Wish someone would ask at the post game presser...

We gave up 12 the last 5 minutes. That's not amazing. Defense is the only thing keeping this team from a title. Our offense is insane
After Arkansas went up 9, they made exactly 3 baskets the rest of the way. And 2 of those came in the last minute and a half.

Yes, the defense definitely ratcheted up. Although they have to stop fouling so much.

And why did Reeves sit the final 5 minutes? I get we won but sheesh.
I would be willing to be that Calipari never even realized that Reeves was sitting for the last 5 minutes until the game was over ... and nobody had the nerve to suggest to him that it might be a good idea to have your season leading scorer, and the leading scorer for the first 35 minutes of this game, in the game for the last 5 minutes.

We played our best basketball of the game in those final 5 mins so the lineup worked.

I think media has been asking about the defense for several weeks now but what else can you really say about it now. We just have a team that is extremely talented on one end and lacking on the other. We never really found that balance and given that it's March 2nd, probably never will.

Team can still make a run tho IMO. That last 5 mins, we created a couple of turnovers and got some easy buckets. It shows that maybe just maybe we can lock in on defense even if it's for a small portion of the game.

Who would you have taken out to get Reeves into the game? The five on the court were playing incredible on both ends.

Not sure how anyone could complain with the last 5 mins.
How we played during that stretch won us the game lol.

Reeves is a huge part of this team but Rob was doing well, Edwards came in and performed. I mean I just don't know who you are taking out and putting Reeves in with this situation.

It was seven minutes and fifty seconds . Plus minus says our best team by far is having Reed , Dilly and Reeves in together . They are impossible to defend . We got lucky and won in spite of Cal And number 1 taking a really dumb three point shot that thankfully went in.
We played good basketball but not smart basketball . Play that way in the NCAA and there is no way we win six in a row .

Damn this board cracks me up. One of the most common complaints this year has been Cal fiddles with lineups too much. And then when we find one that clicks and stick with it (same thing happened at Arkansas) there are still complaints.

The issue is his favoritism of DJ….Cal is willing to risk the season if it means helping DJ’s draft stock. He tipped his hand when he started Bradshaw in the 2nd half. He is willing to replace everyone else in starting lineups with the guys playing the best EXCEPT for DJ. Both Reeves and DJ were terrible on D today and allowed countless straight line drive buckets. But for the season the analytics are clear that playing: Dilly, Reed, and Reeves is our best lineup by a mile and needs to be the closing group with Edwards and Z.

What about DJs game today makes you think he didn't deserve his minutes? 19 points on 6/7 from the field and 3/4 from the line.

This isn’t the game to rag on DJ, you did watch the game, right?

(1) he doesn’t deserve to start over: Dilly, Reed, or Reeves they have all played better consistently for the entire season.
(2) Did you notice the possessions that Cal let DJ play PG didn’t end very well for us? He is a SG and at this point in his career not a great creator. He shouldn’t get almost any possessions as the primary initiator of the offense. That should be Dilly and Reed and yet Cal keeps trying to force it.

I’m not talking about today, I’m talking about a macro-view of the season.

It’s like some of y’all don’t even watch the game. It’s easy to see why Reeves sat the final minutes. Wagner, Dillingham, Sheppard and Edward’s were out of their minds on offense and defense

Not complaining, just perplexing. He scored 22 points and is our All-American. Would be like UNC sitting R.J. Davis or UConn sitting Tristan Newton the last 5 minutes of a game. I’ll give Cal credit for today, he saw something and it worked. I just hope he doesn’t make a habit of it. He’s our best scorer and other than Sheppard, 1 of 2 players on this team you can trust game to game.

Another one who didn’t watch the game. Wagner was very good on offense in the 1st half. Then he came back right and scored a quick 5 to push the lead to 10.

When the game was on the line Wagner’s on ball defense up top was superior. Him putting pressure on the ball allowed Dillingham and Edwards to play the passing lanes, and UK gets a win.

The next game may be something different. But for this game, staying with that lineup was absolutely the right call.

That’s the problem with analytics. Some of y’all would allow it to coach the game for you instead of relying on what’s actually happening on the court.

I actually did watch every second of the game. And Cal FINALLY going small with Edwards at PF is what changed everything. DJ just happened to be in when Edwards was inserted. And Wagner was terrible on defense today but every single player on our roster was terrible on defense today. All the guards got torched not being able to contain dribble penetration which is our single biggest defensive issue.

DJ played very well today. I might understand this gripe on some other day, but not today.
