Zach Calzada a CAT !!!

With all of this talk about Calzada, it makes me wonder what happened to Boley. Did I miss something? Would it not be better to groom this guy for the future? Our schedule next year is tough, and we need to get this guy some reps for the next few seasons. We have gone to the portal 3 times for QB's the last 3 years and I don't think we have done that good with it. We need to bring in good young talent and build on them.
I'm curious too. Didn't Stoops say (either before or after the Texas game) that he was gonna build this team around Boley or something like that? I'd imagine Boley can't be too happy.

Since 2022 list of QB's who made the jump to FBS and had success :
2022 - Cam Ward (Incarnate Word) Washington State / Miami
2022 - Austin Reed - (Western Florida) WKU
2023 - Shedeur Sanders (Jackson State) Colorado

All 3 of those guys did "OK" at the next level would SOME of you other than cole854 and UKfan215 would agree ? Obviously they will not.

Those QBs had competent offensive staff around them. This guy has Stoops and Ham man.

Max Brosmer had some pretty good success at Minnesota this year after playing at New Hampshire.

Williams at UNLV took over after their starting QB left and was really good, leading them to a top 25 finish. Before he got the starting nod, Sluka from Holy Cross was leading the charge there

There are examples. Like everything else, it’s a crap shoot.

Hell, one of my favorite QB’s ever at UK, Stephen Johnson, transferred here from Grambling.

^1000% correct. I complained all year long that we seemingly never ran any short/quick routes to let BV get a few gimme completions. We constantly tried to push the ball down the field and outside the hash marks even when it was very apparent we didn't have a good pass blocking OL. I'd watch games and want to pull my hair out with the inexplicable reluctance to hit quick passes, use the flats and middle of the field, etc. Never understood what Hamdan was doing the entire season with his playcalling.
Same here and I came in a big beleiver in Hamdan. Frustrated me to no end why we didnt use more short timing routes (catch and throw 7 yard out or 5 yard dig to a spot) or use the flats or short middle of the field at all. If they are bringing 5 or more thats the area to attack, not stupid screen passes behind the line.

Yes, I know he struggled there, but I believe a lot of it had to do with picking a target before the play started due to knowing he was not going to have enough time to go through progressions. Perhaps with more experience he could learn to manage the position enough to create a little more time (step up in the pocket, scramble more etc...) However, my point was that we need to get someone young and good who will have more years to play in Stoops system rather than a new QB every year through the portal. Next year will be rough again as the schedule is hard. I am not sure a new QB from the portal will be ready.
I’m more sold on Saunders being that guy than I am Boley.

Sanders should have an asterisk. Had his dad not been coaching, he would have been at a P4 school.

3 weeks ago the backup on the roster now that started against UofL was the 2nd coming. Why bring in this guy? Or maybe that was all horseshit hype to distract from the heat that should be on stoops and barney's ass.

I’m not big on BV but in all fairness a lot of Hamdan’s routes took an awfully long time to develop which didn’t help much, especially with our pass blocking. Never could figure out why we didn’t adjust to help BV a little more, total system failure imo.

This may be true, but we Boley seemed to get the ball out quicker from my inexperienced perspective.

If the KY Coaching staff doesn’t screw this up and has a plan the kid can execute I like the addition and think he can be a very good QB.
