Change is comin

It amazes me the people who bash Stoops. Do you remember what we were before? He deserves a chance of turning it around. If you watch the clips from the Locker, it is not a coaching thing. Give him a chance to clean house and get the players that fit.
He has been here 11 years. He ought to know what type players fit.

Give him a chance to get rid of the coaches and players he brought to the program?

I thought Coen should be given a break for this year but something is rotten with this offense. Yea the talent is down but after 12 games they still don’t look like they know what they are doing.

That points to something more wrong.

Why do you even support UK football at this point? Already being negative about next year before this year is even over.

Watching the games this year it appears that a change in philosophy and coaching has resulted in the worst season in several years.

Constantly trying to throw deep balls with a qb that cannot hit them putting themselves in bad situations, being more risky on offense and going for it on fourth downs, etc.

Defense is still vanilla as can be I will give you that, but if stoops ran this team like a Benny snell team and his old stubborn self then it’s easily a 8 win regular season.

If the coaches are disappointed in the qb and receiver play and are looking to rehaul that as the main focus of the off season what more would you want?
Unfortunately too many fans who claim to be football fans are like this.

This the stupidest post ever on this site!!! IT'S YEAR ELEVEN!! That's over 900 players signed to come into this program and more money invested than probably the last 50 years. It's been long enough for crying out loud. Wake up!!!

Just as dumb as you saying Stoops has signed 900 players in 11 years.

Who's on the hook then? Who do you want everyone to hold accountable and criticize?

20-year-olds, equipment managers, Quality control assistants?

Give him a chance to clean house?! It's his house. He's going on 12 years.

Since Rogers news is out I guess i'll share what i've heard over last month. Three names on QB front are Rogers, Vandagriff, and Jacurri Brown from Miami. Very secretive on top targets. It is tough to get info these days as Stoops and his main crew have walled themselves off, but I like what little I’m hearing more and more from the NIL/portal crowd. Staff is pissed at themselves and roster - focused on retooling for tough schedule next year and setting up for big year in 2025.

Sounds like a lot of feelers already out on the WR front. TAMU WR mentioned. It's a wide net, but some younger guys at Ohio State and Bama in loaded rooms who aren’t getting their touches are very interested. An extremely productive G5 guy is a top target. In total would guess 4-5 new faces in that group. Focus is on upgrading talent (and size) but more importantly character. Not breaking news but the current crew (besides #9) has been a major issue for the staff since Georgia and they are ready for a total reboot. The probability of locking down the WR studs relies on how quickly QB target is announced as the Leary flop this year set us back on Coen’s pitch. Have to lock that down quick. The O-line will be a total overhaul. Hoping to get Cox back but if not, Flax and Ford will compete for one of the tackle spots and the other 4 will be new faces. Won’t see interior guys moving forward. Good kids but not up to staff’s talent level or scheme fit up front. Once this is fixed, you will see TE’s used more in passing game.

Defensively we are lucky to have 0 in the middle and will for another year before he goes pro. Big piece on field and in the locker room and he will get NIL $$$ to match. Don’t know any names to fix the edges but told changes there will be younger/cheaper NIL portal guys and thrown into the mix day 1. Crowded and expensive market for elite EDGEs. Linebacker in a good spot. Big change coming in secondary similar to O-line. Hairston is a serious flight risk and a lot of new faces needed regardless.

Next chapter starts now.

If it's true, him walling himself is slightly concerning.

That's what CEOs and leaders do when something is souring. That would be something to keep an eye/ear on going forward.

If he's retreating, not interested in anything other than his crew their own/old ways...that can go south and get ugly really quick. Especially if some of his crew and ways are what needs changing.

UL running right over us. Stoops’ whole mo is physical play and this team outside of Walker doesn’t have it. UL could run the ball the rest of the way and win

I do and your comment wasn’t facetious if it was you are the only one who took it that way.
Whatever you believe dude. You can't sign but 30+ a year. You are getting your A$$ handed to you by a 1st year HC taking over a depleted program with supposedly you having the best team you've had in your ELEVEHTH year.

So I’m getting my ass handed to me by a first year coach. Ok so you are a basketball only fan trying to chime in on something you know nothing about. Go to Rupps rafters and I’ll see you there after this game. You are probably one of the keyboard coaches who wanted Cal gone last year.

This team was not good. That was the problem.

This team has quit. Locker room broken since Ga game.
Hahahahaha. Some of the dumbest shit has been said on here this week.

let me guess…you love UK and have watched the Cayuts since 1872. No one is happier with today’s game than bigbluedon. You don’t get to enjoy the W today. Embarrassing.

You know your football. Wish we had a good running back that could be a difference maker.

You are kidding yourself... we're talking Stoops here.

Go back to playing with your pinkie. Adults are talking.

Right, but this was a conversation about change for next year, you commented about this years team being bad, adding nothing of intelligence or relevance to the conversation.

All you wanted to do was to throw a negative comment about this year’s team on the day the team beat a top ten team for the first time in how many years?

I think everyone knows this team was a failure. Congrats on stating the obvious. It makes no sense to be angry, insulting and negative tonight.

Change is already here.

The problem with message boards is that most here couldn't type and cook pasta at the same time. They have no idea the difficulties of coaching well at any level much less the SEC and that's BEFORE NIL and the revolving door of the transfer portal.

NO ONE here knew what or who it would take to get us to 8 wins much less 10. NO ONE here thought Stoops could be the guy to do it. ALL OF THE NEGS that said he wasn't the guy from DAY ONE are still just pissed they were wrong about him getting us to 10 wins, not once but TWICE, 2nd in the East, 3 straight over UF, 5 straight over UL, 2 vics in the last 7 years over UT.... Yall were wrong and the only thing left to do now is double down over and over.

The TRUTH is that none of you thought we'd get to this point and you're too bitter about it to be listened to. The team played as a team today. They didn't make as many foolish and undisciplined mistakes. For the most part they let their play on the field do the talking.

The defense stepped up and showed Stoops that THEY COULD STILL WIN while playing a whole game of snaps in just 2 quarters. That was one of his biggest fears after the USM meltdown early in his tenure. It sucks that it took a whole year this year (and 10 before that) to see it, but he should finally realize that playing uptempo/big play football is not the death sentence to our D that he thought it was. Our guys responded big time down the stretch against a good team after 2 drives of 2 plays each and a kick-return TD. They came up with stops when needed.

The offense and the kickoff coverage nearly gave the game away early and late, but the defense AND offense did enough for us to win AS A TEAM.

The portal is a nightmare and a blessing, that even the best programs have struggled with a little. NIL is a work in progress also. Coaching on this level has gotten a sht-ton harder and people sitting in their comfy computer chairs thinking they know more sht than the staff is LAUGHABLE AT BEST. Give me a fckn break.
........

As I said before this season started, we have to learn what it's like to play with the target on OUR backs now, instead of being the underdogs. That's a completely next level mindset that the fans don't get and the players now may understand. This program broke through barriers for the past 10 years. This staff has adapted to TONS of situations and personnel/player changes and kept this program winning, even if they've fallen short at times. Can ANYONE HERE name one program that has done what UK Football has done and been through what they've been through in coaching losses, changes, and done so without being top 6 in recruiting in our conference or consistently top 20 in the nation?

Of course you can't. It probably hurts for many here to say it out loud. I get it. You're negative. You hate Stoops. You hate the AD. You hate that Stoops took this program to a level you didn't think possible without a flashy name and a drop-dead-lock hiring of eminent proportions. Put some diaper cream or prepH on it and pull your pants back up.

The staff has shown they can learn from mistakes and experience where many haven't and/or have really screwed the pooch with scandals and other issues along the way. YES, this season is a disappointment. Massive one to me because I expected to be at least 10-2 or better right now. I was wrong about the outcome, but not wrong about the potential of the season. Most here thought we'd finish with less than 7 wins. On this thread probably every one of the negs thought that. (Better go back and delete those posts.)
........

I think they'll make changes and hopefully for the better. I hope Stoops, Coen, and others learn from this game specifically and this season as a whole and stick around for us to see the benefits of that growth.

Brilliant.

Stoops gets a lot of criticism from the fan base, but if this team played in any other conference it would consistently win 9 or 10 games every year. The problem is not Stoops, it is the fact that in 2023, 6 of the Top 25 teams in the country play in the SEC; it is the fact that UK is #21 in the 2024 recruiting rankings in the country but # 14 in their own conference. Lack of NIL hurts the program, but the lack of in-state talent is a bigger issue.

Personally, I think Stoops has taken the program to its apex; for all the reasons noted above, the ceiling for the program is 8-9 wins on a regular basis and if the stars align maybe 10. The floor though is everything the fan base experienced for the 50 years before Stoops arrived.

The only thing I disagree with is the last paragraph. This should have been a 10 win regular season with a shot at 11 with a bowl game. The offense sputtering and lack of discipline is what killed us this season. I think there's a good chance we could see 11 and even 12 wins in a season, if NIL picks up, and the offensive scheme gets good and stays consistent.

We've never seen a multiple 5 star class at UK, but if we ever do, and follow it up with another one, we could reach that next level. It'll take NIL and a great couple seasons beforehand. This should have been one of those seasons.

Stoops needs to take his hands off the reigns of the offense, though.
