Wright State player views on Rupp

Rupp is definitely a top 5 arena, when it's a big game. It's probably top 20 otherwise. This game was crazy because it was the first game of the Pope era, so I'm sure his view of the arena is skewed because of that.

The best arenas have students along the sidelines IMO. We get them stuck under one end, which isn't intimidating for an entire half.

let me guess...some of you want the court surrounded by students that jump up and down the entire game chanting AAAAAAHHHHHH like they do at Duke? it doesn't intimidate the opponent or fire up the team even a little....just makes them look like dumbass. clueless college kids
What?? You're saying an electric home crowd doesn't help the home team "even a little". Yeah, ok. A church atmosphere seems pretty fun for a game. 👍

I have wondered if some players were coming into Rupp for a try out. The portal surely has made some guys want to perform for the chance at more money. Not saying this guy is, but it is a new concept to consider.
Lol . I’ve thought about this . I wonder if players at lesser programs think that way.

I’m 62 and even I think you’re sounding like this:

In regards to Rupp, it's always going to be somewhat intimidating because its a 20k+ seat arena. Some of these players will go into that game, never having played in front of such a big crowd.

So it's always going to be a top environment.. I just think we have the opportunity to make it THE toughest environment to play with a few changes.

Did you even play sports in your life or just watch others?

good to see that asshat who called for an usher to tell a guy to sit down to get blown up on social media

even Barnhart weighed in and said stand up .

but I'm tired of the bluehair attacks and saying students, who also only show up for big games, are the answer

Freshmen who had 15 points and 2 boards against us.

7-9 overall and 1 for 3 from 3. Also added 1 foul and 1 turnover in 18 muntes

42.6/40/85.7 in 18 minutes per game.
Yeah, was going to say I thought this was the kid that torched us. He was the only Wright State player that can do anything and it was his first ever college game in Rupp. Crazy impressive. I remember Jimmy Dykes praising him all game but this is one of those cases where Jimmy's hyperbole was warranted.

Why would you NOT want an atmosphere like that? Yeah duke sucks but their home crowd is great.

Well you're kind of explaining why there are blue-hair attacks to begin with. In what stadium across America is someone told to "sit down" or that someone cheering loudly is in the wrong? This isn't the Westminster dog show. You see what they do in Philadelphia? They actually throw-up on kids lol. Some of these blue-hairs might literally have a heart-attack if they saw what many other stadiums are like.

1/4th of the lowers behind the visiting team's bench, to students, would be nice! That, combined with the rest of a home crowd should make things tough for opposing teams to even communicate during to's. I get that it likely comes down to money...but winning IS money.

Duke and Kansas' home crowd, and emphasis on student sections, seem to be worth at least a few additional wins every season. Not sure why we wouldn't want that. Instead we put the students on either "endzone", when they very well should have at least A sideline to be on.
It wouldn’t be difficult either. You take out 3-8 rows on one side and make a standing room only student section with a lesser rate of incline than stadium seating. So the average height male students standing in the back of the student sections heads are still even with the first sitting rows knees.

If you built a couple luxury boxes you’d be able to clear out enough of the bottom section and incentivize ppl to move. Even if it meant waiving their season ticket cost for 10 years to move a little higher in the lower section or giving them a 50% off the box rates to move to the box and be catered to

Exactly, and this is what annoys me about blue hair and corporate types: a lot of them aren't willing to budge even an inch on something so simple and what so many other arenas do. Just so they can sit there and be a bunch of Karen's yelling at people for cheering too loud lol.

I don't think theres another arena in sports thats uniquely weird as Rupp and BBN.

So the question is , if you buy a ticket , with a seat, in a stadium format, are you entitled to view the event while sitting down?

Every year I hear about how the bluehairs are a problem but the logic also dictates that if you’re complaining about them then you want a Cameron gym type atmosphere where people are handing out chant sheets before the game or you want a UT atmosphere where people are yelling f bombs in unison and screaming at the players families.

Say what you will about the bluehairs but you can’t say they act belligerent and it’s their first beer

Now if you aren’t entitled to see the event you bought a ticket for while sitting down then take the seats out -that seems absurd but just as absurd to tell someone with a 3 year old or is 75 years old if they want to see stand up the entire game or don’t come at all because UK basketball is only for people that stand.

I wonder how Caleb would feel if the person in front of him held up a 5 foot wide fathead of Mark Pope and blocked his view (while standing up) the entire game? You think he'd be ok with that after dropping $300 on Stubhub or whatever for lower level tickets?

I think you can find a middle ground. Which is, give the student section one side of the court where they can be on top of the opponents bench. The Bluehairs shouldn't get BOTH sides along with nearly unlimited seats higher up (where families will likely be anyways).

As for someone standing up for a big play, or here and there, you deal with it. It's not the opera. You can move your head for 30 seconds or, and brace yourself for this.. but also get excited and stand up and cheer.

Honestly Im shocked there aren't more issues. Good luck telling Bills fans to stay seated so you can have your unobstructed view of the entire field for the entirety of the game.

you couldn't be more wrong. it's EXTREMELY intimidating to opposing players, and definitely plays a factor. To think otherwise is shouting into the rain.

I think reasonable people cheer and get excited about watching a big play, standing up and cheering is part of it - and fortunately for the fans, the team has given them plenty of moments to do that.

but this idea that you bought your ticket, you should be able to stand the entire game, and screw anyone behind me, they should do what I do is dick move, IMO

I think the standing for entire games is more for student sections, so I would agree there.

However.. BBNCat I believe posted a caller being told to sit down numerous times, which to me says he was intermittently getting up to cheer. That I do not agree with. And we've heard stories of this by the hundreds: stuffy and generally older UK fans who treat this like an afternoon at the movies. Don't be loud and you better not move around.

No one wants to upset the Old Money Posse, the same posse that can't get us to a top four ranking with NIL. From everything I've heard, Alabama, BYU, UNC, and Arkansas outspend us on NIL. Maybe even Kansas.

That's unacceptable, especially considering how much our program caters to the Great Gatsby Kentucky Coalition.

We should be at least #2 in NIL spending. We're losing to a football school, a Mormon university, and Arkansas. UNC and Kansas I can at least understand with their Jordan/Nike influence for UNC and Adidas for Kansas, but the others are laughably unacceptable.

there doesn't seem to be any shortage, I'd say hundreds of people giving the responses, saying if you don't want to stand stay at home on the couch. I suspect many of those people have attended fewer games in their lifetime than the bluehairs attend in a season.

People are acting like if you stand up to cheer after a made basket , a steal or even a moment where the team needs inspiration, you are told to sit down. I suspect alot of it, someone is standing up, probably holding their phone out in front of them when generally, nothing is going on in a game.

now to be fair, I'm fine with standing up during the game, if that was the norm, but in 40+ years of Rupp, that isn't the norm, and UK has 669 to 85 losses which around a 90% win rate at home

Rupp gets loud and crazy when the Cats are playing fun and exciting b-ball. It was unbelievable last season because of the fun style. The problem was the other team would score so easily against our crappy defense that it would shut the crowd up.

I mean, it looks like someone actually got the cops called on them for standing lol.
