With the dawn of the "like" feature, has arse kissing increased on this message board?

Just seems that the board has recently adopted more of a "We are the world, we are the children" mantra as of late. I'm not saying it's a bad thing by any stretch (I like the upbeat mood); I'm just noticing more of a correlative positivity since the likes feature has become a board function.

Thoughts?

It's still easy to manipulate. Trolls have multiple user names anyways. So all a troll has to do is like his own post several times each post and viola! 1000 likes

Most of the folks here have been around for a while - long before the "like" feature. I'm not sure the fake accounts are really all that prevalent. Of course, newer posters are usually suspect anyway.

Me too. When I find a completely wrong post I find myself searching for the thumbs-down button! How was that overlooked?

BTW if someone goes through the effort to log out and log back in just to "like" his own post, that is just sad. I feel bad for those people.

I wouldn't put it past the typical troll. After all, trolls usually try to pose as a fan of another team and build up credibility in order to slowly (and something quickly) build up a base for attacking Kentucky.

That mentality wouldn't impede the desire for creating multiple accounts.

There is a mob mentality with likes as well , you get a group of posters in a thread that have the same thoughts on a subject and it becomes an affirmation to like the other posters . I like posts because I agree with them or it's a good point of view that I hadn't considered .

Bash the voter or those trolling for votes. What a dilemma?

To be fair, this site gets a lot of trolls. I have found that if I acknowledge being a Kansas fan and am respectful, I am treated with respect in turn.

Not worried about likes, but if they allow people to respond without quoting the whole damn thread, i wish the KU board would adopt it!

Get so tired of scrolling, scrolling to get to the new post. Especially in those pi**ing match threads.

Kentucky fans DEFINITELY see the world through blue colored glasses, but most really know their shite and talk basketball.

Likes don't mean anything. Only a fool would be concerned with it.

Well I am going to be sacrilegious here but a lot of arse kissing was going on before, remember that Tubby Basher guy, I think his username was Deplion, if he said it snowed crystal meth he was applauded.

Why no sideways thumb....like a hitch hikers thumb.....that signifies that I neither like or thumbs down dislike something. It simply means that I couldn't care less.

People are certainly concerned with how they're perceived by strangers on a message board. In fact, I'd imagine most on this message board care very much about that perception. By that standard, one could deduce that there are many who put more weight into their "likes" than they should.

But I agree with you. One of our most informed posters here puts more thought and time into his posts - giving real information with stats, percentages, etc. - and he is rarely cited for his work.

I was hoping we could feature a secret society handshake feature. Like the Illuminati. Or even a gang symbol for the older timers who have been here since the Bush Administration.

Maybe. So what? To me, it seems like people should be able to post what they think without being harassed. Fair game to disagree. But not personal attacks, which contribute nothing and distract threads away from their subject. If there is a difference in behavior, that is mostly coming from some of the old guard. But not all of them. A few still think they own this board and have a right to harass other posters. For the most part, discussions are better than ever. Personally, I don't pay much attention to likes because I know what I think without them. But if you want to make something out of likes, the ratio of likes to posts is a more informative indicator than just the number of likes or just the number of posts.

This. And it should be tallied the same as "likes."

"Oh look, he has 500 troll points."

actually, i was thinking maybe you can have troll face where you post. More troll point you get the more it covers up what you say.

Time allows it to fade slowly. It'll be entertaining to see a big troll.

Telling post. I know that I, for one, like to have those "likes." For some reason, the regard of you all means a lot to me.

Honestly, though - I like to "like" posts because it's easier than doing ^^this, or .

I'm more concerned with not needlessly offending people than I am receiving "likes".

While some on here love to dig at each other, I think that pissing matches usually derail a good thread.

Yea, likes don't make you a good poster. Cred isn't built by likes or posts, it's built exactly how you said, reputation.

I think you agree, but the likes I have are worthless.
