Would love KU to be #1 when UK comes calling

I'll alter that to say I'm less worried about WVU. But I doubt you'll find many folks saying Kentucky > OU right now. I think OU is going to win our league this year, personally.

bill self keeps studs around 3 and 4 years just to have a shot at winning this game. That's the funniest part.

What's the record? Don't be scared.

Actually have to agree with a KU fsn on something. Diallo is clueless out there at this point(I know I took it further). He's lost defensively and his offensive game is more WCS as a freshman than it is Jahlil Okafor. Like Skal he has a long way to go

KU should win ...... actually I'd be shocked , absolutely shocked if we win that game. I just hope we improve enough to make it a game out of it.

With a healthy Tyler Ulis the game won't get out of control.

I actually think UK wins the game. Kansas isn't some juggarnaut. They're just an old bunch in a day when we are consistently young. Our players perform and go on.

Hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see a win when we meet KU in AFH. They've had this game marked on their calendar for a long time. I expect their fans to be rabid, and their team out for blood. Unless we see major improvement before then, I think Kansas could win rather handily.

We'll see what happens if we face them in the tourney. We should/will be much improved by then.

If the game was a week ago I would have to agree. But after we beat U of L and the fact that Camp Cal is currently in full swing this week and the game is still a month a way so I think we will be more than competitive.

Cal will have the Cats ready.

BTW, why does Kansas refer to itself as KU anyway? So what if there is another UK. I am sure there are plenty of teams with the same two letters. Texas and Tennessee for example.

I'm assuming we lose and just hope to be wrong. I just hope I can be as rational come game time and not get too upset if we do lose. I may not be able to watch live though.

I know this won't go over on a Kentucky board but "KU" has nothing to do with Kentucky. It was the naming convention of the whole Big 8 (OU, CU, MU, ISU etc)

I remember watching Kansas four times last year -- the aforementioned Florida game, when Kentucky obliterated them, losing to a West Virginia team that UK later beat by 40, and losing to Wichita State. .

I can see why you thought KU was bad since you watched them go 1-3. The rest of the games they went 26-6. Shoulda watched a couple of those.

The #1 team playing at home shouldn't lose to anyone. Add to that, we embarrassed them pretty bad last year. Good chance they have been anticipating this game over any other individual game on their schedule. Whats the odds on Doug Shows being one of the officials?

Like most UK fans (or so it seems) I'm not confident in getting a win at KU... But on the other hand (based on a small sample size) this team seems to rise to the occasion against a big opponent. Again, it's a small sample size but Kentucky played its best basketball against its two best opponents (Duke and Louisville) so far.

It's a different animal going on the road but I don't think intensity or lack of focus will be an issue in that game, which has been an issue in many other games this season for UK. I don't see even the rowdiest of crowds rattling Ulis, so as long as he's handling the ball, I'm confident he'll rise to the occasion like he's done twice to Lousville. It remains to be seen how our younger and less experienced guys will handle it though.

We hammered UCLA last year worse than we did Kansas. The Bruins got revenge, and were really fired up, expect Kansas to be even more rabid !!

The UK team you see today is not going to be the UK team in a month from now. The Kansas team you see today will be the Kansas team we face later... How much can UK catch up? Time will tell.

So, I guess you're implying that Kentucky's freshmen will begin to "get it" and play better, but the Kansas freshmen won't? Don't forget that on top of Diallo and Bragg, this year Greene and Svi are also getting and learning how to play as part of the regular rotation. Both teams will be improved. Although, I do not think you can coach the ability to hit a jump shot in one short season, which is Kentucky's biggest weakness this year, so I suspect that although Kentucky will be better by January 30th, it won't be by much. Kentucky's biggest advantage in this match-up will be athleticism.

On top of the response already given, what is the chant I hear when watching Kentucky games? It sounds like they are chanting go K-U?

Even if Bragg and Diallo improve ..... Self is going with Ellis and the other upper classmen over them against teams like UK. Greene is who he is by now. And Svi.... well he's a spot up shooter but can he improve defensively?

Compare how much they can improve compared to UK improving as a team. Briscoe, Murray, Matthews, Humphries, Wynyard and Skal are all freshmen. Willis is getting playing time for the first time in his career here...... There is a TON of potential to improve.... where as KU is mostly a team playing together for years...

Please name the studs that should have gone to the NBA that Self "kept around" in order to beat Kentucky in a non-conference game that means nothing. Don't be scared.

This is a different tune from what I heard this summer and fall, about how KU wasn't going to be very good. Now, they're good but won't be that good at the end. I suspect when the brackets are released Selection Sunday, folks here will still say there's time to improve vis a vis KU. And they aren't any good in March anyway.

I'm not changing my tune. I still think ya'll suck.

No one said they wouldnt be good in the end. I'm saying KU is a top 2-3 team right now but UK could reach that level by the end of the month because of the potential of all the freshmen we have.

Disagree. As Diallo and Bragg improve their playing time will increase.

And what about my point about the inability to coach shooting in one short season?

Also, Greene and Svi are who they are, yet Willis isn't? All three are getting legitimate playing time this year. You can't give Willis the benefit of the doubt and not Greene and Svi (who are more talented players).

I think it's clear UK with all their youth have more room to improve but don't fool yourself into thinking KU is a bunch of senior 3 and 4 stars that have maxed out or something. Kansas has yet to really put it together this season, especially their bench.

You also have to take into account we are majorly spoiled by last season. Every team this year sucks compared to UK, Wisconsin and Duke from last year

I think that belief is starting to taking on a life of its own and it's making those teams out to be better than they actually were. First of all, we are comparing teams a third of the way though the season to teams that were playing their best at the end of the year. Also, I don't see this huge chasm that some do between the seasons. Some difference, sure. But people always inflate past teams in retrospect. In some UK fans eyes, the 96 team would have won the NBA title as well. :)

We'll win that game with ease. More worried about OU and West Virginia and Iowa State.
Don't know about all that, I don't know who will win, don't even have a good feeling about who will win, but I think it'll be a close game regardless.

And Arizona who was right there too. Frankly, even 2015 Gonzaga & ND would be favorites over the field this year as well.

I think KU and MSU can get to that level by the end of the year........ and us... but it would take Skal living up to his potential and Briscoe going back to his high school shooting.... but its slightly possible.

I hope Uk goes on a run to get up to number 2. Makes the game that much more exciting. Truth be told, I'd guess both teams with have a few more tic marks in the Loss column before we meet----not to mention Uk will have a good run where they look like they have put it all together and Kansas will look like garbage----we look very pedestrian when we don't hit from the outside.

Same reason why KU doesnt want to play at Rupp. Who wants to play games where there is only like a 5% chance of winning?

Yeah there's a reason some states have to force some teams to play each other. If you're a huge natural rival but you aren't in the same conference then why play? It's unusual to have home games like these, nobody wants to schedule them every season. Same thing with us and Wichita State / Missouri.
