Know what would be cool? We smash them by like 30 to the point where we can give Thiero, Z, and DJ their flowers towards the end of the game. Let a big Z chant break out at some point maybe. Those kids did work hard for us. It wouldn’t kill us to show them some support.

For everyone thinking of booing …. Cal gave us 15 years ( probably 5 too many as he acknowledged) .
Many good things happened because of him in the basketball program and in the Commonwealth. . Some things happened outside of his power:
- If Randle would not get injured he would have brought 9 in 2014.
-if Poytress not injured he would have platooned and smoke Wisky and Duke. If refs would have not swallow the whistle he would have still get a title in 2015 and be 40-0 and be considered the greatest coach in modern times.
- if refs would have not given the game to Unc , we would won another title in 2017.
So, when you will boo Cal you will also boo Wall, Bledsoe, Cousin, AD, Randle, the Twins, Poytress, KAT, Ulis, Bam, Fox, Monk, Murray, Oscar, Rob, Dilly, Reed and many others….
Let’s be real , Cal and his boys will always be part of Kentucky legacy and have a special place in our heart with good and bad. You either have reached this conclusion or you will get there in time , just like we did with Tubby and Pitino. Any Coach that brought glory to program deserves our respect.
Do you think Rupp didn’t bring shame next to Glory to the Program? We all think of him as our basketball Grandfather!
Cal is one of nephews that continued Rupp ‘s conquest for Glory, just like Hall, Pitino, Tubby and hopefully Pope.

That’s kinda dramatic… You’re not boing all those former players, you’re (not you specifically) booing cal for the proverbial turd brisket that slow smoked for the last 5 years, and for being the rivals’ coach. He’s a big boy and can handle it. In all likelihood he will still want to be honored in a few years or whenever he hangs it up, and then he can come back.
Do you also appreciate Cal taking our entire team to Arkansas??
Cal GUTTED our program on the way out the door. Yeah. Cheer him for that.
If I was going I wouldn't boo. I'd probably just not do anything honestly. He's just the opposing coach.
He did some great things here his first 11 seasons. He set himself up by 4 final fours n 5 seasons. He would have been better losing to unc in 2011 n elite 8 and Michigan n 2014 and then 2012 and 2015 happen and then making final fours n 2017 and 2019. Spreading them out makes it look stronger.
And of course the 2nd title. He knows and we know he should have had it. That feeling inside is way worse than any booing but that's just my opinion.

In hindsight, I don’t really care that some players followed their coach. I know kids sign to play for a coach and not a school in 2025.
I was pretty upset at the time, but am not really a grudge holder, especially when it looks like we got the better end of the deal.
I would take our roster over his any day. I might’ve been OK with Thiero and/or Z returning, but Wagner is what he is.
I’m just glad he’s gone and we seem to have come out better on the other side, but I don’t hate the guy like some do.

He is dead to me. Has been for several years.
But leaving a team with zero players on the roster is beyond a disgrace. Shameful on his part.
My guess is the point shaving scandal in the 50s happened on his watch, one Final Four from 1959-1972 and the game passing him by at the end of his career, or being forced by the university to retire and being bitter about it until his death a few years later.
I am not trying to say anything bad about Rupp because he built the program, but there were a few less than rosy moments in his tenure just like with all the coaches we’ve had except Pitino because he wasn’t here very long and did nothing but win and left almost on top.
It’s a free country. If you wanna book you can boo.
But let’s keep in perspective that Cal replaced Billy Gillespie…win a championship…multiple final 4s…and he was right. It is a 10 year job for an older coach. He just stayed a little too long.

Some people have said Pope didn't want any of Cals players and wanted to start fresh. In this transfer era not much you can do about it but Pope has done masterful so far.
Since he is passed, I will not take Ill about certain events , well documented that took place during his tenure , since some of them have been already mentioned above. He is my favorite coach of all times, and my avatar picture and abbreviations represent his favorite captain, number 15 hanging from the rafters, in my opinion Kentucky’ s greatest player , captain and center: Alex John Groza.
I wouldn’t boo Cal but I also wouldn’t cheer for him either, like most have already said. It’s way too early for that right now. His time will come like Tubby and Pitino. Starting Saturday night, he will be our opponent until the day he retires.
