons. And I doubt we would have experienced the final four drought we had with Tubby and Gillispie at the helm. Things wouldn't have fallen off as badly under Pitino, but I do feel he had pretty much peaked here at the time he left. Recruiting was already taking a downturn. I doubt he could have maintained the momentum he had in the mid to late 1990s.

This post was to not compare Pitino and Cal. It was just a what if, that's it. Pitino left UK as he was peaking...that is all it was. I cannot believe how sensitive some of our fans are.

His true colors came out when he gave the Kentucky fans the middle finger after losing in Rupp. I was there and saw it first hand. I am most proud of his accomplishments at Louisville. He was there 16 years and won 0 titles. He lost 90% of the time to Cal. He also lost both times Kentucky and Louisville played in the NCAA tournament when it really counted. I wish Louisville had kept him another 16 years.

Yeah, I'm with you on the middle finger thing...that was just sad.

I was a fan who honestly didn't even care he went to UL as long as we beat them and we mostly did. But to disrespect our fans like that was a low point. It was all about his ego, always has been.

I pretty much totally agree. Tubby did some masterful coaching in that title run. I think at MOST one more title. His recruiting was actually going pretty badly in the end here. Coaches had adapted to his full court press as seen in his return to Louisville. Plus with the one and done thing he didn't adapt well. But wait he won a title at Louisville in 2013. Yes but it was vacated and they were allowed to mug everyone, so much so they changed the rules that off-season. So I don't get why people think he would've had a coach K type run had he stayed here. He may or may not have won in 98 but I honestly don't see it. I think one more title at most. Then he would've embarrassed our program horribly. Glad he left when he did.

So one more title, 4 more final fours and that's where Pitino's basketball kryptonite would get us, more athletic teams than his.

Pitino is a convicted serial cheater, Roy cheated at Kansas, then admitted to cheating at UNC before denying it. We know K cheated just ask Magette, or Lance, or Zions moms real estate agent. I think Saban skirts around in the grey areas like every good coach does. I think Cal would too, except he lives in a fish bowl, and the UNCAA would perma-ban him if they caught a whiff of anything. So of the 5 coaches you named, 3 are definite cheaters, 1 skirts the issue, and 1 can't because of constant scrutiny. You should have just added Self. That would really persuade people to your arguement.

I was just explaining the backlash. I don’t get into this whole troll thing. I’m sure you’re a big UK fan. But this question has been asked 100 times already and it’s impossible to answer given the changes in CBB.
 
Pitino is a piece of trash. Banging people in restaurants, hiring hookers, paying players. I would assume we’d be shutting down the program right about now. The OP would probably still buy all of his books. Dude didn’t know nothin’.

Can’t imagine a scenario were Rick would’ve turned into U6 Rick had he stayed at UK. He was chasing his own UK legacy when he accepted the job at UofL. He thought he would pull in the UK fan base by accepting the job. It really become a whatever it takes approach to remain relevant agaisnt the only program that he truly was relevant at. He chased his own ghost! He mostly likely would’ve won 2/3 more had he stayed-he is one of the best X’s and O’s coach in the world.

Thanks for a legit reply. I love Cal, has nothing to do with him. I really kind of have the same thought about Cal. Assuming he stays another 15-20 years, I think he will get 2 more. But landscape on basketball probably going to change majorly.
