Looks like we're seeing the Kentucky effect taking place yet again..247 just dropped Russ Yeast dramatically in their rankings. Just last week Yeast was rated the No. 207 overall player in his class when he committed, and surprise surprise, he has now dropped over 100 spots and become the No. 320 player overall while being dropped from 4-star to 3-star status. He has now been dropped to the No. 49 receiver in the class of 2017.

He was rated #14 in Bill Kurelic’s Ohio 2017 Top 15 July rankings.

Stuff like this really ticks me off. Who knows the real reason but I'll put my tin foil hat on a suspect that there may be certain programs out there that may not like the way UK is recruiting. Big time programs have connections to the recruiting ranking services and I'd be willing to be there is a connection there. Maybe I'm wrong, but it don't matter. UK is recruiting high caliber athletes and football players, and the wins are fixing to start coming.

Wonder how many of those that jumped his ranking can play both sides of the ball as effective as him?

Probably not many. Though that does not matter anymore - as this rating drop is going to take away some of his skills.
I just wish the experts at the recruiting site let Stoops know before burning a scholly like that.

One legitimate thing I can think of off hand is since he is rated both offense and defense. He might have a different ranking depending in if he wants to go Offense or defense. He might be wanting to go the direction which he is lower rated. Is that clear as mud to you?

247 was the service that had Yeast rated a little higher than the other places, this drop is just him falling in line with everybody else. I get it, 4-stars are prettier than 3-stars, it looks good in the rankings but in reality there isnt much difference between the #200 and #300 player he still has over a year to prove that he is worthy of that extra star,

Simply can't get too caught up in what a rating service says about a fall 2017 prospect in the summer of 2015.

Peace

He might drop in rankings but by George he doesn't drop passes:football::football::football::football:That's the only thing that concerns me that now since he is ours now

That's funny, I was just reading the UL guys the other day stating that UK gets a bump in ratings b/c we have such a large subscriber base. Which is it?

He is the 19th rated player in Ohio on Rivals. Anytime you have a top 20 Ohio player you rest easy that you're getting a stud. The top 20 in Ohio routinely sign with ND, OSU, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan St., Nebraska, ect.

Underclassmen dropping in rankings is pretty normal as more and more players are evaluated. Underclassmen ratings also project growth into their rankings...if a kid doesn't grow or improve as much as perhaps projected to do they will also fall.
Let's be real...any HS kid ranked in the top 500 players is a damn good prospect.

According to UL's site...UK gets the "nod" on player stars; Only UL gets shafted

I think someone broke it down and only a handful of Ohio kids in the top 40 didn't get d1 offers since 2000. So top 20 is awesome and top 40 is still real good

Agreed. I would imagine he wouldn't have dropped any if at all had he committed to O$U.

This is why recruiting rankings are a lot of bunk. Sure they know the top 50 or so guys who show up at ever camp and are built like NFL players in high school. Problem is if you looked at the NFL draft 4-5 years down the road you would see a lot of guys in the first round that were nobodies coming out of high school. When you get down into the masses there are PLENTY of no names who become stars and 3-4 stars who disappear forever once the lights come on. So the easy thing to do is to factor the school the player commits to into the equation.

The only true way to rank a recruiting class is 5 years later. How many games did they win?Bowls?BCS level? Playoff appearances?Conf titles?Pro's? Thats how you rate a class. For all but a select group of kids assigning them a rating before the kid ever cracks his first college book or takes his first meaningful snap is about as far from an exact science as you can get.

Outside of about 5-10 schools who get a large portion of those top 100 kids every year the object of recruiting is to get kids who fit your system and coaching style. Its why a Boise State can beat an Oklahoma or we can beat eventual national champion LSU. Both had players who fit their system and clicked with their coaches. Charley Strong recruited a class that had like 13 plus pros in two seasons (3-4 years after he recruited them) and I dont think he ever cracked the top 25 in recruiting. These examples tell us that either certain guys are well above average coaches or talent evaluators and/or there is built in bias and glaring flaws in rating highschoolers who play uneven competition and are at various points of physical development at the same age.

Good coaching, right players, right place and right time can get us to double digit wins even with one of the lower ranked SEC classes.I get a kick out of those who put too much credence in a very uneven (evaluation wise) and biased (kid commits to us and drops 100 spots, seriously!) We have a lot of momentum in a lot of areas of building a program. If we have the right men leading these kids we are well on our way. The SEC East has never been more open. The talent has rarely been higher in Lexington. The schedule falls our way tremendously this year. We CAN leave a mark. Maybe it doesnt happen. Maybe were a year away. But its very possible that we can see our name up there with the traditionals every couple of years or so.

There are many programs out there whove come from nowhere in the last 20-30 years and forced their way into the spotlight. There is no reason to believe we dont have the same potential and frankly I think our classes will rate out higher if we revisit these rankings down the road. I see a future where its quite possible that we play our two biggest rivals down the stretch run to end the season and both games mean something not just to us but to the rest of the country and most definitely the SEC race.

I don't keep up with recruiting that much, especially far off recruits like 2017, but what is Yeast doing in Ohio. Isn't his Dad a coach somewhere around Lexington?

what are his high school stats ?
Physical measurables?
Offers?
Character?

From what I understand people are knocking him for lack of straight line speed and height? Is that correct?

This is another thread where posters stress over star ratings. Mr. Yeast was recruited and committed to UK for his ability and contribution to our footbal program. This obsession over star ratings is unhealthy.

This coaching staff is not Joker Phillips or even Rich Brooks. Everyone needs to chill and allow this fine young coaching staff do their work. Show up and cheer.

Exactly we know now that we are after very good talent so let the stars fall where they may.

the Ohio Rivals guy came on here and told us the night they committed that he didn't think they were that good and Yeast was the one he criticized most. This was coming.

Coach Stoops is a great recruiter and if he wants a player, that in itself tells me that the player is outstanding.

That being said, it infuriates me how these recruiting services give our commits a lower ranking the minute they say they are coming to UK. It's ridiculous!!

I was completely shocked that Drake had maintained such a high ranking on 24/7, same with Landon Young. It's really annoying to me that sites constantly do this, but hopefully it makes the players wanna work harder to prove them wrong!

The funny thing is, not one thing has happened since he signed with UK, nothing... The only variable is that the kid signed with UK.... What else can it be.. No one wants to have conspiracy theories, but there it is in black and white...

Craig Yeast says his son Russ, has better hands than he did, and is bigger and stronger with the ability to break more tackles, but in a 40, took him a step or 2 longer to get to full speed.... Russ will be just fine at UK...

The kid, just like his dad, has elite talent. He will be a star here and will probably play in the Pros as well. Don't look for him to be the go to guy as a Fr but by his Soph season he will be a key to us returning to glory!!

Believe he is listed in the 5-11 range. His dad said he was almost as fast as him so if that is the case speed isn't an issue because his dad was about as fast as a football player could be.
