2 questions for older, diehard UK fans

I've got 2 questions for the older, diehard UK fans on this board.

1. Calapari said yesterday that winning 38 games in a row was more important than winning the championship. This, after saying it's more important at UK in getting players drafted in the NBA than winning championships. At what point, will the diehard UK fans and local press, will they start calling him on these statements??? Afterall, titles mean more to UK than probably any other school.

2. Back in 1991 and 1992, who did you root for to win in the 1991 semi-final game between Duke and undefeated, brash talking, we're the greatest ever UNLV Team? Also in the 1992 National title game between Duke and the brash talking, media loved, we're changing college basketball Fab Five Michigan team?

The truth.

I'll give you my simple answer.

1. I can't stand those comments from Cal. Preferring 38-0 to a NC is irrational. I haven't heard the comments this time but I have had issue with some of his previous comments. I will also say that I prefer Cal to coach here til he's 100, regardless of whether or not I like everything he chooses to say.

2. I couldn't care less in either of those years. Hated, and still hate all those teams you mentioned.

Duke was immensely hate-able back in the '80's when K was first starting out.

K's bread & butter back then was locking up any recruits from middle to upper middle class, to rich families, so as a kid from a dirt poor family, it was really easy to hate them - especially when they later put arseholes on the floor like Laettner.

It's funny because many, many years later, after a long and successful career thanks to my UK Engineering degree, me, my family, my kids, and my grandkids are closer to rich than poor, but I still dislike them intensely.

Going for championships is a foregone conclusion. It is a given here. It does not need reaffirmation. The things he does daily for these kids and in regards to this program show me that he is all about championships, but at the same time is all about many other important issues. In a sense, what he's saying is more important than championships (but if he continues to do the things he's done, championships will inevitably come). It is more important to get these men to be ready for life after college, to be ready with a marketable skill so--beyond any championship they might ever win--they will be able to make a living, whether it be in the NBA or not.

His management overall of the most complex AND most storied basketball program in college basketball is simply superb. His energy is near legendary levels, and his decision-making in every aspect from coaching, to recruiting, to hiring and beyond is just a work of art that his successor will be hard pressed to exceed.

Hence, not a single one of us should be the least bit worried about his candid remarks on these subjects. If we're good enough--and save one year under his watch, we've been in the mix every year--we'll win championships.
