Cal, has proven over and over he is one of the worst in game coaches in the biz and by far the worst bench coach we have ever had. Sooo many examples.

So a wide open shot for your best player on the day is bad coaching?

He has had issues in past games, but that last play was a good one. Dontaie floated a bit to far out and missed

I disagree. If you can somehow get the ball inside, you have a chance for a foul as well.

He won a bunch of close games early in his tenure. The problem isn't coaching the problem is this roster wasn't designed to win games.

You only need a 2, not sure setting Allen up for a 25-foot 3 was the best strategy. And, it's not just this game. How many games did we lose in the last few minutes? How many have we lost the same way in the last few years in crunch time? If the same results keep happening time after time, maybe it's not the players, the refs, execution, bad luck, etc. - maybe it's Cal's inability to coach his team to nail-biting victories (Wisconsin, anyone?).

Cal is lying again. Allen hit those shots because he was relaxed and Cal was desperate enough to leave him alone and not to interfere with his game. He didn't over coach he stayed out of the way.

Or maybe players miss shots. Sarr missed how many?

I agree about his coaching for sure, but the close losses this year are due to lack of experience and leadership, period. Its why we've said time and again this OAD is crap. Everyone points to 2010, 2012, and 2015 and completely ignores that the bulk of those rosters WERE NOT FRESHMEN. AD, KAT, Wall supplemented solid college talent and made us elite. We don't have solid upperclassmen nor do we have elite freshmen. You can only let the NBA raid the cupboard so long before it's bare.

Why is the game this close with the #1 rated class? That is the question.

Our first half defensive scheme was an absolute disaster. His unwillingness to play zone for more than a couple possessions killed us in the first half. It was men amongst boys out there as they were bullying us down low and getting whatever they wanted on the low block against our man-to-man defense. You have no choice but to play zone when they are bullying you that way. I have no explanation as to why he is so stubborn when it comes to playing zone for more than a few possessions. It's basketball 101. So frustrating!

Name Cal's replacement if you could choose.

1. The game was destined, at best, to be a nail biter when we went into half down 14.
2. The decision to bench Sarr and Jackson with 2 fouls at 10 minute mark basically played Ware way too many minutes.

But the team is what it is.....Askew is a mess, Boston dissapears vs. physical games, Sarr is a bit soft for a big, etc....But Cal's coaching doesn't bring back memories of a major bench coach. So throw up the season in the garbage....but a ton of things needs to change for next year years. But losing guys like Brooks, Allen, etc...would be a very bad idea IMO. We need to bring back some pieces and build from there.

Why not go with Allen? The only reason they were in the position they were in was because of Allen. He was the obvious choice unless someone was open under the basket.
