Warning…this post is a novella, feel free to skip
When Calipari first arrived the majority of the fan base were excited he was here. I know I was..really wanted him instead of Gillespie
And I’m sure we can all admit..it was an awful lot of fun with the Wall/Boogie/Bledsoe group.
And while we were all disappointed and upset over losing to West Virginia in the tournament, I think most felt it was a great new beginning to an era. And even then few complained much about draft because of the fantastic class he brought in the following year…which resulted in a Final Four and most is the class returning
2012 was THE YEAR. Our first title since 98. We felt like we were on top of the world. 2013 sucked…and that’s when a number started seeing that maybe Calipari wasn’t really that good a coach—-I won’t say I was one of them, I’m afraid I wasn’t so astute. Then redemption in 2014…then the near perfect season in 2015.
And in the middle of all this..all the charity work, the telethons, everything you could imagine that was positive. How we could not love Calipari and the state of our program??
But something happened in 2015…the choke job to Wisconsin was only the beginning..
Mass exodus of players to the NBA, ready or not, transfers..where they become much better players on their new teams..not even coming close to living up to preseason hype. Calipari making more and more bazaar statements. And has anyone else noticed you don’t see him talking about his “sons” and them coming back as often?
It’s now been 7 years since a final four..
In that time we’ve lost all time wins lead, standings in tourney wins and FF, our three point win streak (yeah I know that’s minor) …worse we’ve lost respect, no one fears us and the apathy of the fan base is incredible disturbing and sad.
Let me say…I’m grateful to Calipari for his first 6 years here. He did do a lot for Kentucky basketball
But the man has lost it and is destroying our program from the inside out…no one seems happy to be a part of it any more.
And that breaks my heart
