Mitch addresses Cal situation

Mitch needs to be concerned about his own livelihood at some point here. The UK fanbase and the athletics donors and supporters are NOT pleased with the current situation. Guess who doesn't have a $33 million buyout? Mitch Barnhardt doesn't. Guess who is next on the chopping block??? Yep, you guessed it. This situation has reached critical mass, in my view. I wouldn't be surprised to see significant financial blowback at this point from BBN. I think they're not gonna spend money and buy tickets and merchandise. Rupp may be half empty for most home games. I'm a patient guy, a huge supporter of UK all my life, but I've hit my limit. I'd say most UK fans have. I'll just say, we better get most of this team back. We better have a #1 recruiting class. We better have the best defense in the nation. We better have the best and most entertaining team in the nation. We better win every game. The natives are restless. Patience is gone, completely and irrevocably gone. It's a powder keg right now- one spark and it's flaming. One false move, one snide comment, one loss, and boom! Cal thinks he's heard it all and maybe Mitch thinks he's immune, but I think it's gonna get UGLY.

Someone should make a Twitter poll on this subject and send ole Mitch the results. Then let's see him justify this decision.

I seriously hope Rupp is empty. Both MB and JC should be gone. They have both shat on this program and need to go.

It’s absolutely mind boggling how good we looked early in the year before the bigs got healthy. I told my nephew..”they pass the ball like an nba team”…and it ultimately didn’t amount to anything…no post season win..NOT EVEN ONE!
this team would have been better off had all 3 seven footers never became available to play. Burks would have developed more and been even more ready for next year. Of course not sure how well we would have held up considering all the injuries we had as it was. Theiro, Mitchell, Wagner all missed multiple games. Even still would love the ability to replay this season again and just stay with small ball.

I knew it would be coaching restructuring/realignment. They'll spend 2-3 million and have a different staff to show they did something. Feels ike Cal and Mitch are in the same boat now and it's taking on water.
Should have brought some of the know-it-all basketball expert posters on here for advice even though their opinions change from game to game depending on a win or loss.

Lose that duke game, and we might see UK giving out tickets to try and fill Rupp.

Cal's incredibly bad coaching this season isn't just the talk of Kentucky; it's being talked about by
every talking head in the nation, and not in a positive way. That means we will be a very unlikely
destination for top tier transfers and I'm sure Sheppard is gone along with Dilly and Reeves
and others. We'll get back a few we don't care that much about getting back and a couple
2nd tier transfers. If next year's freshmen don't exceed expectations(and I sure don't think the top two will be as good as Sheppard and Dillingham), next year's team will not be fun to watch. Likely a bubble team possibly
playing in the NIT. And then Cal will be let go. Next year will just be a wasted year for Kentucky basketball.
If it goes the way I think it will Barnhart should not be the guy firing Cal; Barny should be fired first.

Post of the year, IL. Glad to see you onboard.

I was thinking Cal had UK by the balls, but it's actually UK and Cal have the FANS by the balls...OUCH. Without fan support there is no Kentucky basketball. But they know we'll watch every game, fill Rupp arena, stand in line for autographs, buy merchandise, NIL etc......until we don't. Don't see that happening.
Give it up. This bs is getting stale.

Yep, it's becoming very clear to me, Barnhardt isn't willing to do the job. He may have to be the first guy fired. And hey, no buyout! 😀 So, who fires Barnhardt? The President of the University? Maybe he's next. If these people aren't gonna do what must be done, find others who will. Keep firing until you find someone who will clean house and get things back in order.

Rupp arena will never be half empty. It wasn't half empty when Gillespie was coach.

I’m a software developer. Have been for the last 40 years. Do you know what I have to do repeatedly? Learn new languages and practices. Just like every other hard working individual. Our jobs constantly change and we have to adapt. And the cycle gets shorter every year. But not Cal, who stubbornly sticks to the same outdated regimen and gets paid millions, I have to adapt or I’ll lose my job. But not him. Guess I’m the idiot for not choosing coaching as my profession.

I don't think MB is telling us everything. I think the meeting might have gone something like this. Mitch is setting at his desk thinking about telling Cal he's fired. Cal bursts into the room and exclaims, "I'm going to be the coach next year, Mitch. You know that. Right?" Mitch replies, " OK." End of discussion. I wasn't there so I don't know. Just how I see it happening.

Did they have conversations at the end of every season since 2009-2010? Or just every season for the last few years? (One could read into the statement as “here we go again, having the same conversation we normally have after an early exit.”) Do we have any documentation that Cal & Mitch normally had a conversation about the direction of the program at the end of 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15?

We’ll never know. The elitists don’t need to pander to the common folk.

Boy that was short. I bet he’s mad. I bet the top brass said “you can’t fire him you moron because of the contract you gave him.”
I bet the conversation went something like this:

Barnhart: Cal, will you take a cash buyout of $15 million? If you still want to coach you can get another job
and wind up with more money.

Cal: No, this will be the last place I coach and I want every penny owed to me.

Barnhart: Glad to have you back for another year, Cal.

Cal has dunked all over this program for close to 20 years. He's such a damn joke.
He’s a narcissistic POS. Yes, HOF coach but can’t comprehend or won’t accept the game has changed. Thinks he knows better than everyone and if you don’t agree with him you are a Bennie. Arrogant turd he is. Please go away. Retire or take a new job.

As to #2 think of all the idiot posters who vehemently defended those two starting. Saying it was justified and didn’t matter. What morons.

And we still have (well meaning) posters who think Reed should return.

Why would we want him to return to play for a coach so many wanted fired? Why would he come back? Calipari has brazenly admitted he didn’t start Reed (better player) because he didn’t want to hurt DJ and Edwards feelings. Who's to sqy Reed would not come off the bench again next year in order for another inferior player to have their feelings hurt?

Why would he come back to “redeem” or play for SEC Titles/ FF’s or Titles when Calipari has also blatantly said those things are NOT the #1 priority?

Come back and do all of that or get drafted lottery and make $16-$21 million dollars?

At what point will the president step in and get rid of them both?

He won’t. Because as evidenced by that ridiculous Facebook group with tens of thousands of members… Calipari (and Mitch) still have quite a bit of support. Calipari has almost a cult like following because he’s “cool” for having so many NBA players and because of his progressive political beliefs.

The President, Mitch, Cal… so many these days do not have the same idea or “love” for UK Basketball that many of us do. It’s all about money. Status.

I have thought this for a couple years but I truly think the type of relationship we’ve all had with Kentucky basketball is over and never coming back. Sign of the times.

Again this is more a macro level observation on society as a whole but still.

The sooner many of us realize that the better.

Mitch nor Cal care about the history. Or the 90’s run. Or any run in decades past.

Mitch is the type of guy to hire an escort and ask her if she’s in it for the money.

Mitch the type of guy start floating when he smells pie.

Mitch the type of guy to be in a hurry and say “lemme scootch right by ya there”

Mitch the type of guy to come up behind you, cover your eyes and giggly say “guess who!”

Mitch the type of guy to cover his ears and say “La la La La La La, I can’t hear you!”

Mitch the type of guy to say “Ummm guys… we have company” in a horror movie.

Ultimately he’s a clown.

Mitch definitely has pushed his chips all in. I don’t give a damn how good the woman’s coaching hire is. There is little margin for error before the pitchforks are out.

I think Cal laid out his plan not to lose to a lower seed next year. “ What if we lose enough regular season games to BE the lower seeded team? That way we won’t have to worry about losing to a lower seed. Or maybe. We could miss the tournament completely. Either way, it keeps us protected against the upset”.
