WKU Hack n Smack gameplan

They’re all not going to be highlight reel worthy but geez could we make some fts & be stronger with the ball. I’m not even going to start on the middle school lackluster passes.

But a good game to show us how to win when things don’t go right and shots not falling, but we really need to take the ball out of Williams hands at the top of the key. I fear Bama, ut, zags are going to exploit that more than western did.

Pope seemed pretty happy with the effort tonight. His only real complaint was a ten minute stretch in the second half where he said we weren't getting 50-50 balls. Other than that he seemed fine. If he's not worried, I'm not gonna worry.

WKU forced us to rely on our bigs and played rather rough. We made FT's and got plenty of rb's. well adapted by Pope and the players..I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still getting used to a coach who makes adjustments, based on team, type of play, etc. And what's this I'm seeing...in game adjustments?! Wow. Still trying to get used to it. I agree with you...I LIKE IT!!!!+

Perfect example why you shouldn't play in state mid majors. Nothing to gain. Everything to lose. Kentucky was lucky no one got hurt Tonite.
What are you talking about? There was nothing wrong with the way WKU played. Kentucky just didn't play their normal game, but they demonstrated that they don't have to in order to win and win big.

I don't know if I agree with the idea of never playing in-state mid-majors, but I definitely understand the sentiment there. And there is no question WKU was playing harder than us many times tonight. They were desperate to win the game and played over their heads for much of the game.

That's the frustrating part of playing in-state mid-majors. If you win, you were supposed to and you gain almost nothing in the grand scheme. But if you lose, it will never be forgotten in the state and your ranking and efficiency numbers take a nose dive, and you spend a month trying to make it up. If it was an out of state team, it's a completely different dynamic.

The biggest thing I got from this game is that probably Amari Williams is a head case.
Things ain't going pretty well for him he's going down the drain quick.
Hopefully we can keep his confidence up because that could be a problem that spreads after losses.

Once it gets to the SEC it will not get easier buddy. You better start packing your big boy lunch cuz the SEC every team is like WKU in the post.

WTF. A "head case"?!?

I'd say you are going slightly overboard on this assessment...

Eh...I had no problem with how WKU played. They played with more energy and aggression the majority of the game.

UK, for large portions of the game, looked disinterested and lacked energy. Many weak passes were thrown, and many stupid passed were thrown (cough cough looking at you Amari).

And yet UK won by 20, and still almost hit 90.

Don't be surprised if UK looks the same Fri night coming off of Thanksgiving against another lowly opponent.

LOL, that was physical ? Nope. Their tallest player was 6-7 and we struggled. If last night bothered you, wait until we play Auburn, Tenn, Texas, Bama, A&M. If the WKU defense bothered you, you may not want to watch games v/s SEC teams. We shot over 40 FT's, refs didn't give them anything. No cheap fouls, hard fouls, just good hard nosed aggressive defense. We had better find some of that hard nosed defense, against better teams, the finesse defense we are playing, half ass effort rebounding and going after loose balls will get exposed.

Williams free throws kill puppies
They should fuzz out the view of the rim when it hits, not made for TV viewing.lol

I love his attitude but last night he brought the wrong attitude. Hopefully he is back to normal by next Tuesday. We need his toughness. We need him, Garrison, Almonor all to be ready to help Carr.

It was a good toughness test for our team. I think we all saw some weaknesses. Now those can be addressed and fixed before we play a real "athletic" team.

I hope that Pope talks to Williams about what he expects from a starting center and if he doesn’t meet expectations, Garrison promises to continue improvement and Carr can take more minutes at the 5. Garrison is already taking more minutes than Williams on the season by the slightest of margins.
